RE: yellow plastic vent -- paint it?

Just a quick thought, before you install the new vent, paint it and the paint will prevent the sun from yellowing it. Paint has the UV inhibitors in it.

RE: Heater noise is excessive

I just put one diode on to stop the rumbling. It slows down the fan only just a half of a volt. Like lower batteries sort of. Never wakes us up anymore.
Just out of curiosity, where did you put the diode? in line with the 12VDC supply to the furnace or in line with just the motor?
My furnace is loud in the cabin, but quiet outside. Its a shame they can't put a quieter fan blade set-up on the motor - probably would cost them an extra $1.00 to replace the egg-beater blades.

RE: I know...but its too cool

We had one truck up at a meet in Vermont carrying a converted 5th wheeler in place of its dumpster box. He could off load it in less than 5 minutes. Kinda neat, and more room than the 5th wheeler had in the first place. It was the hit on the Safari field that weekend.

RE: TC and bike racks...

I use a receiver mount at the rear of the truck. Holds two bikes away from the camper body. Just have to pull a pin to remove the tube holding the rack and I have access to the camper.
I've seen a few bikes drop off vehicles that used straps, good way to lose the bike and gain a few "friends" when they run over the bike.

RE: Why Won't My Battery Charge?

I made the same mistake with my camper starting out - 12vdc is barely good to hold the temperature if the refrigerator is pre-cooled. I use the propane whilst traveling and turn to 115VAC if hooked up. The propane usage really is minimal and the cooling is better with the propane running.
The wire going to the camper from the trailer outlet is really a small gauge wire - quite a bit of voltage drop and very little charging can take place.
If you need to run it off the alternator, run 6 gauge wires in as short a run as possible to the battery.

RE: Deer attack

I had Dancer, Prancer, and Bambi fly in front and over my car on the way home from work - Deer can fly!
The next close call was riding the motorcycle down my residential street and Bambi tried it again - that was a little close. Seeems they like the yard decorations to hide in and eat while traversing the city.
They are attracting the coyotes up here in CT. Ahhh, wildlife, never see them up North in the forests, just here nibbling at the neighbors.

RE: All you Lefthanders out there

Found out when serving in the army that I was more left-handed than Right. I shoot with my left eye, catch better with my left, can't throw for beans with either hand. Being a tad ambidexterous made teaching people how to run machines interesting to say the least. One gal (lefty) had little problem running a coil-winding machine, another gal (could lose her left arm and it would help) couldn't follow my method at all. After breaking 10 coils of #44 magnet wire, I asked her if her left hand was broke. Turns out, she was a real right-handed person. I had to find another engineer to teach her on my machine.
At work, my desk is set-up for a left handed person. You should see the right handed people try to use my computer - the show is a lot of fun for me.

RE: Upgrading from ice box to 3 way....Sun Lite p-up TC

Just noticed the A/C below the Refrig and Converter - good use of the access door area to mount the unit. Do you remove the A/C when loading the camper or do you just raise the jacks higher?

RE: 30 Amp docking station and TC carport installation

I plug into a regular 15/20 amp GFI outlet with my modified cord set. The camper doesn't need more than 15 amps even if the microwave is running or the heater is on low (rarely need high heat at 12 amps). The GFI is per our building code and hasn't tripped yet.
If I had an A/C, I'd run the 30 amp line and outlet to where I park the truck and camper.

RE: Trip Report: Our neck of the woods, Townships of Quebec

Thank you for posting your trip report. Quebec still has that European look and feel to it. Wish my wife would re-up her passport so we can travel again.
Beautiful country you have, wish my French was a little more passable for speaking instead of just barely able to read the signage.

RE: OWNERS MANUAL 93 HIDEAWAY/SUN-LITE 850W

The manual with my Sunlite was extremely general. Look on the web for manuals and other information. All the manual had was information on how to load the truck, safety stuff like don't use the stove without cracking a window, etc.

RE: Europe : Albania June 2011 2 different looking

Great pictures! I translated some of the verbage using Yahoo Babel Fish and understood what the pictures were about.
The story about the police outpost and the men accepting the beer was good.
Makes this forum rich!

RE: Back up camera

I bought a wireless one for I think it was $90.00. I love it!! I have it hooked up to the running lights so I can turn it on when driving to check on the trailer, or use it to back up.
You just gave me an idea on how to power up my camera without going into reverse. I'll use the "bed" light which is not hooked up.

RE: propane gage

Most of the gauges measure the vapor pressure inside the tank (doesn't really work that well). The integral gauge does the same. Usually by the time the tank is dry, the pressure drops off fast.
The only accurate way of knowing how much propane you have left is to weight the tank and subtract the "tare" weight from what the filled tank weighs.
Either a fish scale or a bathroom scale would work.
Other methods of finding the amount of liquid involve pouring water on the outside of the tank and seeing where the water evaporates.

RE: New type of camper stand

Looks like they are just keeping their spot. Has to be at least 4 to 6 inches of clearance betwixt the table and camper.

Solar panels do more than generate electricity

Interesting link which confirms that adding solar panels are a great Idea to help cool the cabin.

RE: Sun Lite wiring...

I understand the original converters were iffy at best. Probably should change that out. I had to add the wiring to my battery when I first got my camper home. also had to re-do the sloppy wiring by the dealer to the truck - they used romex house wiring - no flex, shorted to the connector cover. Since I only needed 3 good wires, I went with a 10 gauge extension cord, put the 6 pin on one end and the 7 pin trailer hook up on the truck end. 5 years and its still working well (also helps to put dielectric grease inside the connectors before sealing them up).
The only real mod I made to the wiring was to add a fan to the center vent - went smooth once I had the old vent out. Added a "porch" light to the rear - helps a bit at night when putting the loose items away.
Just need a good place to store the rods outside.

RE: Sun Lite wiring...

I have a 85 Sunlite 6.9; The wires I have coming from the truck to the camper are the following:
12+ - goes to the battery and the "12vdc house wiring"
gnd - to all 12VDC circuits
Lights - to the running lights.
I tested my circuit using a volt-ohmmeter to determine the polarity before I wired up my connector. Find the ground connection first, then test the remaining circuits with a 12vdc power source.
Internally, its wired thru the converter to the battery.
Attach the negative to the ground first, then probe the other connections with the 12VDC positive power. My Sunlight has a 6 pole connector with only 3 active poles, so you probably only have 3 out of 4 active on your critter.
