RE: Crossing into Progresso, Mexico with Mobility Scooters

BillB800si So there are no wooden sidewalks as you first stated! And There are no military with machine guns as you stated! What else should we believe that you have written?Don
---------------------------
Listen up Don. We stayed in Corpus Christi Texas the winter of 2009. Saw everything there was to see on the gulf coast. Spent a day in Progresso, Mexico because our friends said it was the safest Mexican border town to visit. Our first sight when we crossed the bridge was an army jeep with a machine gun mounted on it and sand bags piled up in different locations. Made me a little nervous. Reminded me of Jamaica. While walking down the main street there were solders walking around with Ak-47's. Little children were everywhere selling trinkets to visitors. Wondered why they weren't in school. When we were in the Cayman Islands the locals told us not to buy from the kids because their parents made them sell to vistors instead of attending school. Finally was it dirty? You bet it was!!
Now, is it any dirtier than some American cities? Of course not but we were very disappointed with all the Mexican Border towns we've been to. If you really want to see something disgusting then visit Tijuana. Raw meat hanging on hooks by the sidewalks for sale with flies all over it.Just because people are poor doesn't mean they have to live in filth.
We won't be back there's so much to see in Canada and the good old USA.....

RE: Crossing into Progresso, Mexico with Mobility Scooters

The sidewalks are not wooden? Where did that come from?
Not so sure you need the big lock either. The people of Nuevo Progreso are very good to their visitors.
-------------------
Okay. I admit there's no wooden sidewalks just dirty concrete ones. There are so many people hawking their wares that one can hardly move down the sidewalks. Another mentioned the "parking police" well we sat on a balcony drinking beer & tequila watching these civilians extort money from people attempting to park their vehicles on public parking sites. If you didn't tip them they screamed at you to move. What a sight. Also to greet visitors when you cross the border there's military types with machine guns scattered around. I will admit that Progresso is probably the safest of the Mexican border towns but that's not saying much. We've visited others and they all are dirty....

RE: Additional charge for electricity

As long as I know up front (when I call for reservations or if I just pull in) then it's my decision to stay or not. If they charge me later then I dispute it with the credit Card commpany. I've NEVER lost a dispute when using my credit cards.

RE: Real neat travel trailer.

I saw this at the Dome Road BLM, Quartzsite, AZ today. The picture does not show it, but the truck that tows it has the same type of structure on the back. I have passed by several times but I believe the owner is out gold mining or rock hunting by the looks of the equipment about the site.

L.E.D. noise-Interference

As some of you know much of the cheap Chinese import LED's give off RF Interference and interferes with radio/TV reception. A few years ago I ordered replacement trailer LED tail lights (complete lens & all)from Command Electronics. They worked great- very bright. Now I'm in the process of replacing many lights on my trailer with LED's so I contacted Command Electronics and asked them about their LED interference problems. Their reply was they addressed this situation and designed circuitry to eliminate it. just thought I would pass this along to those considering the same idea of replacements.

RE: Range exhaust fan replacement

----------------
Think about this. Stove/oven is on- heat noramlly rises- all one has to do is create a path for rising heat to go to. Doesn't take a big fan to do this. I'm going to order one of these today. If it works out I may order another for the refrigerator.
Happy trails,
---------------------
Went ahead and ordered the variable fan for the stove vent. Did some more research for a frig fan and came across this from Radio Shack.Frig Fan Scroll down the page to the 12VDC Micro Fan Model: 273-240. 1.5 inch square by .4 inch thick. 6500 RPM, 1.5 watts, 7.7 CFM, and brushless. Went down & bought and tested it on the bench. This little baby is super quiet and for the size really moves the air. Perfect for the refrigerator.
Now to mount it in the frig...

RE: Range exhaust fan replacement

I find it hard to believe that a small case fan would move as much air as the stock fan and motor would, but now you've got me curious about it...Anybody got some pics of the stock setup and/or the fan specs?

Sidewalks are wooden- NARROW- and full of merchandise, people and kids (who should be in school). Be very carefull maneuvering through all of that and have a big lock to safeguard your equipment.

RE: Range exhaust fan replacement

I have those type of fans in my computer case and your right, they are quiet and move a lot of air. If you decide to install one above your RV stove, I for one would sure like to know how you did it, so please post.
Here's some photo's with directions on how this guy did it. Fan installation

Range exhaust fan replacement

I think everyone knows how LOUD our range exhaust fans are. I was researching using a computer fan and ran across this article with photos (http://ourelkhorn.itgo.com/muffin.htm ) Fan Article. But what really interested me was the last paragraph of the article mentioning a variable speed computer fan for $19.99 found here
(http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2423/fan-109/SilverStone_SST-%20FM121_120mm_Case_Fan.html?tl=g36c435s1104&id=L43vAoVk ).Actual fan
A quiet variable exhaust fan is just what I think I need. My question is has anyone done this before? This fan only draws 0.4 amps and delivers 110 CFM air movement. Speeds are from 800 to 2400 RPM. Includes 9 blades with dual ball bearings.
Any comments appreciated.

RE: Never can have too many shelves

Anything lower than my waist will be drawers in the future. Newer trailers are providing drawers for pots & pans. Good idea to me.
Phew, another job for spring modernization....

RE: Jayco Schematics & prints

Bill,
I had the schematics but not the details on walls. Just put the request in via the website. They were quick last time and this time expect nothing less. Our walls may be the same but I know their records are very good. Another example of what a quality manufacturer is and how they continue to service the units they build.
------------------
Folks, its very important to include the VIN number of your trailer. I noticed on the pdf prints I received that there are 11 pages covering the various 12 VDC wiring and 8 pages covering the 120 VAC wiring. Each page covers a different layout. Sometimes the change the routing or they add/delete something...So do include the VIN #.

Jayco Schematics & prints

Contacted Jayco last week and asked them for the electrical diagrams and wall stud information on our 2007 Eagle 322FKS. Were they ever nice & prompt. Sent me the spec's on the whole 2007 Eagle trailer line in pdf format. Chose what I wanted and printed it all out. Now I have a sheet on ther 12 VDC layout throughout the trailer and the 120 VAC layout. Also prints of both walls showing the wall construction.
Another great job Jayco. Keep it up.

Finding wall studs in an aluminum frame

Was wondering if anyone has a sure fire way of finding those aluminum wall studs. If I anchor something to the wall I want to hit those studs for extra support.
Many thanks,

RE: TT v fifth wheel

Just my opinion but I will never tow a TT again. Just bought our 2nd 5er. We live in Texas where on a breezy day its 20-25 mph winds. Was always a fight with the TT even towing it with a 2500. And yes it was set up correctly and we experimented with weights and sway controls, but no I did not buy a Hensley hitch. Now we hook and run don't matter what the weather or wind.\----------------
You better matter about the wind. Here's a video showing a 53 foot tractor trailer flipping over due to wind. And trucks have a bigger hitch hook up than 5th wheelers.
Leave it to a Texan!!!! :)

RE: electric trailer stablizers

My Jayco rep says these stabalizer jack are the same ones used on the designers series 5ers.Those are significantly heavier than the 322 FKS. I think I'll go with them
-------------------
Do you know who the mfgr of those stabilizers are??
Tell us how you like them after you get the trailer.
Think you'll miss that big front window??
Have fun- stay warm.

RE: electric trailer stablizers

I was just looking over Ultra-Fab's electric twin motor stabilizers.
Ultra-Fab
They come with two motors per unit and have a 3 year warranty. Also they have some side channel permanently mounted on them to prevent forward/reverse sway??
Also have a remote option available.
I'll have to look further into this.
Happy trails.
