RE: Courtesy Car at Rv Parks?

If you are serious about fulltiming then just get the car set up to tow. It's really easy to do and trust us when we say that you will be sorry if you don't. We've been fulltiming for 6 years so I think we have some credibility. Barb

RE: Stupid Question

I've met folks who move into the campground that say they never stay anywhere more than two weeks. That seems like a superficial shallow lifestyle to me. Gee, I've meet people who sit in one place for more than 6 months, seems a very dull lifestyle to me. Barb

RE: Mesa/ Apache Jct, short term, no reservations

Give Val Vista a call - there are a Cal-Am park that you can stay in for a week under Passport America. Same with Apache Wells. And if you have C2C, you can also use them for a week. We've stayed at Canyon Vista and while the short term sites are next to US Highway 60 and therefore noisy at times, it is a nice park but a long way from a lot of the activities in the Mesa area. Our park (Mesa Spirit) has open sites, but they aren't available under Passport America. As to site sizes, some of the Cal-Am parks are pretty close together. But most have enough room for you to park your car along side of your rig and still have a patio area. Our site is 30 x 42, large areas for animals to walk (our cat walks on her leash every evening) and is close to a lot of things. No, you are not going to find fire rings - - though a number of people do have small containers for fires. If it were me, I'd spend one week at Val-Vista (a big park) and one week at Apache Wells (smaller park) as that will give you a good feel for the area. I wouldn't stay at Mesa Regal - those sites are really tight and they put you in vacant sites between park models which means it takes a long time to get in and get out! We did that once, never again. Barb

RE: Beware Ocean Canyon Properties

First, you can't buy anything through C2C. You can only become a member of C2C ONCE you have purchased a home park (or system) membership. Second, When OC bought Albita Springs, the WHR members that had Abita Springs as their home park were given the opportunity to change their home park to another WHR park. Some did, some didn't and now are upset about it. This has been true of all WHR parks. As to being lied to at the sales meeting - - that is not improbable. That's why everyone should get a copy of the contract, go somewhere else for the evening/day/some time period and READ it, and then READ IT again. It doesn't matter what you are promised, it is what is in the contract that counts. And whatever is promised as it has to do with an affiliated system isn't binding accept that you have a membership in that affilitation. If one doesn't read the details of that membership, then things will happen. And one of the things that is in ALL of the rules is the fact that the rules are subject to change! Yes, it is in the fine print and yes, they do change the rules on you. And then you have two choices, either to accept the rules and continue using the parks under whatever the new rules area, or not pay your dues and go on with life. I'm sorry to say that sometimes lack of preparation comes back to bite one in the butt. That said, we have been members of WHR for over 6 years, we fulltime, and average over 100 nights per year in membership parks and save HUGE amounts of money. For us it works, but then we are able to adapt to change easily. We have ROD, C2C, and AOR as affiliates and find that if we can't get into a park under ROD, we usually can under C2C or AOR. Another thing that most people don't realize is that ROD sites tend to fill up rather rapidly - and if you don't make reservations a way out (like 90 days for the Arizona/Southern California area in the winter) then you aren't going to get in under ROD and may have to go to one of the other affiliates that you have. RE: Winter Vacation vs. Snowbirding or being a Winter Texan.

When we lived in Phoenix in the early 70s, snowbirds arrived in October, a few at first, then more and more, until the place was full, and they all wanted to go sightseeing in the morning as I was trying to get to work! Didn't matter where they were staying, they were just here, the restaurants filled up (and the prices went up) and then after spring training, when the heat arrived, they all disappeared, prices went down, and we could get to work without any hassles. Now I are one. :B But we don't go anywhere early in the morning - I know the cacti will be there later in the day. Barb

RE: Beware Ocean Canyon Properties

Why does anyone think that they can stay under ROD at park systems that they belong to? And why does a businessman who sees an opportunity to grow a park system deserve to be berated because their buying up parks interfers with the travel plans of someone who uses ROD to save money? A wise person has more than one affiliate so that if they have to be out of ROD for 7 days, they can stay at said park under C2C for those seven days, then move on to another park under ROD for another 7 days. RE: The Ten Year Rule

You're less likely to get sued having a 10-year rule than having one that says 'well maintained' RVs only. Everyone has their idea of what 'well maintained' means. For some, it is the rigs that are washed every other day and waxed on Sundays - - ours would never been allowed because we feel that is why it rains once in a while. As to martinis - much rather have a bottle of a good Russian River Zin, or maybe a great Cab from the Alexander Valley. Not everyone wears T-shirts and jeans all of the time nor do they drink beer. RE: Beware Ocean Canyon Properties

One thing that people should understand is that this company bought up several parks from other membership park owners and people were not happy with their original membership being sold. Barb

RE: Foretravel

Trying to fined used Foretravel coaches outside of a dealer. Are there any sites for used Foretravel coaches or for sale by owner. Try this link on the Escapees forum. We know the coach - really a great one. Barb

RE: Beware Ocean Canyon Properties

We signed up for a five year package with Ocean Canyon Properties in Texas, $5500, promised multiple 2 week free stays in hundreds of RV resorts, cheap condos , RV resort discounts but failed to say only if their limited number of slots were available, no pets, additional fees. They have a no return policy, "F" rating from Better Business who bounced them out, and 34 pending legal actions. BEWARE!!! Alas we weren't. Can you stay in their parks? That is what you REALLY purchased, was staying in their parks. If you can, then you have nothing to complain about - they are providing access to their parks. Whether or not there is space available in affiliated parks (I'm going to assume you are talking about ROD) is another matter. With ROD you have to book 90 days out for the most popular parks and hope you get in. And it is harder this year since Thousand Trails pulled out of ROD - less ROD parks means the ones in the ROD system are used more. Now if you can't get into the Ocean Canyon properties, then you have a legitimate compliant. Barb

RE: Part time- Full time from Hawaii

You are one for whom a Montana LLC would make a lot of sense. You can have vehicles registered in a state where you "garage" them for a period of time. So if you were to store the RV in Montana (covered storage, etc.) for the time you were in Hawaii, then that would be where they were garaged most of the time, and you would never worry about traveling into Hawaii with your Montana registered RV. RE: On the road again!

Take a look at Millenicom, com, out of Portland, Or - uses the Verizon service, flat fee, no taxes, and 20G/month with free USB (3G), and NO contract. We're very happy with it. Barb

RE: Kitchen resepticals kicked out while trying to run vacuum.

Why do you ask the question and then won't listen to the responses from those that have been there, done that? You have ONE circuit that is out, by your description. Not all of the circuits that come through the inverter, correct? If only one circuit then you have two options - a circuit breaker or a GFI. Since most of us have been there, done that, telling you that there is a GFI circuit is where you start and you start by finding that circuit!!!!! Have you looked UNDER the bathroom sink for the GFI? Trust us, you have one and that is probably your problem. Now if all of the circuits that go through the inverter (using a couple of circuits for outlets and maybe the microwave) are out, then checking the inverter breakers (one going to the inverter, one coming out) or the reset for the inverter is the way to go. BUT find that GFI for the kitchen circuit FIRST. Barb

RE: Guages not reading accurately

Why are you so worried about it? You've already determined that you can read the actual LP level by looking at the tank. Not the best way, but certainly doable. Tank gauges are notorious for being inaccurate. Once you get use to your unit, you will find that you seldom have to look at the gauges. Barb

RE: Grey Water Tank

We have a 2010 Fleetwood Fiesta 34B and our Grey Water tank never seems to completely empty, at least according to the gage. Perhaps junk from the kitchen sink is glogging it up but we have no idea how to access the tank to clean out or is there some other way? We have tried the enzxyme treatment to no avail. Why are you worried about the gauge? Don't you have an idea of about how long you can go before emptying? If not, start keeping track of what goes in (# showers, length of time, # of dishpans full of water, etc.) until you think you need to dump. If water hasn't backed up into the shower, your tank isn't 'full'!:B Make sure you put Hot Water down the drains every once in a while, use water softener if you want, pour some sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) down the drain - good for both drain and tank, and don't worry so much about it. In fact, if on an extended trip, try lengthening the time between dumping by one day for both grey and black tanks until you get a feel for when they are full. The black tank is easy - it will 'burp' when becoming full. Grey is a matter of feel - - the worst is water backing up into the shower (scope out and pour down the toilet.) Barb

RE: What do you tell people when they ask where you are from?

I think finding out a little about folks I might be sharing a shower with IS my business. With "Google search" are our lives really that private anymore? Well you won't be sharing my shower - that's why I have a MH, so I don't have to share it with anyone.:W Barb

RE: What do you tell people when they ask where you are from?

"How Far Back?" is our standard comment, or "Well, we're fulltiming so home is where we park". As for people looking strange - let them, what do you care? Barb

RE: Heat from winshield

We've had a Prompt Sunscreen setup on our rig for 6 years. No screws or anything going into the rig. ONE person can put them up (that's me) and take them down with no need for a ladder. Use suction cups and hook/straps to window frames. These really work. You can see out of them during the day - in fact when we are in a COE park and have to go dump after 10 days or so, we don't bother taking them off just to drive over to the dump and back. Barb
