RE: Tire wear question.

first step would be to jack up the tire and check for play in the bearings. If excessive, replace bearings. If good, have alignment shop check for a bent spindle or axle.

RE: PDI Expectations for Fifth Wheel

I'm a bit taken aback by the level of distrust expressed for the dealer and manufacurer by these posts. I have bought several rvs from several different dealers over the years and have yet to have a problem. Yes, I've found items that needed repair after taking the vehicle home and have always been accomodated by the dealer at a later date. This has always included working a service date at my convenience where I could either leave the vehicle or wait while the repairs were done.
Our current trailer was delivered with damage to the arm of one of the recliners and the new part had not arrived at delivery date. Since we had reservations begining 2 days later we went home and packed, and told the dealer we would call him after our trip. A week later, we're sitting in our site about 90 miles north of the dealer when he pulled up with the new chair arm, installed it, and left. Do I value this dealer, you betchum red rider! And his pdis are very good to boot.

passing of Richard Clemens

For those of you in New England and others, Richard was the Mass. Trooper that Norman Rockwell used in his painting of "The Runaway" for the Saturday Evening Post cover. I was fortunate enough to have met him and found that he was really the considerate kind of guy that the painting made him out to be. RIP, sir.

RE: Equal Wheel Balancing System?

Can't help with the fifth but when we had a motor home, used Equal with the new tires. Was very happy with the results. This was on 22.5 tires.

RE: FL trip

In Delaware, use 896/301 to avoid the BAltimore/DC area. Stay on it till Bowling Green, VA then back to 95. If you hit Richmond at rush hour, use the bypass, otherwise straight through. Good advise about 301 through Florida so use that too.
We currently use South Fourty, Peterssburg, VA and Lake Harmony in Townsend GA for overnights. Have also used New Green Acres in Walterboro SC and RVacation in NC as stops. Might have to check on South Fourty as last we stopped, they were under bank management.

RE: Is it compatible?

Per the Reese web site (Reeseprod.com) that is a low profile hitch designed for medium duty/heavy duty trucks, likely in conjunction with a hauler bed on the truck. I don't believe that it would have enough vertical adjustment to provide clearance for a pickup bed. It also does not mount to standard rails.
If his truck is a 4500/5500 cab and chassis with a hauler bed, then yes thats a good hitch.

RE: Highway Restrictions - NH to SC

The Fort McHenry tunnell in Baltimore prohibits propane (hazardous material) so you use 695 either east or west around it. Can be a real pain with traffic. To avoid both Baltimore and DC, just past Wilmington De., exit onto 896 south. This will turn inot 301. Stay on 301 til Bowling Green Va and then drop back to 95.

RE: Towing with tonneau

Currently have a roll up that sits nice and tight to the cab. Works good.
Years ago, I had a cover that had a center panel that fit around the hitch. Also had a weather seal that closed the bed up either towing or not. That was great as everything in the truck was out of sight and dry. As far as I know, company is no longer in business as I tried to fnd them.

RE: Towing lights for 5th wheel problem

Somewhere around the pin box, You'll likely find a junction box where the cord comes in from the truck. You will likely find your problem in that box. Ytace the cord up and find the box.

RE: making the RIDE a little smoother

Used to run 40 in the rear of my 3/4 empty. Good ride and at the pressure, the tire tread was flat on the road. Upped that to 75 with the fifth on. Haven't got the dually right yet.

RE: Let's play "where is the diesel pump?" game

Seems the most common I have found is the diesel pumps on the end island. Flyin J put theirs on the middle except for the rv lanes all by themselves. Much easier when towing.

RE: Northeastern USA

If you're in Ny in August, the horse races at Saratoga Springs, Saratoga Battlefield park in Schuylerville or 32 mile long Lake George with some nice boat tours. Add Lake Placid up in the Adirondacks, home of 2 winter Olympic games and some great scenery.

RE: Thinking of making the switch from TT to 5er

You may never need to use it and then again you might need it to back in to a site so I would suggest a sliding hitch. It's very cheap insurance. I bought my Reese 16k off ebay and the no drill brackets from a dealer, I was in less than $500. The install is not difficult so I did it myself.
You'll find that the fifth is much more stable towing than your trailer.

RE: Buffalo, NY to Randolph Center, VT

That route is not bad. It is 2 lane with a long stretch of 29 posted at 45mph. Traffic does flow quite smoothly all the way. However, when you enter the city of Saratoga Springs, after you pass the post office, turn left at the traffic light (West Ave), turn right at the next light ( T intersection) go past the hospital and bear left at the next traffic light. At the second light, you'll see the 4 lane arterial across the intersection, take that out to the 87 ramp. This route will avoid the downtown area.
If you're not in a rush and want a nice ride through the Adirondacks, at Utica, tale 12 north to Rt 8 and Rt 8 across to Chestertown to get to 87. Quite a bit of windy mountain road but pretty.
