RE: New to Toy Haulers advice needed

Thumper, congrats on your purchase. Remember, think of buying a $49,000 TH as being your "second home, second garage, a hauler w/living space, your vacation home and most importantly, a very expensive box trailer, something you can always tinker with! We own a 2010 Keystone Raptor 361LEV, I guess you could call it the Fusion's cousin. I love towing it. It demands attention and you must respect it's length when you go to make a turn or pull into or back in/out of a driveway or spot!

RE: Matching a truck with a fifth-wheel

I'd have to agree with the general consensus. 9000lbs any way you cut it, you need a diesel...
You won't find me, or a host of 8.1 and V10 owners, agreeing with that.
I guess we are all entitled to our own opinions.:)

RE: beach trip

We'll be down at Myrtle Beach Travel Park just up the road from you in a few days! I'm glad we are going there instead of Ocean lakes... we almost got ran over by a golf cart last time we stayed at OL's. Too many golf carts flying around for me.

RE: Matching a truck with a fifth-wheel

I'd have to agree with the general consensus. 9000lbs any way you cut it, you need a diesel. Simply more torque and pulling power. If all you are going to do is take the truck you are going to get and tow the 5ver to a seasonal spot or something like that, you will probably be fine. But if you plan on doing some traveling, please heed the advice. I haven't even heard the safety aspect of this come up yet... Get ready...:B

RE: Myrtle beach next week! Yeah!

Are you going down for the Myrtle Beach Harley Davidson rally? Too busy for me. I want to visit family, but I think I will wait until all the bikers are gone.
Bikers week is this weekend, I believe. We will be arriving next Wednesday. Besides, I don't think they allow motorcycles in this park, so I am not that worried about it. I have a goldwing and can haul it in the toy hauler, but I will not be taking it or riding in the crowds. The sandy beach is where I will be.

RE: Full hookup at home

During an addition to our home we installed 30A RV on each corner of the house. One side has dump also. Water is close also. My private RV park. My friend pulls has motorhome the otherway around so they can look at the saltwater channel on the other end on the house.
Yeah, We've been in this house for about two years now... we actually downsized. But I was thinking about running utilities to a post where it would be more convenient. But then I got to thinking.. I got the septic clean-out right there, all I have to do is wire a 50amp plug and run the water hose right from the front of the garage and that's what I decided to do.

RE: Full hookup at home

You are a lucky guy. :):)
Yep, It's called not living in a subdivision and having my own septic tank. I really haven't had an opportunity to use the dumping yet, but If I needed to it will be there.

Myrtle beach next week! Yeah!

Headed to Myrtle beach Travel Park Next week. It's been a while since we last visited. I hope everything is the same as it used to be. I was a little disappointed that they would not let us reserve a specific spot as in years past. Hopefully we can get a front row or at least be on the end. I can't stand being somewhere in the middle, all you can see is someone else slide out...

RE: Picking up the new 5'er!

Our first 5ver was a Cougar after the TT. You will enjoy it and it will tow like a dream compared to the TT! We pulled ours 6000 miles across this great country. Then 3 years later we had to get something bigger, errr I wanted something bigger...LOL

RE: Best built Toyhauler

Over the years of owning different RV's, learning, general observation and most importantly working on them myself I have made several conclusions about "The Best built RV" Toy hauler in this case. The "best" is purely a matter of opinion. But there are a lot of things one can look at and I will use my own experience to help.
First, the more you pay does not necessarily mean you will get the "best". But in some cases that could be true, provided you find the right RV and the right manufacturer. For example, one toy hauler could have the best chassis, but everything else could be cheap, for example, plastic exterior components that don't last long. (I have had to replace many parts on my Raptor that I was able to pick up at camping world that were much better quality than what the manufacturer installs. Other RV's could have the best and highest quality components but a very bad and cheap chassis.
Second, it's all about keeping costs down. Even though the manufacturer touts quality, etc, etc, that is not always the case. I always like to refer to the fact that with most RV's, I can't speak for then all, is that there is really "not much to them". Manufacturers are trying to keep the weight down and will cut corners where they can to save on weight. This might include thin aluminum, thin OSB for the roof, thin fiberglass for the exterior and thin roof membranes. If you have ever actually had to replace parts on your RV, and have seen some of the inner construction, you know what I am talking about.
Third, I'd say to try and find the best RV you can that has the best chassis and "foundation" and possibly the best roof. The problem is, cost, the only way you will get the best of the best is to pay the price. The sky is the limit, we all know that. But still sometimes that will not guaranty the best, but you will come closer.
