RE: Help me narrow down from 3 choices...

There is NO way I would want to tow a 30+ TT with any of the vehicles you are reviewing. The 2009 and 2011 Dodge Durango are two different generations.
A 2500 series Suburban would make for the best towing capable large SUV.

RE: Pool lifts for Mobility challenged

It's my understanding that the new ADA requirement is for a permanently mounted lift. Pool operators already comply with a slope or a portable lift. There are many stories from hotel operators that there as NEVER be a single request to use the portable lift. One more government over reach that will close recreational access to everyone!

RE: Solar or Generator?

Generator first. A Yamaha or Honda are the best RV friendly units available. Quiet, fuel efficient, and reliable. The generator will be less expensive and is ready to use right away with no installation. The generator will provide power when you need it. Start building you solar system with batteries, Charger, inverter, converter, and panels. I'd love to add a solar setup but I can't justify the expense for only camping 20 or so days per year.

I used outdoor carpet for a few years before I discovered how much better an RV matt is.

RE: Purchasing Trailer - has not been registered - Aurora,CO

You should have no issues as long as you have the title that proves ownership. Past or current registration is not important. I could by a car, park it my garage and never register it.

RE: what's true

My brakes are NOT self adjusting and require manual adjusting. It's super easy to do. Lift one wheel at a time, remove the rubber plug, take a flat bladed screw driver to turn the star wheel, rotate the tire until drag is noticed and back off the star wheel a bit and replace the rubber plug.

RE: If you dont travel with the FW tank full???

I only haul water when there is no water available near my camping destination. However, my typical traveling is up and over mountain passes usually 100+ miles from home with known water sources available. If I was traveling on the flats of TX for only 50 miles I'd haul the water.

RE: How do you secure your breakaway cable to your hitch?

I don't connect it to the 'hitch' at all... ;)
I connect it to the bumper of my truck that is not connected to the hitch in any way.
The idea being that if the entire hitch fails, there goes your break away attachment point right along with the hitch!
That's just what I do.. ;)
Mitch
Excellent point Mitch! Hitch failures are very rare but I do recall GM had some problems several years ago with hitch failures. One more fine example how valuable this site is.

RE: Has anyone mounted a truck camper on a flatbed trailer ?

I would make sure the flat bed trailer has a good suspension setup. Most flatbeds tend to be very stiff when compared to a truck.

RE: Roof Top A/C

I have a good friend who's business is repairing commercial refer units on trucks & trailers. He helped me with a Coleman unit that went bad many years ago and this is what I learned... the units are "sealed" and do not have service ports installed. There are clamp on devices that pierce the tubing to allow for testing and charging. I was told they are really only a temporary solution. Turned out the compressor was bad most likely from never getting used.

RE: Camping VS Hotels

I saw your previous postings about tent camping. Tent camping is a very economical way to travel. Tents and basic equipment is far cheaper than purchasing a RV of any kind and still cheaper than a week of hotels and eating out. If you have the time, I'd make for the rockies for a some very different environments and escape the miserable SE heat. You can always mix in a visit to an amusement park in between state park visits.

RE: Newbies headed to Yellowstone

I was very glad my parents towed in their minivan for to use as we toured the park. NO way would I want to drive a 35' MH around Yellowstone. There are several rental car outfits listed in West Yellowstone, MT.
If you want hook ups, I'd be be looking to make a reservation ASAP.

The Sequim area benifits from seeing the least amount of rain. It's in the Olympic mountain "rain shadow" effect area.

RE: Which generator setup????

If the weight and larger size of the 3000 is not an issue for you, that would be my choice. Any of the other options you listed would work out very well also.
My single 2400 works perfect for me even when needed to run the air on the rare hot day. I would not have choosen the 2400 if needing air was a high priority.

RE: Yellowstone Park Visit

I think changing your "base camp" location is a good idea. When we visited the area for a total 11 nights we had 3 base camp locations to limit long drives and maximize time and enjoyment. 2 in Cody, 5 in Yellowstone (Fishing Bridge), and 4 in Grand Teton (Colter Bay).
Enjoy my favorite NP's!
