RE: Day Night Shades

It takes more effort to shop for replacement blinds or ship them off for repair as compared to re-stringing IMHO. We had one break on our last trip out. When we got to the campground, we re-strung the shade in about 20 minutes. We use a long sewing needle to guide the string and it works real well.

RE: BAd experience with Camping World I-26

106B is the correct exit according to Google Maps. I think knowing the street names to get there may have been your problem. Parking can be difficult at some locations and I have wondered why some store managers are oblivious to this unless they have just too much inventory and no room!

RE: Ordering a New Motorhome, What To Do With The Trade-in

Sell your current motor home on consignment with the dealer you are buying from. Make the new unit order contingent on successful sale of existing unit at X amount of dollars. If the existing unit doesn't sell, the dealer absorbs the new one into his inventory. That will help motivate him to sell your used one. I would also include an option to convert the consignment sale to a trade in to save sales tax.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

I'm glad they are standing behind their work. Along the lines of what Gjac is saying, you know your unit and it is a roll of the dice buying another used unit unless you know the owner and care it has received.
I have a 1991 gas unit I've owned from new. I know its history and care and would not hesitate taking a 6000 mile trip tomorrow. I can't say that about a used unit more than a few years old I don't know the history of.

Once it is repaired you know your equipment and its history. If you sell it, unless you buy new you are once again dealing with the unknown. JMHO

RE: Looking for info about Red Bay, AL repair facilities

My intention is not to bash Tiffin, but I am amazed at how many people need to take their
coaches back to the factory for repairs. Does Tiffin not trust their dealer service or do they have so many warranty issues that they do it this way to keep their costs in line.
People feel comfortable with factory service believing their units will be repaired correctly to factory standards the first time. There should be no wait on parts as they are in stock. To be honest, I would only feel comfortable having a major repair such as the roof radius cracking being corrected at the factory where someone has done it several times.

I would check to see if they over tightened the screws causing the plastic lens or housing to crack.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

I guess you are going to have to figure out what the coach is worth to you and how much longer you plan to use it. Forget about guides, what would it cost you to replace what you have in the same or better condition? Answer that question and you will have an easier time deciding how much more money to put in it.
Sorry to hear about the second breakdown and best of luck to you.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

Whatever happened to getting 500,000 miles on these engines? It is/was barely broke in at 160,000 miles!!
You can get a lot of miles out of a diesel. It just takes some MONEY to do it. The alternative is to drop down in size to something which a gas engine can handle. So for the majority, diesel and the cost to maintain/repair is something they need to get use to or trade in frequently. Either way, it is an expensive ride!

RE: Question about brakes on a John Deere chassis

You don't have to cut holes in the floor. Your brake reservoir should be frame mounted behind front driver's tire.

RE: tires

Well I think you are over rating Michelins. I have had them on my coach the XRV and when they started to get cracks on the side walls michelin would not stand by them. They made all kinds of excuses to get out of pro rating them. And I think that is the biggest complaint about Michelins.
Now Toyo's after four and a half years started getting the small cracks also, so I went to a Toyo dealer and they pro rated the tires. Instead of paying $3400. I paid $1600. for six tires balanced with Equal powder bags. Now these are 22.5 265X75 tires.
Literally, thousands of coaches have run Michelins. I am guessing very few run Hankooks and in this little thread two people are complaining about poor ride.
I am on my third set of Michelins without any problems and a great ride. First set I aged out at 10 years and second set at 12 years. No cracks inside or out. I am satisfied with their product but do agree their customer service is in the dark ages and needs to improve.
