RE: Curlew State Park,WA

It is first come, first served. Lot's of times people like to camp during the week and go home just before a long weekend. You might get lucky if you show up early early early and go around to see who might be checking out.

RE: first trip

I went to the local stores with measurements of the insides of my main cabinets and found a set of stacking bins that I mounted inside the cupboards. Each side up in the bedroom took three large bins, and still had room for hanging things. Until you find them and get them mounted, you might try putting in cardboard boxes stacked on each other. Put the flaps together on the top, and cut an oval hole on the bottom and stack them into the closet with the tops against the wall. The oval hole will let you access the clothes inside.

RE: Bent my Happijack leg drat!

Company leaves tomorrow.. I will measure the bend.. I think it's likely less than 15 degrees, maybe 12... Certainly nothing like the horror of 30. Will find my protractor tomorrow and let you know for sure.

RE: Two generator questions

Yes to the first.. never an issue. Run the genny, put it away in the back of the cab. Don't have an air conditioner..

RE: Bent my Happijack leg drat!

A couple of things to answer to some of the comments... Happijacs are a square tube, not a round tube. I can't put a pipe or sand into it as the screw is crimped inside. The beauty of it is, the front of this rig takes the brunt of the lifting, and the two jacks on the back can share the load, or either one can lift by itself with the front ones. I lifted it off the truck with three jacks, and lowered it slowly only allowing the tiniest of pressure on the bent tube until it was close to the platform. Then I had to remove the bend jack, and used the three others to lower it to the dolly underneath it. I'll take it apart and go see what people with a hydraulic press can do. It's a fairly tight fit into the other square tube, so it will be obvious if it slips in and out after straightening.

RE: Bent my Happijack leg drat!

I think 30 degrees is a bit of an overstatement... I will measure and check. The jack comes here in Canada as a jack without either the manual or electric option. Jack is $374. I think in the USA is around $225. Shipping to Canada was $155.

RE: Bent my Happijack leg drat!

Well the happy thing is, I took them all apart only a few weeks ago and lubed them all up, so I know all about taking them apart. Thanks for the words of encouragement. As far as I could see, the inner screw stays inside the bent piece. I think there is some crimped sections to hold the screw inside. It must be put in, then crimped so one can't actually screw the leg right off.

Bent my Happijack leg drat!

Holey Crapoly, In a moment of utter stupidity I drove the leg into the ground and bent it backwards about 30 degrees about 18 inches from the bottom. My question is, would it be possible to heat this and return it to straight, or is a new leg in order? The inner screw is not affected and could be withdrawn away from where heating and bending would be done. The main body is not bent at all, nor is anything else stressed. The jack will still extend out to its limit. It's the rear one on my rig. Thanks for any help. Idiot... er... I mean Mike

RE: 1990 Ford 460 FI major power loss

It could be an ignition timing issue, particularly if it has a distributor. It the sparp advance does not pull the advance forward of top dead center when you pull a heavy loaf, and the unburned gas just goes out the exhaust valves. If you had a vacuum hose spark advance, pull the hose off, and then race the engine suddenly. If there is no change from what you have now, you are in the right spot.

RE: Kyack

I saw an older T/C go by yesterday with an open back door and an aluminium boat on it's side sticking out about two feet! Yes, it can be done!!

RE: Pics atch. how do i turn up temp on hot water heater

You should put down a bucket and see how much water you are really using in 80 seconds. We use our HWT one after the other, but we put it on, wet down, put it off.. soap up and clean... put it on and wash off. Likely we don't use a gallon of hot water each but it's all it takes to come clean.

RE: I love camping

This just says it so well.... Oh heck, it is all wonderful and that is why we do it whenever we can and miss it when we can't. Perfect...

RE: Crossing into Canada and saving the Vegetables

Likely when they hear about the shotgun the veggies will not even be mentioned. Fill the vehicle in the last city before you cross, and bring in your choice of liquor up to the limits as well. If you like cheeze, bring in lots, it's pretty pricey up here. Chicken as well.

RE: New window in door The best !

My best curtain solution was to get a strip of fridge magnet from the stationary store. One strip I mounted on the top of the door, the other strip I sewed into the material for the curtain. I wanted it on, click, off, unclick and rool, place either above or behind seat.

RE: Fuse box. Help!

It's a plastic cover over something behind that you don't know about. The key to finding it is sometimes it's just inside from where the electrical hose is outside. The cover either pops off, or is hinged on one side.

RE: Truck camper for Truck

Short answer... NO! Long answer, only the most basic camper will not be overweight, but if you are able to go to tiny, without many features like A/C and a bathroom, maybe. Some people have a wonderful time in short box trucks and campers, others need 10 or 11 feet and 5000 pounds of T/C.

RE: Water pump, Water heater

Rick, perhaps you have a valve that lets you fill with a hose connection directly onto a threaded fitting on your RV. Once you fill the tank, you have to shut off that valve and then the pump will build up pressure in the system. It's also necessary to change some valves to fill the hot water tank.

RE: The electrical has me confused

We used a 400 watt inverter from Costco for about $40. We found that with a 27 inch Sony on Eco mode it drew about 53 watts. The cooling fan in the inverter did not run. When we went to regular mode (the picture was a little brighter) it drew about 75 watts. This would cause the cooling fan to run... noisy little bugger.

RE: Homemade wine...cheap, easy and not too darn bad!

I've been making my own for about 32 years now. Pretty much do it from fruit, berries and rhubarb at home.
