RE: 4g cell+micro hdmi cable+tv+slingbox= ???

This seems so much better then forking out the $$ for an in-motion sat dish or dealing with the hastle of pointing a dish..why isn't everyone doing this..there has to be some major drawback I am missing, right?
Does the image on the TV appear like it does during regualr viewing? Can you recommend a cable to use or just any hdmi adaptor cable. I am exicted, I just want to be sure before I pull the trigger $$ and buy the Slingbox.
Thanks! Travis
I've only just started doing this......so far.....it's pretty good....not perfect........my weak link is the DSL in my house.....it's very slow.....I am looking into upgrading to fiberoptics which is now available in my area.....I picked up a cheap cable to start with at monoprice.com
I have not yet done this while camping only at home so far.....as I already have dish network in my motorhome.....the drawback there would be if you are camping in a 4G area?
If you have Dishnetwork.......they were doing a promo where they were giving the sling adapter away for free......I only had to pay $8 tax for mine.....

RE: Fooling Around With New Wireless Relay

I am using one of these remote controls to operate the fantastic fan over our bed.....On a warm summer night I like to have it on directing the airflow downwards, When I start to doze off I can reach up and turn the fan off........as you can see in the picture below I mounted the remote under the wall sconce.......

RE: Looking at an Iphone 4 to tether

Being that you are in California..........you are very likely to be in a 4G area or will be soon....... currently on Verizon you can get 4GB per month for $30 and use PDAnet for nothing extra.......going with the Iphone that is strictly 3G and a smaller screen would be quite a step backwards in technology, performance and ease of use as compared to one of the current 4G offerings available at Verizon.....the Bionic, Razr or Nexus will all work well for someone like your husband with as you say "Big fingers".......
My wife has a 3G Droid X and I have the 4G Bionic........my phone is so much quicker at tasks and apps than hers.......when we are in the car together she reaches for mine when she is looking up something or using the google maps/gps function.......
As you know.........a Verizon store will have all of them on display.......having him play with them at the store might be the best route......

Anyone been to Traveland USA in Irvine, CA lately?

I just heard that Family RV has moved out.........The only remaining dealer, McMahons RV is currently packing up as well as the El Toro RV service and parts store......The Traveland website is down.......the cafe is all closed up......
I hear it's pretty much a ghost town in there now........anyone been there lately?
I hate to see that place go....Years ago, We have spent many hours walking around there on many Saturday afternoons......dreaming of one day owning our own RV......

RE: Replacing cable to batwing

I replaced the cable from my bat wing to my selector box.........there was 5 pieces of cable in that run with connectors in between....the reception was terrible......it wasn't easy.....but, it was doable.....the one piece of RG6 made a huge difference.......I used the center conductor of the cable to help pull the new cable.....I twisted the 2 center conductors together and used a bunch of tape to hold it all together......

RE: leveler jacks

How do i go about deciding how many inches the legs should be and the weight capacity of each leg.
Call HWH.........http://www.hwh.com/ and tell them which chassis you have and the year.........they will tell you what you need.....

RE: leveler jacks

My Motorhome is a 1996....on a Ford F53 chassis........it did not come with jacks.....early on it wasn't a big deal and didn't really mind using boards to level it out......in 2005 We looked at trading for one that had jacks......We decided We would keep this one and would add jacks to it......at that time I was able to buy all of the parts/pieces to a HWH hydraulic jack system.........I spent $2500.......I did all of the labor myself over a 5 week period working a couple of hours here and there....We had a lot of rain that year so that dragged it out.......all in total I probably have 12 hours labor in it......

RE: Towing a toad without using brakes?

Some states require a sup. brake system some don't.
To my knowledge.........there are very very few if any states within the US that require toad brakes......as stated, there is however a performance requirement that must be met....
Despite the law, if a person does not feel safe towing without supplemental brakes.....by all means they should have them.....afterall...too much braking power is better than not enough.....
