RE: New Truck Break in period

Don't know about the new ones but mine also had a break in for towing after the 500 mile break in.
No towing over 55mph for the next 500 miles.

RE: Rv ladder

My present one has a sturdy built in ladder.
My old one I had a collapsing ladder.
I much prefer the collapsing ladder to the "upright" built in one. Much easier to climb and with the built in one, I now have about 20 more places to worry about leaking.

RE: How is it leaking?

Now I'm noticing a bit of deformation, slight, like bumps and bubbles on both the inside and outside of the wall! It must be water getting into the wall? How? Where do I look? I want to get ahead of this...
Having experienced water damage, you are already behind by quite a bit.

RE: Durango 2500 sewer connection question

When I pulled off the sewer cap, I got about 4 gallons of clear, sort of soapy water come out.
When I was thinking of buying a new rv, I was going to put a valve before the sewer cap because of the above. The used Crossroads that I bought had one there. Don't know if they came that way or previous owner had it installed.

RE: Insurance question.

Truck insurance is in play when hooked to the truck, at least in Florida anyway.
For liability, not comp and collision.
I just got off the phone with Safeco, my truck insurer. They are working with Progressive to figure it out. I am still not really sure what the issue is
The issue is that neither one wants to pay.
Truck insurance will probably pay in the end.

RE: Towing Info Please

I did read to get the Camper dealer to put in writting that if I was not satisified with how it pulled I could bring it back and downsize.
They will do it for you along with a free bath.

RE: newbie backing in advice

I have found it much easier backing up once I learned to pull further ahead.
Can't explain it but takes much less turning of the wheel and less of an angle between truck and trailer.
I have more problem with my 10' utility trailer.

RE: Tires for 2007.5 Chev. 3/4 HD 6.6L Duramax/Allison

My 08 Silverado 3500 came with Bridgestone Duravis tires on it. I have over 60,000 mile and still have plenty of tread left. I will buy the same tires when the time comes that they need to be replaced.
Mine look like they will make it to 60K.

RE: No power to Directv dish

Only problem now is that the rv cable/satellite connection doesn't work for the satellite.
You have a new RV, you should not have to do any rewiring.
Check and see if you have 2 outputs near your entertainment center. The sat. signal does not usually work thru the tv outlet. Also, turn off the signal booster for the antennae. With most of today's rvs, the signal will run thru the cable line. Mine does. My old one wouldn't
If you cannot get it to work, the diagram someone posted will do the job.

I LOVE the piece of junk. It reacts instantly to the bird.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is it reacts to every bird in the sky and there's a lot of them up there, not just the one you are hunting for. I quit using it when I learned how to use the DirecTV display. It only reacts to the DirecTV birds.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Worse, it DOESN'T react to HD sats; different frequ.
I don't NEED to have it react to HD sats; once I have my strength on 101, I know how to find the others with no problem.
just having a tone for the 101 would be sufficient.
A cheap compass gives you a general direction for the bird and a quick fanning left to right or up and down will get the sat. real quick. It then just setting the tilt/skew.
Just set the tilt/skew for whatever the setting says and worry only about getting the 101, just like with the 18" round dish.
It just takes some practice. Try it at home where you can see the one that is set-up.
I can usually do this in wooded areas also if there are a few holes in the canopy. If not then I wind up with SD which I still can live with.

RE: 2008 Chevy 3500HD

I was looking through a car lot today and came across this truck. The price is 35000.00 on the window. The truck has diesel engine but I do not know the mileage, I thought I would go back later tonight after hours and take a look.I was wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this truck. thanks for your input. The truck is a 2008 chevy 3500HD DRW.
Mine in sig was $35,000 new in '08. This should not have been not too much more, seems overpriced but I have not looked at the prices of used trucks lately so really don't have a clue.
And to some, it is also the greatly feared DPF model!!

RE: Bike rack for rear bumper?

Had a bike on the bumper for about 9 years no problem. It was where the spare tire was located.
New rig has receiver and bought a rack to fit it.
One thing that I have noticed with bicycles on back is that they are strapped to the rack but when following one you can see the bicycles sway and bounce. I use bungie cords to stop all movement, ie tires are bungied to bumper. I try to stop all movement of the bicycles.
I may go to the pinbox mount someday because I might put a generator in back.

RE: Pete's Rv

We bought rig in sig in Nov. '11(used). Because it was used and 650 miles away I had plenty of questions and wanted to see many pictures before drivng there to buy it. The salesman, if he didn't have the answer, would get back to me quickly, usually in less than half an hour.
The unit was bought as is, no warranty which I had no problem with for the price we paid. There was one damaged day/night shade(broken cord which we saw before hand from the pictures that were sent). My wife talked them into sending us a new one. We have yet to see it and I have fixed the old one and really never did expect to see a new one. The salesman called last week to see how things were and is checking to see where the 2 are that they ordered.
They actually drove the trailer to Illinois(about 6 miles away) for us to take delivery, a tax thing between Indiana and NC. On the way back the service manager flagged us down and we followed him back to the shop where he replaced a tail light bulb(and gave us a spare). It had worked at PDI, maybe jostled loose. It had been sitting aroung. The service manager gave us his personal cell phone number and said to call anywhere, anytime, anyplace if we needed to talk about a problem.
I would buy from them again.
Their sales system: PDI
Tour of store to sell whatever
Sign papers.
Hand off to financial officer for warranty yap, etc.
Low key and actually was nice doing buisness with. That area of the country seems to have many dealers internet "smart" and good prices without much sales pressure and BS. I would check other dealers in the area for the model you are looking for. The only way to get a handle on prices.

RE: Got the new Transfer Flow tank installed today.

I talked with them twice about a tank for recent install. $250 just for the shipping to NC ruled them out for me. They're expensive tanks but I'm sure are worth it.
Just came back from 1500 mile trip and you're right--sure is nice.
Was a much nicer trip not doing the dirve 150 miles to rest area, drive 100 miles get fuel, drive 150 miles to rest area, etc. etc..
Was also nice being able to fill up at $3.85 at start, $3.93 at end and skipping the $4.14 in between.
There just seems to be no place that had good deals on these tanks. They all sell at about the retail price that Transfer Flow quotes in the price list.
By the way, I've got the 40gal/toolbox. Also the gauges are quite accurate.

RE: Trigonometry and fivers

The last posting by "Mont B&J" made more sense to me than any others so far.
x3. From experience.
The OP can load his truck down until the back bumper drags the ground, but the one inch clearance between the top of the tailgate to the underside of the 5th wheel will never change
It will change but not enough to matter.
And if you can raise the hitch up, it will make the trailer more uneven.
It's just hard to believe, if that 39' is a newer trailer, that there isn't more clearance.
But the easiest way, as someone else has said, is to hook up and see where you sit.
I am going thru some thing similar and the axles are "flipped" from manufacturer.

RE: Can't decide which fuel tank to buy

I ordered the 37 gallon in bed tank today. The tank's actual weight is about 125 lbs and it is a fully automated transfer system. It will be installed with the Trax II computer and transfer pump system with an in cab monitor to track the usage.
Had the 40 gal tank/tool box installed a few weeks ago.
Haven't put many miles on it since but will be nice driving 720 miles on upcoming trip without stopping for fuel.
Like what I see so far but with traxII and installation, twice as much as the RDS tank.
