RE: Washer n Dryer usage

I use my laundry set almost daily, would not be without one now, just too handy to have. Would not matter to me if I was in a campground that forbid thier use, it would not stop me from doing my laundry, and heck if I got caught, no problem, there is wheels under that trailer./

RE: Keep it clean!

Mean Green is about the best overall cleaner that I have found. Regular Windex for mirrors and glass. Shoes off at the door helps alot, but my two shepherds can drag in alot of dirt, try to keep them outside for the whole day, no in and outs for them.

RE: Looking at a Jayco Designer today

I have the 38 RDQS, and replaced the Jayco furniture with better quality stuff, no brainer for me and if I was to order a new trailer, I might opt for no furniture and buy what I like.

RE: How long do they last?

Mine is a 2005, I fulltime, new floors, carpeting here and there, new kitchen set, and a leather sofa and loveseat today matter of fact. Trailer looks great on the outside, like a new unit almost. Guess like a house, upkeep and replace things when they wear out or fail.

RE: Fifth Wheel Fire this morning

I went through that three years ago, due to a faulty washing machine control panel. Lost everything and we were fulltimers. They burn fast, all said and done in about 30 minutes. No one was hurt in our case, when I had left that morning, the cat wanted in, and I remember saying to him, you can stay out all night well you can stay out all day.

RE: Trust me the price of gas is taking a toll

Not eating out in restaurants is one way to help out the fuel budget, this year I bought some cast iron cookware and gonna try my hand at campfire cooking. Instead of ordereing out for a pizza and all the trimmings, cook one on the campfire

RE: Trust me the price of gas is taking a toll

No longs trips for me this season either, just local campgrounds within a hour drive. I usually go seasonal for the summer months, but not this year, stay in my truck yard and take off for a coupla weekends out of the month. Seasonal site per month is roughly around 565.00 then the cost of fuel to get back and forth to work. Maybe another 80 a week. Too much. Would be okay if wages increased with the cost of living, but that ain't happening either, so something has to give. Filled a 5 gallon jug of gas the other day, 32.00 CDN, wow liquid gold.

RE: aurora silent diesel

Not sure, but Iknow up here you can get his 6.5 kw model for 1599.00, from what I can find out about these Yanmar copies, is that it appears there are a number of chinese factories making them and quality varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As he states in his info, he machines are built to a higher degree of quality, could be he buys the better chinese made motors????????? Kipor is supposed to be one of the better makes, I have the 5 kw model and it is pretty much identical to thier 6.5 kw model, very well built, clean and organized, put it right up there with a Honda. Only issue was the plastic control panel, the way they have them fasten to the main panel is not very good, I went in and uranthaned it, it ain't moving now.

RE: Anyone towing with propane

I changed over a couple of one ton trucks back in the middle 80's when it was mainstream to do so. On the Dodge with a 318 it worked very well, monthly cost of fuel went way down about 40 % on the Ford with a 390, fuel cost did not budge, at the end of the month I was paying the same amount of money out for fuel. Propane was half the cost but was using double the amount. Another problem was heat, the Ford ran hot, very hot. The ford needed the sodium valve heads. Big money back then, think overall the ford cost me over 4 grand to convert over and the Dodge was around 2 grand. My fuel cost per truck on regular gas was around 6-700 per month back then. Both trucks lost power. Living in Winnipeg at the time, during the winter, had to take a jug of warm water and pour that over the evaporator to warm it up. Start the truck and let idle, this almost always worked, once the engine started to warm your good to go. I thought of propane in a tow vehicle to pull my 38 foot fifth wheel. It would have to be a v-10 for sure to account for some power loss. I quickly got out of that idea when I recalled the heat problem which would only increase pulling that much weight. Maybe the engines built today are better/different?? and more adaptable to propane fuel??? Buddy of mine has his service vehicle on natural gas and swears by it. Problem is getting the fuel. Here in the Toronto area there is only fill up station. He is in the process of having a pump system installed at his house where he can fill his vehicle up overnite from his natural gas line running to his house. Imho, diesel is the way to go. One can offset the cost of diesel by driving accordingly, shorter trips if possible. Make sandwiches instead of dropping 40 bucks for lunch, that kind of thinking?????

RE: How would you fix this?

I second the aluminum or stainless panel to go behind the door lock, remember to apply sealant to the inside and then secure with some nice stainless or aluminum pop rivets or monobolts.

RE: after the new has started wearing off.....disappointments

Put it up on your pinbox, build install a platform, from the bed of your truck two guys can easily lift it up there. I mounted a Honda 3000 on my pinbox with a aluminum cover, works well, up out of the way, easy to service. On another trailer, I had it on the rear bumper, reinforced into the trailer frame rails. Super strong, but I never did like it back there and the noise/vibration in the trailer got old fast.

RE: using bed bolts to bolt down 5th wheel rails

Concerned about the weight of the hitch onto the bed collapsing the sheet metal. Those bed bolts go through the floor and into a light gauge channel under the box, around the bolt hole is a sheet metal box for added strength. Yea it would probably work, but the setup is only going to weaken the sheet metal to the point where it collapses or cracks. Yes the hitch plates are spread across a fair amount of box bed, spreading the weight, but heck, your there anyhow, do it properly I figure. As mentioned, I had a fifth wheel hitch years ago that was just bolted into the sheet metal wheel wells innner fenders. But the trailer was smaller and a lot less weight, not like the rolling condo's were pulling now.

RE: Six T-125 6V batteries in front compartment of 5er?

running a ac unit off a inverter will draw around 100 amps, thats quite a bit of power, hope your wiring and connections are ample and secured enough, anything less would be a disaster, anyone running that kind of power out of a battery for any length of time, needs a generator

RE: Six T-125 6V batteries in front compartment of 5er?

I had four mounted in the front compartment on a Cardinal fifth wheel I had awhile back. I took a good hard look at the framing in the compartment and it looked robust enough to handle the wieght of four batteries and i would not have hesitated to install 6. I did add some steel crossmembers where the batteries were sitting. Don't forget your adding to the pin weight, and that your tv has to take that extra weight as well. Not too mention the pin box and associated framing. Solar, do you run your ac unit?? I don't use solar, as I almost always park out of the sun, helps with cooling on hot days.

RE: using bed bolts to bolt down 5th wheel rails

Don't like the sound of that at all, hitch has to be tied into the main frame of the truck. Box is just sheet metal.
