RE: Transit Bars

Our Outlook has two slides and no bars or other slideout restraints. Nothing mentioned about them in the owners manual either.

RE: Blue Ox Aladdin v. Aventa to tow CR-V

We are using the Blue Ox Aventa LX with no problems. Cant compare to any other tow bar. Out purchase was based on the fact that our dealer only carried Blue Ox and it was on sale (good price for Canada).

RE: Quick and easy mileage calculator

Interesting calculator, the most interesting part is the fact that a Canadian website would post a calculator to sum a capacity that is no longer in place anywhere in the world. Imperial Gallon, gone the way of the dildo bird.
Thanks
Ron
Not quite true, actually Ford dealers on our area of Ontario were using it last fall when bragging about how good gas mileage was. 50+ mpg (Imperial gallon in very very small print) looks a lot better than 40mpg or the equivalent litres per 100km.

RE: tennesee and kentucky

Lots of campgrounds open from KY south. You will need the furnace or other heating for the first night or two depending on how far you drive a day. We carry bottled water and use the pink stuff for flushing the toilet, until dewinterizing. You should be able to dewinterize once you get south of Atlanta. Our personal preference is for KOAs, there a quite a few just of I-75, nicely spaced throughout KY, TN and GA.

RE: MPG

SO MANY variables, but the general consensus would seem to be that an MH gets about 6-10 mpg (8+/-), with a toad, just slightly less. An exception maybe the sprinter based Mercedes diesel (ie Winnebago Via).

RE: size of covered storage building

Consider building as large as possible. You may want a bigger RV in a few years.
If you allow 3-4 feet on each side you will be able to work on the RV, access doors and storage compartments. Even more important is the size of the door opening. A nominal 8' wide door opening would probably be too small for an 8' wide trailer (awning are not included in measurements). The door opening should be at least 10' wide by 12' preferably 14' high. I would build it 16' wide, as long as possible and 16' high. The best for the floor would be concrete, cleaner, drier. Asphalt (black top) may be cheaper, but the wheels may tend to sink in, especially in the heat

RE: Heading to Florida from Ontario

My vote is stright down I-75 and go right through Alanta. Timing is the key. Alanta is not that bad after 8:00PM and before 6:00AM.
Also if you can go through between 10:00am and noon or 1-3PM. Just don't hit prime drive times. I-77 has more grades and toll road in West Virigina. Randu

RE: Heading south from canada

Not many campgrounds open north of Kentuckey. Once you get to KY there is a good choice. Our preference is KOA and there are several right off 75 in KY, TN and GA that are open all year.
We try to leave about 6sm (Barrie area) and that will get us into KY about supper time. (weather permitting). We have also done the Walmart stop, when weather conditions got worse. A second night stop south of Atlanta, will get you to central FL area early in the afternoon.

RE: Vent Cover

We had one disintegrate before the MH was a year old. Cost of $8.00 at Walmart and 20 minutes to replace. Did not even consider a 100 mile drive to the dealer for warranty. I also installed the Max Air covers in 20degree weather for the extra protection.

RE: Typical Class C Owner?

Mid 60s, retired, sometimes travel with 1 or 2 grandsons. Grandsons have use of the cab over bunk or we use it for storage. Bought the c-class mainly because of great deal $$ and it was a good floor plan for us.

RE: Demco Dolly

How close do you live to the border? It may be cheaper to drive to the closest dealer in the U.S. and bring it back with you, declaring it at the border when re entering Canada. In Ontario, a dolly is not registered or licenced, no ownership papers other than a bill of sale.

RE: Shower head

We changed to the Oxygenetics. It saves quite a bit of water, but gives the feeling of much higher pressure. It is available at any RV supply store.

RE: Crossing the border into the US?

x2 on all the other posts, plus remove sunglasses and hats to allow the agent to clearly see you face so they can compare it to your ID. Have all occupants passports (or other documents ready.

RE: Tow Dolly Tire Wear

x2 on taking to a trailer or truck shop for alignment check.
Make sure your tire pressure is up to max side wall psi. Our old dolly wore out the first set of tires in 6000miles, as it turned out, the tow-in on the aligment was out more than 1/2 inch.

RE: Any residual value in replaced tires?

Do you have a way of transporting them home (I wouldn't want 6 dirty tires in the MH) and a place to store them until you find a buyer?

RE: Disney dining plan worth it or not

Since you are staying at FW, we would NOT get a dining plan. Take your usual food (stock up before arriving). Have at least breakfast and one other meal at your RV, it is also a time for relaxation. Carry a back pack with drinks and snacks for the kids. but for that one meal in a park, there are several cafeteria style restaurants that adults can eat for about $7-8, no reservations/time frames etc. (Pecos Bill at Magic Kingdom and one at the American Pavilion come to mind).
Enjoy your trip

RE: disney no expiration and where to stop

Our first trip was in August just after most schools including Florida schools had started. Obviously it will be hot but we found it not to be too bad because many of the rides have waiting lines that are the shade and/or inside buildings which are air conditioned. We were worried at first about the heat but in the end we did just fine with some pacing ourselves and doing the longer show type rides in the afternoon so we can cool off.
We had the same experience in Aug 09.
We buy the 10 day park hopper passes with no expiration. After day 6, the passes only go up about $3.00 a day. The no expiration is expensive but IMHO, worth it, especially if you are staying at Fort Wilderness. You do not feel rushed into using all your days, giving more time to relax at the Fort.

RE: RV storage in central Florida

Try contacting the KOA Orlando SW/Fort Summit. It is at the SW corner of I-4 and US27, about 20 minutes west of Kissimmee. They have an area where RVs are stored. I don't know about rates or time frames.

RE: Question about a Winnebago Outlook 29B

question is......is there a similar provision for filling the tank on the 29B?
No there is not, but I am trying to figure out the valves and plumbing necessary to divert the city water to the FW tank. Unfortunatly there is not much working room in the compartment under the couch slide.
