RE: Travel trailer braking problem

I had the same symptom on a previous camper which developed with no other changes to the system. For example no other work had been done to tow vehicle or camper prior to problem. The single break wire going from the 7-pin plug back to the wheel area had developed corrosion at the tie-in points. There is where I found my problem. The press on connectors which tie and split the power to each of the four wheel magnets several had become corroded from road salts. After replacing with new connectors and wrapping with electrical tape to seal the connections. No more grabbing wheels. Bonefish

RE: South Padre Texas KOA?

We stayed at it before it changed to the KOA in 2006. I was not pleased with the site being so close together. Our awning was within inches of the other campers slideout. Then it was all white rock that reflected the sun. DH and I would have rather stayed in the county park. It might not look the best but a least it had sand & some grass and walking distance to the beach. Our non-camping friend told us not to stay at the county park, never listen to a someone who does not camp. Maybe some other camper will have better reviews. Sharon

RE: Leaving food in stored RV

It would take me days to empty our camper out & have no room to store it here at the house. Food is kept in air tight containers, bedding, bath & clothing is never removed. Every 3 months I clean out what is not used in all items. Before storing I vacuum the carpet & cracks around cabinets and shelves of crumbs. With us using it all seasons I watch for signs of droppings. The only thing I do is turn off the fridge when not in use. I keep a watch on dates of products in the camper too. Sharon

RE: leaky slide-out in 2012 Kingsport

I had a different situation but I do know that water can migrate a long distance from where it is getting in and to where it appears. If it is in the interior of a wall or running alond a capping board it can be difficult to see. It could be getting in at the main slide seal area and running along the interior top of the wall and then down and out at the corner. You really need to work to find it before it starts to deteriorate the wood. I would be really on the dealers case about getting it fixed. Bonefish

RE: StarCraft quality?

We still have our 1975 StarCraft popup. Throw a tank of propane on her, a new battery, rinse off the dust and she would be ready to roll. All the canvas is is still in great shape and water tight. She is now considered a vintage camper. :B Bonefish

RE: Does your furry friend sleep in your bed?

Of course they sleep with us. They are small dogs. Sharon

RE: How do you use your trailer?

We use ours just like a cabin - only on wheels. It is home for the dogs. I like waking up to the smell of coffee just like at home. DH and I enjoy setting outside watching others having fun camping & talking to who walks by. Like visiting the state parks & COE's. Sleeping in my own bed, having a shower and cooking my own meals inside & out. Our TT has paid for itself many times over. The weather does not stop us from camping either. It also gives our DS's & family a place to come visit us on the road. One DS lives near a state park & COE, then they can go home after the day with us. Sharon

RE: Raise trailer above flood level

Getting the camper high enough is the easy part. It is having the piles deep and anchored well enough that they don't get wash out in a flood. There will be a lot of debris floating down the river in a flood that when trapped against the supports will exert a tremendous amount of force. Bonefish

RE: TT Tires! I am so confused

With three blowouts with camper damage and replacing tires with the start of core separation(bulges)all were ST tires from three different manufacturers. The first blowout was the tires the camper came with and were LR-C. The remainder of problems were on LR-E tires in an attempt to not have problems but even the heavier, higher belt count ST tires failed. Blow a tire on the first camping trip of the Summer and you were out of commission for over a month for repairs. I switched to LT 16" XPS Rib tires and have not had a single tire failure. I would never go back to ST tires. I will probably switch to these when they hit the market from Michelin. :) http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh144/Bonefish_photos/NewTires2.jpg http://i255.photobucket.com/albums/hh144/Bonefish_photos/NewTires3.jpg Bonefish

RE: Digital TV

A digital TV does not mean it will pickup off air digital channels. IF it only has a NTSC TUNER you will not get any digital stations without another piece of equipment (a analog to digital converter box). ATSC is the DIGITAL off air TUNER standard. You want BOTH built into the set! Bonefish

RE: Digital TV

Look at the specs on the TV. Be sure tuner handles NTSC(analog), digital ATSC, 8-VSB, Clear-QAM which will cover all over air transmissions in UHF and VHF, and CATV for cable. And your old bat wing antenna will receive digital. BonefishIf I am reading your post correctly, Clear-QAM will cover all OTA signals and CATV or do I need to see if the specs say that it will handle NTSC(analog), digital ATSC, 8-VSB and Clear-QAM? Paul In the states with an antenna you WILL NEED a tuner capable to scan for NTSC and ATSC channels and CATV for cable. The others I was told help to cover all the bases. I know down here when close to the border we get Mexican channels over air. No way to tell what format they are coming in on. Be careful there are some sets still out there that only get NTSC floating around. I know I got stuck on my first flat screen, good price but no returns. It works fine for cable or satelite feed but no good for over air. Bonefish

RE: Travel trailers

On the new F150 with TP they come with a brake controller built in. My tow capacity is 11100 and trailers max are about 8600 so should be fine. Is it me or does one company make all these trailer and just rebrand them. Heartland northtrail 25RSDS is a carbon copy of a dutchman kodiac 240KSSL. You have a box with limited places you can arrange areas and keep it balanced over the wheels. They all have the basic required features, stove, refrigerator, holding tanks, etc. It limits the layout. I am a "Tim the Toolman" type! Ahrr! Ahrr! And tend to over design and over powering things. Just watch your truck cargo capacity. With the camper attached you will be down to around 800# remaining on the truck and keep the gear in the camper distributed you should be ok. Bonefish

RE: Travel trailers

What is the towing vehicle? No one can tell you what to expect with out more information. The North Trail is a 8,600# GVWR camper with a 744# Hitch Weight plus family, etc. Bonefish

RE: How Apple is sabotaging an open standard for digital books

Good reason to continue to read paper books. I can loan my books to someone else to read. I can trade my book to someone. The license never expires. I still have books I received from my father which are over 75 years old and they still work. :B

RE: What to do with water in the floor insulation ?

Most trailer showers have a molded shower pan which has space between it and the main flooring. And then space between the main flooring and the insulated under penning you see. Several places to hold moisture. If you can feel the floor of the shower flex when you step into or move around in it this is what is causing the drain pipe to break and often the floor of the shower to crack. You need to brace the area up to stop the flexing and cracking the pipes. And dry the area out by removing all access pannels. Bonefish

RE: Does anyone have any snow yet?

We are getting in the 80's here in Midland today. Our snow comes one day gone the next as it did on 1/9/12 it melts the next day. I am sure we will most likely have several more cold fronts come this way before spring. Back in April of 07 we had 3 inches at Hords Creek for Easter. Sharon

RE: Should single axle trailers be avoided when possible?

The bright side for some is a single axle you will know when a tire has a flat and not have to wait till someone flags you down.:B Bonefish

RE: POLL: WOULD YOU BUY THE SAME TRUCK AGAIN

Yes, if they would come back with the PSD 7.3, drive a 2000 CC F250. Out here in west Texas I know a lot of individuals who drive all flavors of trucks. It has been MY OBSERVATION that the ones that I know who really know how to take good care of their trucks seem to have fewer issues with the truck they drive. There probably are lemons in every line but I have not been around any. Recently I have been behind several newer trucks that smelled like they were blowing more fuel than they were burning. A lot is driving habbits. If you jump in, start up and tear off down the street is not good on any engine or vehicle. My two cents. Bonefish
