Chicago

We are planning a trip to Chicago this summer. We have a 5th wheel and two boys age 9 and 5 so a pool at the campground would be good. Any suggestions for a campground on the North side that is far enough out to be fairly quiet, yet have easy access to the city?

RE: Question???

If you have the heat on, it will take more cold than that to freeze your pipes. I mean the ones in your camper. The water supply line can be wrapped with heat tape to keep it from freezing, even in very cold weather.

RE: Waxing a 40ft 5th wheel

I hand wax ours before it goes in the shed for winter storage. It is not a task I look forward to. It also is the definitive end to the years camping season.

RE: Temperature guns for tires

I use a Mastercool on a regular basis. Not only on the tires, but on the hubs to make sure the bearings and brakes are not running hot. They are quite accurate. The only problem is material that has low e rating. A shiny metal surface will not give the true temp with a IR thermometer. Tire surface will be very accurate. This does not substitute for a COLD tire pressure check before departure.

RE: Tire Pressure

Last summer we were next to a couple that had just blown a tire and tore up the whole side of the camper. He explained to me that they had just drove 25 miles to the tire shop to have the tires checked for pressure and they were ok. My instructors in the emergency vehicle operator course challenged us to pass the course with more than 5 psi under the SIDEWALL pressure as listed on the tire COLD. They maintained we would fail without the maximium load bearing pressure for the tire. Tire pressure needs to be measured on a "cold" tire and not one that had warmed from driving. As long as the weight is within the load range for the tire, it does not matter if the tire is loaded or not-as long as it is "cold" and at the sidewall pressure as set by the tire manufactuer.
