RE: Are You Glad to be Home Again

Got home from Florida, mowed the grass, and went on a cruise. Life is GREAT! And, the tomatoes off my vines in Florida have ripened, and I'll have good tomatoes for a while.

RE: equate Flushable Wipes?

Has anyone done the "shake test" on the wipes? My DD also had the septic pumping issue, and they con't sound like they are something safe to flush down an RV toilet.

RE: passengers riding in the 5th wheel on a reg basis ?

Look=up some of the tire threads, and make-up your own mind. Also, while the driver hsd dome control over the back and forth and side to side motion of the trailer, you have no control of the up and down motions, caused by bumps in the roads, which can be quite magified in the trailer.

RE: driving in and around Atlanta

Chock full O'Nuts got it right with advice on going into Atlanta from Carterssville. If you're planning on staying at one of the COE parks on Lake Allatoona, make sure it will be open for your spring break. The Corp closed may of the parks for budgetary reasons this winter.

RE: Nashville to Florida

Lake Tobosofskee is on I-475, and is out of your way if you are going to Savannah, down I-16. I think I'd stay at High Falls State Park near Jackson Georgia. It's fairly convenient to the interstate, 20 - 30 miles north of Macon, and an easy days drive to Savannah. In Savannah, we like the park on Tybee Island. It has a pool for the grand children and is only two blocks from the beach, and close to good shopping and eating and bicycle trails. A lot of people recommend Skidawy Island State Park, but we prefer Tybee.

RE: Suggestion for 1st time trip in West Palm Beach Fl

Jonathan Dickenson is a state park and is a more wilderness type of camping in a large park, with fishing and bike riding trails. It's been a long time since I've camper there but, my choice would be Jonathan Dickenson State Park.

RE: Destination - Savannah - tips?

My personal opinion is that, if you like bike riding, Tybee Island is a good option. There is a bike trail right through the middle of the island, and a fairly long bike trail along the causway. As for eating, I'd recommend AJ's Dockside on the island, or The Oyster House on Wilmington Island, just accros the causeway from Tybee.

RE: Waynesville, NC Resturaunt?

Maggie's Galley is a very good seafood restaurant, but very quaint (cute, neat, cheap). The Old Stone Inn is a very good up-scale restaurant that seemed pretty reasonably priced, to me. I've eaten at both and really enjoyed both of them.

RE: Blue Ridge Parkway - Best portion?

I think your decision to wait till summer is a good one. I've driven parts of the BRP in winter, and at times had ice and fallen rock issues. In my opinion, it's all a beautiful drive, with the highest elevations on the southern half. If you do plan to do it in the summer, take your time and stop and see some of the sights, and hike some of the many trails. There is a lot to see and do on the Skyline Drive and BRP, but, easy to miss if you drive right through. Mabry Mill is a must, and stop and see Chateau Morrisette Winery at MM 171. Take your dog, it's dog friendly. Go to Mt Michell and Clingman's Dome. You won't be disappointed. Also check Mile High Campground near Maggie Valley. It's not fancy, but it is a mile up. If you do go there, don't feed the bears.

RE: Tethering IPhone 4S

I tether my iphone4 wirelessly to my laptop. If you've got a good signal, it works well. I have to reset my Personal Hotspot each time I disconnect and want to reconnect, to make the hotspot discoverable. I had an AT&T aircard and felt the tethering to the iphone would be a better route. I'm not sure it was really cheaper though. Over New Year's AT&T had a server problem and nothing worked worth a flip.
Basically all I do is open the connect to a network window, cycle or turn on your Personal Hotspot, and refresh the connect window, and select iphone.
You can also plug your iphone into your usb port, but I couldn't get it to find the iphone the last time I tried it.

RE: How do you know if you need more torque?

I knew I needed more torque when, trying to back my 5'er up my driveway, even at full throttle, my truck would barely move it. From what I've learned, horsepower will get you up the mountain, torque will get you up your driveway. Now, my 8.1 will burn the tires backing an even larger 5'er up the same driveway, if I give it too much gas.

RE: US27

You could stay on I-75 and catch US 98 to US 27 at Lake Wales. Lakeland is a bit of a pain but the rest is pretty clear sailing. I usually take the Turnpike to US 27 to avoid all that mess south of Ocala. Fla 44 through Leesburg is an alternative, but I thought it was a real pain too. Hopefully, the construction through Clermont is just about done. When I came through there in November, all the lanes were open, and I made it right through with no issues. They were just mainly working on the turn lanes. Right now, you have lots of lights and lots of retirees, which happily I'm one of em'.

Heading back down on the 30th. I hope the mosquitoes have eased-up. When we were down there in October, they were still pretty bad.

RE: Florida's Attitude Towards Snowbirds

I winter in the Sebring/Avon Park area and I've been there a little before the season, and most of the locals I've met couldn't wait for the snowbirds to come down. It's like being in a port town when the cruise ships come-in...everything comes to life. Some of the restaurants and stores even close out of season. But, I can tell you, the traffic does a lot heavier, in-season. When pulling my 5'er, I hate to try to pull through that area during the winter season.
By the way, I call myself a winter resident.
