RE: GETTING READY TO GO RVing

You do not necessarily NEED a slider hitch. Many of the newer 5ers have contoured front caps that allow pretty significant turn radius without hitting the cab of the truck. And many tow with a short bed and no slider with no problems. BUT. There is still the possibility of hitting the cab when backing into a tight space in a sharp turn, more so with some 5ers than others. A slider is a good safety investment. A good friend did knock out his back window with his. But his 5er did not have a contoured front cap like many.
The Pullrite Superglide is sort of the defacto standard others are measured by.
I have a 5th Airborne air ride pin box on mine. I think it is well worth the money to help smooth the ride.
Make sure the 5er you are considering is within the tow and payload ratings of your F250.

RE: Medicare use out of country

I am on Medicare also and my understanding is exactly as yours. Have not traveled out of the US since starting it so have not made any contingency plans. But will definitly do something if we do.

RE: Montana or Cedar Creek

Have not owned a Cedar Creek, so can't really say.
But when shopping, Cedar Creek, Cardinal, and Montana were our short list. Looked at all several times. All seemed comparable in quality and price. And we liked them all. But we kept coming back to the Montana. Something about it appealed more than the others. Lots of little things that are hard to explain.
Have had the Montana for nearly 5 yrs. Almost no problems with it. Would definitely buy another if we ever decide to trade.
Look them over until you feel you find the one you like best, and go for it.

RE: what is your break controller set for

Mine is set to 9. Does not lock the wheels at that.
If I remember, I will dial it down a little on wet roads. Don't want the brakes locking up on wet pavement and having the 5er come around.

RE: What do you use to clean your lcd tv's, monitors, etc

Got mine at Walmart.
It's called Phillip's Screen Cleaning Gel for plasma and LCD.
A spray bottle with a small soft cloth.
Works great.

RE: Might as well ban them all

There are nearly 4 pages of tire threads still open for this year alone.
Why do you think all tire threads get closed?

RE: Electric water heater causing various breakers to trip

As noted above. I did not have any problems with mine. But I decided to check connections any way. Found many screws loose on the distribution panel; hot, neutral, ground, 12 volt. Turn off all power, disconnect your power cord or turn off pedestal power, remove the cover on your distribution panel, and check ALL connections.

RE: 2008 Montana Mountaineer security lights

On my '07 Montana, the switch is on the panel with the porch light, interior overhead lights, slide ext/ret switches.
If you can't find it, go over to the Montana Owners Club web site. I am sure someone there can tell you, along with any other questions you may have.

RE: Use of Vented Tailgates

The fuel mileage testing was done on trucks not towing. Adding a 5th wheel to the truck creates a complete different set of air flow parameters. There is a huge additional frontal area providing added air resistance and pushing that air in all directions. And there is no clear space behind the truck for air flow off the back, only 2-3 feet of space between the truck and the trailer.
I have not seen anywhere that there has been any tailgate testing for mpg differences while towing a 5th wheel.

RE: Need local dealer to order Tailgater programming from Dish??

Can't help. Seems to be a common complaint when equipment is purchased from someone like Amazon rather than DISH or DISH reseller.
I purchased mine thru dishformyrv.com. Equipment arrived promptly. I connected it all up, called a phone number on the box, and it was up and running in about 10 minutes. No programming setup required. Just had to activate it.

RE: Dish network

I have a receiver that stays in the motor home something like $6 a month get the same channels on the road as home. No hassle of moving receiver back and forth.
Same here. Just bought a new receiver to leave in the RV and added it to my home account for $6/mo. Did that thru dishformyrv.com. Quick and easy.

Should be no problem. We (or I should say DW) run ours frequently at a campground where we only have 30 amp service.

RE: RV Reviews

jrconsumer.com is another. I tried it, but was not impressed. They obviously cannot buy and test every model RV there is. They can only seek out what ever information they can find, assemble that into some format they decide, and come up with personal opinions based on what they read and how they interpret it.
The problem with generic manufacturer reviews, such as the link in the previous post is that manufacturers such as Keystone, Forest River, Jayco, etc make numerous models under different individual brand names or product lines. Those different brand names (under the same manufacturer) can range from low end to upper end. So a generic rating means little.
Best thing to do is view as many manufacturers/models/floor plans you can. Find price range, brand, and floor plan you like and then ask here what the general experience has been of those who have been there.

RE: 20" rims not enough rubber for towing?

I do not get why you would want 20" wheels and tires. The bigger the tire size the more they cost. And I do not see any avantage of 20" over 17".
For most it is simply appearance. They do make for some good looking wheels and tires.

RE: Floating Pin Box

Unless they have changed it, Mor/ryde is not a "floating" pin box. It is a "rubber pin box" by their description. A block of rubber that absorbs shock in the four horizontal directions, but not cushioning up and down.
I have a 5th Airborne air ride pin box, something similar to the Trailair except the air bag is concealed inside the pin box rather than open. Works great. In the rear view mirror I can see the 5er moving up and down somewhat independent of the truck taking some the shock from the 5er. Truck also rides smoother. I did not have much chucking to begin with, now virtually none. Well worth the money in my opinion.
