RE: Campground Suggestions around Gananoque/1000 Islands, ON

Is the KOA the only option? That is a little pricey for our group. I did look at the Wellesley State Park that was mentioned but we are going to be on the Cdn side and don't want to have to do the border crossing again.
Does anyone know about the Landon Centre? Is it near the 1000 Islands boat tours?
Thanks for your responses.

Campground Suggestions around Gananoque/1000 Islands, ON

A group of us (5 rigs) will be touring the area this July and plan on taking the boat tour of the 1000 Islands that is near Gananoque. We are looking for a campground that is close. I did email Desert Lake RV Park, but found they are about an hour away. We don't want to commute that far.
I have sent an email to Landon Bay Centre but have not had a reply (I expect it is too early in the season and they are probably not open).
Any suggestions of other parks in the area?
We took the tour a few years back but can't remember where we stayed.
Thanks

RE: Turning in Tourist Permit at Puerto Penasco or Lukeville

Moisheh,
Thanks for the advice. We did actually come in that route in Jan and did not really find it that bad. Yes, there were potholes but taking it easy over the rough spots helped. The worst was the detour just before the bridge to Caborca, but understand there is an alternate route. Maybe we hit it lucky but the truck traffic was light. It sure beats dealing with the traffic and construction mess in Hermosillo.
There are 10 of us traveling together to PP. Some people went out that way last week and reported back that they are working on the potholes, but it was actually rougher as they had dug some of them up and made them larger prior to repair. We are hoping that the repairs are well under way by the time we leave in two weeks.
Do you know where we can drop our visitor visas?

Turning in Tourist Permit at Puerto Penasco or Lukeville

We will be returning from Kino Bay via the 'new' road by Puerto Liberdad and staying a few days in PP. Going this route does not take us past the immigration on Hwy 2 west of Caborca.
Someone here told us they were told there is an immigration office in PP where we can turn our permits in and have our passport stamped.
We do not want to backtrack and take the rigs to the immigration point or unhook and leave the rigs unattended so if there was a way could drop it off in PP it would be a bonus.
Last year when we crossed I asked the US Border guard if we could park our rig after crossing to walk back and return our permits and have our passport stamped. He told us because we were Canadians we did not have to do that. I have never heard that before and am not comfortable doing that. I don't want to have issues down the road.
If there isn't an office there, the other option I thought might work is to drive up to the immigration the day before we are crossing and do the 'deed' and then drive back to PP. I would prefer not to add a couple of hours of driving if it is not necessary.
Any suggestions?

RE: Campground near Salem & Boston, MA

Paul,
Thanks for that advice! We knew there were some issues with tunnels but didn't know where and were going to have to research that. I have made a note of it.
I believe there is the same type of issues around New York too??

Campground near Salem & Boston, MA

A group of 5 of us will be in the area early/mid October. We are looking for a campground that will be close to both Salem & Boston so we can do tours in both cities. I have only found one but figure there must be more. It needs to be big rig friendly and W&E good but not a deal breaker.
Your help is appreciated.

RE: Paperwork needed for border crossing?

I am the original poster...this was our experience. It seems like it is different depending who is working at that moment.
They wanted one copy of
Drivers Licence
passport
visitor visa
registration
I did not have a copy of our passport or visas (had the originals) and he told us we'd have to go across the street to the restaurant to copy it but then did do it himself and did not charge us.I had 3 copies of the DL, registration and Mexican insurance and did not need them all.
We are only traveling as far as Kino Bay, Sonora and had been told by several people already at Kino and have read on the forum that we would need to have a 10 yr permit for the MH and would have to pay the deposit on our ATV (have a MH/truck/ATV)but they absolutely insisted we needed nothing as far as permits and mentioned nothing about deposits. We ended up getting the 10 yr permit for the MH as we were worried we would have issues.
The other thing we thought odd was that they would only accept US dollars (or credit card) to pay for the 10 yr permit. They would not accept pesos.
As I said I think it depends on the crossing and the person helping you. Certainly no consistency. We took the new route to Kino via Puerto Liberdad and sailed thru every checkpoint.

Paperwork needed for border crossing?

We will be crossing at Lukeville this week and will need to get our 10 yr permit.(Motorhome/truck/ATV). What paperwork will we need to have copies of and how many copies? I have extra copies of our pink insurance slip. Will that be acceptable (if needed)?

RE: Print Server Issue- Need advice

Thanks to all for your assistance and help. I have used the print server with a different printer in the past and it was fine. That printer died so am recycling a different printer this year - a perfectly good but old photo printer and my 'scotch' genes don't want to toss a perfectly good printer plus the 4 ink cartridges I purchased for my winter use. (We are snowbirders). I eventually will replace it with a wireless printer, I was just hoping I could limp along for now.
So.. is there a different (as in cheap) scenario that will work? Is it possible to buy a hub (that is easy to set up) that will work with the Cat 5 going to the network router?
Failing that I will go to plan B... which is moving the printer next to the laptop as it does work when hooked up directly.
Thanks again, much appreciated.

RE: Print Server Issue- Need advice

garym
I have Vista. I went in and tried to add the printer but it is saying 'printer not found' I did click on "Add Network printer'.
Not sure if this would have anything to do with it but will mention it anyway. The printer I am using is an older HP1115 which is not compatible with Vista, however I googled drivers and found I could use the drivers 970se. It does work fine with these drivers when hooked directly to the printer with a regular printer cable. I don't know if this is why the print server keeps dropping off the network or not. Does this complicate the issue of adding the printer via the network?
Thanks for your help.

RE: Print Server Issue- Need advice

My apologies, not sure what you mean. I haven't gotten it to print at all with the Cat 5 scenario. It just indicates a printing error in the dialogue box.

Print Server Issue- Need advice

I am having an issue with my print server and trying to find a way around it as my techy son is not here to fix it for me so we are trying to muddle our way thru this.
What I have -
Hughes Net, that goes thru a router for wireless
A print server that keeps dropping off the network
A Cat 5 line that runs from the printer area to the front of the coach (this was added to run a high gain wifi antenna - currently not being used)
What we are trying to do -
DH felt we should be able to connect the printer to the print server using it as a hub, then connect the Cat 5 to the print server. On the other end of the Cat 5 line we needed to add a connector to extend the length of the Cat 5. (He confirmed with the techies at Fry's Electronics that this would work.)
So we then plugged the Cat 5 in to the router and expected we'd be able to print - not so. Also tried to plug the Cat 5 directly into the laptop and still a no go.
I have 2 different drivers for the printer - one that is when I am printing thru the print server and one if I am connected directly to the printer. Don't ask me why... this is way techy and over my head. :h
So.. what could be the problem?? Is there something different I need to do to the router and what printer driver should I be using?
If you have any ideas on what we need to do to make this work, please explain it in "Printing for Dummies" language. :B

Wow, I had no idea that the toll was that high although we had heard it was pricey. Thanks for all the route information. I think we have it nailed now.

Ontario Route Questions

Working on plans for our big trip next summer. A group of 5-7 of us each have designated provinces & states. Right now I am working on Ontario. What would be the suggested route from Niagara Falls to the 401 skirting Toronto that would be A) big rig friendly B) Avoid toll roads C)avoid the heaviest traffic (if that is possible?)
