I'm wondering if anyone here has ever dealt with Hitch RV in NJ? I may be dealing with them and wondered what others think.
Thanks

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

You drive any diesel with only 5500 lbs and you should see mileage in the 13-14 range. Maybe higher.
Not mine.
How funny! My dad and I just got back from a dirt bike trip to CO from NC. With his 2010 F250 with the 6.4 Powerstroke across Kansas, Superchips on mpg tune, 60mph, hand calculated 15.6 mpg was the best we could get. We had two 250lb KTM dirt bikes in the bed and that was it. My 07 Duramax gets 21-22mpg with Superchips Tuner set on Performance Tow. Boy did those DPF's screw things up.:(
My 11 F350 6.7 regularly gets 23 MPG empty. The 6.4 has a reputation for being thirsty.

RE: 5'er with a shortbed pickup

bigziff....do you use a sliding hitch? nice setup by the way!
I use the same RBW Lil' Rocker hitch today in my 11 F350 that is in that photo. I did have the RBW slider base in the F150, but never had to use it. I towed with that F150 for 2 several years and even towed my buddies 30' Springdale a few times. Not something I'd want to tow across country, but worked well for trips under 4 hours. I did have Diablo tuner on the F150 which mainly helped with the tranny.
Bottom line is....you'll get a lot of people telling you it can't be done...it's dangerous, etc. 99% of these people have never done it and are only parroting what they've read or been told. There are many on here that have actual experience doing this and can give you accurate information.
Best wishes!

RE: Looking for new fiver bunkhouse

I was looking very hard at the 293SAB. Almost bought it. But then I came across the Sundance 3100RB and 3300CK. Ended up with the 3300CK. I lost the half bath but gained the outside kitchen.
I looked at the 3100RB. Things we didn't like were:
1300 pounds heavier than the 293SAB
Second entry door in the rear bath
TV in the front of the camper. Much easier to see it on the rear wall
16" oven is too small
No oversize bunks and no third bunk
Graphic on the nose is horrible IMO
My wife isn't wild about the Interior colors
Some dealers list this unit's MSRP as high as $65K while others somewhere in the 40s. Either way I'm finding I can buy a 293SAB for $8K less on average.
I do like the larger outside storage on the Sundance!
Thanks!

RE: Looking for new fiver bunkhouse

Just sold our 2010 Cougar 293SAB and am looking for something similar. We loved the rear bunkhouse with half bath and the 2012 293SAB is high on our list for the new rig, but we wonder what else is out there with a similar floor plan that doesn't weigh 12,000 pounds?
Any thoughts?
thanks
Sounds like your looking at the same trailer except a 2012 campared to 2010. What's wrong with the 2010 model? Just curious.
I may end up with the 2012 as the floor plan is very near perfect for us. There was nothing wrong with the 2010. We liked it very much!

RE: Maiden Voyage

Docking lights are on due to the remote being used to turn them on. Use the remote to turn them off and you'll be good to go. We're 18 months into our 2010 293SAB and so far it's been OK, but not nearly as good as the 07 Springdale we had before it (also bought brand new) Lots of little issues with trim, latches, chrome plating, roof leaks, decals, etc. all happened just out of warranty (imagine that) Great design poorly executed.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

does anyone have any new information on 2011 mileage Diesel v gas since Diesel has gone crazy
I get 23-24 running 62-65 empty with my 8300 pound 11 F350 CC. Towing our fiver (around 11,000 pounds) I get anywhere from 11 to 14 at the same speeds.

RE: Gas Powered TVs & 5th Wheels - No Diesels

I towed with a 2005 F250 crew cab 4x4 V10 for 4 years. Last unit I towed with it was the 2010 Cougar 293SAB (pic is in my sig) It would tow that fiver just fine and did even better once I added a 5 Star tuner. I never scaled the fiver, but others have and it probably weighs around 11,000 ready to camp. Long hills on country roads would get the better of the V10, but you'd never run out of power as long as you didn't mind the engine revving. On the highway at 62-65 I'd average 6-8 mpg depending on the wind, terrain, etc.
I made the decision to try a 2011 F350 6.7 this year and while it cost a boatload of money, the towing experience is vastly different. My last 3 tows with the same camper have averaged 12.3 MPG.
Good luck to you!

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Paying $1.55 a gallon for diesel and getting over 20mpg.
Not anymore. diesel went way up
You do realize that post was from like 7 years ago, right? :)
Yet another reason that this thread should be culled. C'mon mods...step up here.

RE: The Big Ford Drum- for 6.7 Ford Owners/Ford Wannabee's

Hey little ricky,
I was answering to this post. Sorry I was on your private thread and I made a mistake. You being a Ford guy should know a ton about mistakes.
You do realize how small this makes you look, right?

RE: The Big Ford Drum- for 6.7 Ford Owners/Ford Wannabee's

Nice post, Rick. Clearly the new Ford is doing well and appears to have a bright future. My Ford stock (bought at around $1.60) is going to help offset the cost of my new 6.7!
For those interested in hearing stories from actual owners, you can visit ford-trucks.com, thedieselstop.com and powerstroke.com. Plenty of real life 6.7 owners on there that will answer all your questions.

RE: Diesel High Mileage Tipping Point

On the service records, i think there is a catch 22 here. I have had my 99 F250 psd since new and there is not a service record on it except the cps recall and the brake wire recall. My service records are pencil entries on the inside of a tool cbinet in my pole barn. Any anyne could dummy up the entries int he back of the book that came with the vehicle.
I am taking off for Myrtle and FL before the end of the month.
I don't know what the answer is but I bet there are X number of vehicles out there in ready to go shape like mine that don't have a service record one that is official.
No one said "official"...whatever that means to you.
I service my own vehicles and I keep records. Receipts of parts purchased stapled to a page in a notebook that outlines what I did, when I did it and at what mileage. Believe me when someone buys one of my vehicles used, they have every confidence that I did my best to maintain it. I ask crazy money for my used vehicles and have never failed to get it when selling them.
Obviously, you can do whatever works for you. Personally, I won't look at a vehicle that doesn't have at least a basic documented service history. You can tell a lot from the overall condition, but there are lots of guys out there who are very good at making a beat up vehicle appear to have been well taken care of.

RE: Diesel High Mileage Tipping Point

Regardless of miles or apparent exterior/interior condition if the owner cannot provide complete maintenance records I'd pass on any truck at any price...especially a diesel. On that same thought you should know whether the ECM has been reprogrammed as it can have significant long term effects on longevity. The comments about checking warranty history should be part of any pre-purchase consideration.
