RE: Under Sofa storage (waste space)

I managed to squeeze 2 rolling, under-bed plastic storage boxes under my jack-knife sofa. Use them to store my wife's sewing supplies. Found out they slide sideways easier once I removed the little wheels. The wheels would get stuck in the carpet. I also store a 4 ft folding table and my wife's cutting mat vertically behind the back of the coach. I just can't waste any available space.

RE: Uses For Empty Plastic Folgers Containers

I save the plastic bags my newspaper comes in for dog duty pick-up bags and store the unused bags in a Folgers can next to the RV door.

RE: Camping Equip Thief Arrested

Last January, while camped in a semi-remote area in Quartzsite, I noticed an older Chevy van driving off road checking out the remote campers. Drove right through our campsite and didn't stop or wave. Couldn't see anything in the back as the windows were blocked with cardboard. Stepped out and managed to get the license plate. Just checked my notebook. Yup, plates were from Oregon. Wonder if this is the same guy?

RE: Debit Card and ATM Fees at Bank of America

How do we get cash?
I use a Credit Union issued VISA Debit card. No fees of any type. To get cash when traveling I shop at one of the large chain stores (Wal-Mart, Safeway, etc)and get cash at the check-out. Each of these stores ask if you would like any cash back when they are processing your purchase. They will give up to $100 and sometimes more and charge it to your debit card. This is a big benefit to the store as they convert a lot of their cash on hand into an electronic transaction. This saves them from having to count, handle, and deposit large amounts of cash to their bank.
This is the practice that BOA will now charge you the $5 a month for.
I'm using a Credit Union Debit Card....NO fees.

RE: Battery draw when Ford PSD is parked and engine off

My friend has had the same problem for some time and it just got it fixed this week.come to find out there is a sensor on the light under the hood instead of a switch so light would stay on when hood was closed. Just remove the bulb and see if that fixes your problem. His truck is a 04 f350 psd drw.
Another place to check as I've heard that the glove box light may stay on when the glove box door is closed.

RE: Alaska Inside Passage - spring or fall

Here in SE Alaska, the 2nd week of May through the 1st week of June is usually the best weather. The day are getting longer, gaining about 4-5 minutes of daylight each day. I've lived here for 11 years now and always recommend this time period to down south friends who plan to visit on a cruise ship.
Right now we've had an extended rainy period. Over 4" of rain in the last 7 days. And rain showers are predicted for the next 7 days.

RE: Warning -- Elk hinder Airstream on the Alaska Highway!

Sue t.
Are you the Sue T. who has just become the head of the Yukon Quest? Our local paper had an article about the registration for the race and mentioned a Sue T. who was born in Whitehorse and recently moved to Whitehorse from BC. I immediately thought of you.
If so, congratulations!!

RE: Medications

We are not yet full-timers and I am not a Vet, but I have wondered how many of you handle this issue. I am on a transdermal pain patch that I have to have refilled every 30 days. I phone in a Rx reill request to my doctor's office and have to physically pick up the paper script and take to the drugstore. ( I use Walgreens) My doctor tells me they can't phone in the refill to the drugstore, it has to be a physical script due to Fed Regulations. I haven't figured out how to handle extended trips when I have to pick up a physical prescription refill every 30 days?? How do you all work this???
How about asking your Doctor to write a Rx for each month you will be gone. Ask for a pre-dated Rx for each future month. I'm not an expert so I don't know if this is legal.

RE: What a rip-off. Two-star park for a 6 star price

Is the Golden Nugget RV Park on Debarr Road still open? Stayed there a couple of years ago in October while my wife was in the hospital. I thought it was a decent CG with reasonably sized sites. Plus there was a lot of grass around the gravel parking sites. I understand the caravans use it in the summer but their were over 200 sites and I doubt caravans could fill them all. Plus, there's a COSTCO across Debarr and a Freddies just a couple of blocks down the road. Next time I have my RV in Anchorage I wouldn't hesitate to stay there.

RE: Alaska fuel prices

Currently gas is $4.22/gal in Juneau and diesel is around $4.30/gal. We're all waiting for the next fuel barge with hopefully cheaper gas and diesel.

RE: leaving the house empty in winter

I contracted with a local security company to make twice a day random checks of our home. They would go inside to make sure the heat was on and ensure everything was OK. Didn't have to worry at all. The cost was only $216 per month. Will do this again next year.

RE: Yukon River - Dawson City - ferry in, border crossing closed

Just drove the Alaska Highway and everything is much more frozen than I remember in 7 years of coming up. Ducks and swans couldn't find a place to land - saw 7 swans huddled in a small open area.
Nenana Tripod is still up though they are prediciting it will fall any day (minute) now. It is the largest jackpot ever this year at $338,000. Last year it fell on 4/29. Nenana Ice Classic
Nenana Tripod came down today at 4:24 PM.(AK Standard Time - which is used for the event)

RE: May too early for Alaska?

As a Juneau resident, I've found the last 3 weeks of May and the first week of June to be the best, sunny weeks of the year. And, yes, the tourist shops and trips will be open and available.
