RE: Page, Arizona Hwy 98

The grade is fairly steep, but if you control your speed you'll do fine. Slow down at the start, keep it under control. Makes a lot more sense than driving around the block to Tuba.

RE: Driving Salt River Canyon in AZ

Both sides are steep, but if you keep your speed down and take it slow and easy there shouldn't be any extra excitement. There are quite a few number of pull-outs, so you can let traffic past as well as enjoy the view.

RE: Thunderbird can't send

Is this something that just started after having worked, or is it a new install? What o/s, and what are you using for a firewall? Most common smtp issue is having one little oopsie in the setup make sure your smtp info is exactly correct. If you have an email client which does work, copy the settings exactly to T-bird's set up. If you're using a firewall that blocks outgong, make sure it's set to allow T-bird ot access the internet. Make sure your service uses the port T-bird is looking for, usually it will be 25, which it T-bird's default. Make sure that the authentication setting is correct for your server.

RE: VLA to Petrified Forest via NM 60 and AZ 180?

That's the route I'd take, even with having to pay the pie tax.

RE: RV Campground Costs

I could tell you what we spend, but it would be meaningless. You won't travel the way we do, you won't travel the way anybody else does. Your $500/mo figure is a not unreasonable number to plug into your proposed budget, but realize that your travel style will affect how accurate that is. Weekly and monthly rates will be less than daily. Stopping to visit friends and family, parking in their side yard, will save. Overnighting at free or low-cost spots will save, as will PA, Escapees and other discount options. Your first year travel may not turn out to be typical for you. Often folks startng out full-timing will find themselves in vacation mode for the first several months - trying to stuff way too much travel into their lives. If you aviod that, slow down and enjoy where you are at any given time, you'll spend less. (Do as I say, not as we did our first year. :)) Most important, imo, is to do and see the things which are important to you. If you find you're spending too much, dial back a bit. Don't worry about campgrounds and RV parks going out of business. Some will, some won't, some new ones may or may not spring up. Regardless, you'll cope: you have so far, haven't you? If you search the forums for the amounts that folks spend, you'll see that their numbers are all over the map. One person spends $4/night annual average; another might spend 3 or 4 times that. Just do what works for you, and if it's not working as well as you'd like, modify.

RE: Bed covers

Another Truxedo user. We had a minor issue on two occasions, and both times the factory was right there to solve it. When comparison shopping, be sure to check manufacturer's warranties.

RE: Concealed carry permit.

The Sheriff of Minehaha cty will in fact issue a permit to a resident living at 3700 S. Westport Ave in Sioux Falls. Here, I'm holding mine up to the screen... I will stipulate that conditions may have changed since my SD permit was issued in '05. But. Listening to some "expert" on the internet, and acting on that advice is a good way to find yourself charged with a crime. There are plenty of resources to find the legal information you need. I'll give you an example: Begin quote: Many of you are assuming that if you have a permit from a state like Utah for example which is recognized by a bunch of other states (reciprocity) that you can carry in all those states. That's true, only if you are actually an official resident of Utah!! If you're a resident of SD for example, your Utah permit is NOT recognized by all the other states. Same thing for me currently. My AZ permit is recognized by SD as long as I'm an AZ resident. Should I become a resident of another state, my AZ permit would no longer be recognized. end quote. Bull. Wrong. Partly, anyway. Some states do in fact recognize non-resident permits. Others do not. As well, getting your permit information from a cop is a good way to find yourself arrested. That is not a slam against cops, they just plain don't know all the details regarding reciprocity and recognition, they can't possibly know everything there is to know, nobody can or does. Get a copy of the Traveler's Guide. Get a new edition every year. You'll have some chance of having correct information. Most of the time. Use the Guide to check the official web site of any of the states you're traveling to or through to find what the status of any permit you hold to be at a given point in time. Usually the official sites are accurate, usually. Mostly. Don't take my advice, IANAL, don't take legal advice of some guy on the internet, there is too great a chance that it will be partly or mostly wrong, and the consequences can be significant.
