RE: Camp Gulf

Gulf camping is great. All Florida state parks are very nice. I would suggest Topsail or St. Andrews when traveling with teenagers due to proximity of activities outside the parks.

RE: MH brake pad replacement

I also question the need for brake pads. They should last about 100,000 miles.

RE: Need help estes park or colorado springs with two kids

Make sure to include Dinosaur National Monument during your trip. Kids should love it.

RE: Water Heater Only "Warms" Water

What holds that new thermostat in place?
The spring must hold it in place. I agree I wouldn't be too thrilled with that install.

RE: Dash fans Are they still used?

They serve dual purpose for me. Clear the windshield and a place to hang the two Alabama championship hats. As mentioned above, a little TLC and the existng fans should work fine.

RE: Carry fuel?

No. 70 gallons of gas and 100lbs of propane is enough for me.

RE: How to seat 3 adults, 2 kids in a MH safely?

My unit has a barrel chair. The seat belts are bolted underneath the chair to the floor.

RE: Verizon Home Connect....First Impression

FAX??? What is that???? My how things have changed.
I have a very elderly relative who is hard of hearing. Only way to communicate is fax. I have thought about getting an I-Pad for the relative but it might be too much technology. The fax is the only reason I have a land line.

RE: Buying New Versus Old?

I have tried to buy used motorhomes and boats a few times. It has never worked out and I end up buying new to get what I want in the condition I want. My current motorhome was purchased new in 1991 so depreciation has been about $2000/year.
For a first timer, used is a good way to camp for a season to get the feel for what you really want in a motorhome without taking a big hit in depreciation if your first choice is off. I have never been willing/able to follow my own advice.

RE: Campgrounds near Chicago

Indiana Dunes or Illinois Beach State Park are the ones to stay at. If later in the spring, Illinois Beach State Park is not far from Great America in Gurnee which would be a hit with teens.

RE: Algondonas Dental Work...?

I find this a little amusing. We all want United States manufactured tires on our RVs, but Mexican dental work on our teeth is OK.

Let your insurance company handle the claim. That is part of the service you pay for.

RE: generator oil drain plug wrench

Are you thinking of the cup for removing a recessed oil filter? If so, any auto parts sell them. Also, watch where you buy filters. Some places (NAPA) sell smooth sided filters which render the cup useless.

RE: 2012 Newmar KingAire vs. 2012 Azimut 40

Lug Nut brought up some good points. When diesel was just under $2.00/gal, it used to cost me $700 to travel 140 nautical miles and rent a slip for two days. After boating season, I would jump in the motorhome and camp about 90 miles from home and total cost would be about $70.
Also, there are many times a boat cannot be used due to weather. Mainly the wind kicks up the water and it is just too rough to have any fun. If you decide to get a boat, jump up in size to 48-50 feet and you will be much happier with handling at dock and on the water. IMHO weight is a good thing especially with a flybridge boat since they are more subject to wind. A boat must weigh approximately 1000lbs/foot for good handling and sea keeping abilities.
