RE: Colorado National Park

It's pretty, but if you have covered the Utah NP's and you are limited on time you could give it a pass. We camped in Grand Junction and visited for the day in our truck. The main park road has tunnels and is curvy but it is doable.

Surprise, AZ overnight

I am looking for a place to overnight in Surprise, AZ while visiting friends. The choices on rvparkreviews.com look dismal. I thought Happy Trails might work until I read about the 20 pound pet limit. (Our dog is 50.)Sunflower was looking good until I read that their rate in late June was $55 a night. (Seriously, are they kidding?) We will not use resort amenities, just really looking for a quiet, safe place with steady electricity. So, I am hoping there are some Surprise residents or past visitors out there with a hidden gem. Thanks!

RE: CO camping near Aspen or Marble

Go to recreation.gov, plug in all the particulars of what you are looking for - location, spot with electricity, date range, etc. You will get a list of campgrounds that fit the bill. You can then reserve a site if you want.
Have fun, Colorado is a beautiful state with tons of amazing campsites!

RE: Amarillo, TX

I hate hearing that the Oasis might go under. It has been our overnight stop between Houston and Colorado each summer for the last 5 years.
If you make it to Gallup, there is a sister park of the Oasis, USA RV Park that looks pretty good.
Have a great trip!

RE: Glacier National Park - Reservations

Agree, Waterton is a great day trip, or better yet, overnight. If you do decide to go into Canada, don't forget your passports.

RE: Bishop, Mammoth, Yoesemite Advice

We tent camped in the snow in the Sierra's with our kids when they were that age so camping in a 5th wheel seems like a piece of cake. Have fun!

RE: Leaving 5er in the south.

I too live in Houston. We have covered storage which I think is key with the sun here. Other than that when we store for a long time we clean it well (wouldn't you do that anyway?), drain the water, unhook the batteries and I throw some Bounce dryer sheets around. I read somewhere that doing that would keep unwanted critters out. Don't know if it really is the reason we have never been "invaded" but they make the RV smell nice so I do it. No mold here. On the other hand I think winterizing a rig would be a hassle and covered storage a must in your snow.
We have stored our RV in other states before, you are smart to investigate before doing so. Last summer we left it in Phoenix and then watched in awe at the news reports of the massive dust storms they had. Should have gone for enclosed instead of covered. That dust weaseled its way into everything. Live and learn.

RE: Road Side Assistance Coverage

Good Sam is wonderful and has rescued us two times. One of the times our 5th wheel hitch failed and the unit could not be towed. No problem for them, they loaded it on a flatbed truck and towed it to an RV repair place. Due to the height of the unit it could not go under many overpasses so they had to exit and reenter the freeway for miles. All covered.
Also as others have mentioned they cover your other vehicles. Our daughter who was in college at the time locked herself out of her car on Easter Sunday. No problem, Good Sam had someone there within 30 minutes to let her back in.

RE: driving to grand tetons

Don't know where you are starting from in La but from Dallas heading north west take 287 to 87 to 25 to 80 to 191. Nice highway the whole way.
Just for future reference there is no "s" in Grand Teton NP.
Have a great trip!

RE: Whch are the best campgrounds in colorado

Go to reserveamerica.net and do a search for campgrounds in Colorado with electricity at the site. You will get a list of about 60, county, federal, state, and private campgrounds. You can then further pare down the number by area, additional hook-ups or selected amenities.

RE: Glacier National Park Camping

The NPS website for Glacier has a cool tool called "campground status" where you can check the time of day a campground filled for any summer month in the last 5 or 10 years. The Many Glacier campground in the park has tons of trees and walkable to eating places and a small store.
