RE: How to replace broken eyebolt tie down points?

I would remove the lower part of the siding to access the top of the bolt. When I removed mine I found the wood had some rot that allowed wiggle. I replaced both the wood and the tiedown. I was able to get to the structure by removing the filon on the bottom of the overhang. Careful because the plumbing may be close to the frameing. Drains are usually polypropoline and water Pex.

I have both a 16 ft tandum axel box trailer and a 4 horse trailer that I tow with my class 5 hitch and tow beast extension bar. When loaded I put 80 lbs in the Air Lift Air bags. Tows well with my Ford F350 dually. Camper weighs 4000# and trailer with horses 10,000# Mileage drops from 16 to 12 mpg. With extension bar and camper that overhangs bumper be careful as box trailer can be a bit closer to camper than normal and camper jacks can engage trailer is one backs trailer with too much jack knife. The truck empty gets 20 mpg at 55 mph

RE: 2002 Lance 1061 Skirt Rot Repair

About the 1/8 luan.....when I rebuilt my Lance I found 1/8" special order through Lowes for $20. per sheet. I bought an extra sheet for future. Also Lowes sells door skins 36" that can also be used for the 1/8" luan. Hope this info helps

88lover... you just scared the******out of 99% of us... more that 2 wires and a ground is above our paygrade... thanks for posting your hints.. I'll get the grease in the correct spots. SWleepyThis is a 10 minute job. GB anti corrosion paste iss easily applied. The DC wires on your Lance come from the generator to the J Box through a flex conduit. Open the J box (2 screws) and you will see the 4 wires joined by wire nuts. Remove the nuts one at a time and squeeze a gob of GB then recap. Be sure to exercise your generator on a regular basis as repair parts are expensive. Control Boards $300, Inverter $950, Stator/rotor $1050. :E

I am with Sleepy on this one. I put a new service on my house by removing the meter but to hook up the panel I had to run some very short and very big wire between the meter and the panel I was VERY CAREFUL of my every move when I did this but I wasn't "scared" as I knew what I was doing. With what you described with the generator ..I think I would be nervous,but then I wouldn't know what I was doing either.The service is not difficult. But then I know how to screw in a light bulb. The service manual is very complete (so much so that a novice might skip through it). For instance: TEST 28 - DC LINK VOLTAGE TEST 1. Disconnect the 12-pin connector from the inverter. Disconnect the Red-Black-Blue-Green DC Link wires from the inverter. Note: Cap the DC Link wires with a wire nut for safety. 2. On units with A6060 circuit board revision ā€œDā€ or higher software, jump pin #10 to pin #11 on the 12-pin cable previously removed from the inverter. The 12 position cable should be connected to the 12-pin socket on the generator control panel. This will enable the generator to run with CB1 turned ON. 3. Turn CB1 to ON position. Start generator. The engine should run at approximately 3300 rpm. 4. Set VOM to DC. Measure DC Link voltage between the Red and Blue wires, place Red test lead to red wire and Black test lead to the Blue wire. DC voltage should be approximately 375 VDC. Measure DC link voltage between the Red wire and Black wire, place Red test lead to Red wire and Black test lead to Black wire, DC voltage should read +175 VDC. Measure DC link voltage between the Blue wire and the Black wire, place Red test lead to Blue wire and Black test lead to Black So in the above test one has a running generator with the control cable removed from the inverter and the J box on the inverter exposing the DC wires. Note that one could expect to measure 375V DC which would give a novice testing with a wet finger a problem. Since there are all kind of idiots and to protect from liability, that is why the Mfg cautions about service by competant service. The service manual makes intresting reading. The owners manual may be for most owners. I have both

don't be afraid....just careful. When testing DC voltage which can be done after opening the J box on the inverter the DC probes on your DVOM will show both positive and negative 187 volts DC. The service manual cautions that when doing some of the test, that these wires should be disconnected and capped when running the generator during test. Also to keep the generator running during the test very small jumper clips need to be available to jump a couple of control pins. The service manual is very detailed. A person using the manual to trouble shoot should have a little more than a rudimentary knowledge of electrical circuits. I was able to use the manual and through testing get my impact running properly again. Now I own 2 impact 36

One thing I wanted to add The grounding of the generator can cause the problem discribed. When hooked to shore power, the camper circuit is on a good ground but when hooked to generator only releys on the grounding of the generator circuits. The impact has 3 wire (black, white, green) That supply AC current from the inverter. The other sideof the inverter input are the DC wires which are (black,red,blue, green)that go back to the generator. All other wires between the inverter and the generator are control wires (2 wires between invertor and stator and 8 wires between control board and inverter). The generator has B+ and B- and the generator supplys battery charging. The DC wires themselves are connected to the generator through spade clips but these can only be accessed by removing the generator and opening up the shroud exposing the breakers and control board.

What model Generac is this? Your microwave is acting like a lot of today's electronic appliances act when you plug them into one of the cheap modified sine wave inverters. They don't like the wave form put out by them, and they won't work right. If your Generac is one of the inverter models (Impact?) the inverter could be putting out 120v AC, but with a ratty wave form that electronic equipment will balk at. Lights and motors usually won't care. I, or a few others on here who have Generacs may be able to help you find the service manual for your model. The inverter models aren't the easiest generator to diagnose, and some of the parts may cost more than you'll be willing to pay. The inverter models are surprisingly complex little beasts; they're actually a computer controlled generator that produces multiple AC voltages from the stator, the highest ones go through a bridge rectifier where they are changed to a DC voltage, which is then sent to a remotely mounted inverter, where it's changed back to 120v/60hz AC and sent to the 30amp receptacle you plug your shore power cord into. I think you're going to have to get the service manual for your generator and start going through the troubleshooting flow-charts. :):)If you need a service manual you can PM me and I can send you one in PDF format. I just installed a refurbished impact 36 in my camper because I did not want to be without a generator. I had to take my old generator out of the camper and set up a test bench to make repairs. My repairs were the need for a new control board as the temp sensing circuit had gone bad. One suggestion is that the impact had aluminum DC wires that go between the generator and the Inverter. For ease of install Lance cut these wires then reassembled the wires in a J Box in the generator compartment. Since aluminum is subject to corrosion, i suggest anyone with this situation open the J Box and put a gob of GB anti corrosion paste under each wire nut. Be careful when messing with the generator. The DC voltage is 187 volts and can kill. To work on this gen one needs a good DVOM minimum and also a amp probe. As of yet no where in any of the post do I see where a DVOM has been put in ANY AC circuit to measure actual AC voltage under Generator power. One could be getting 105V AC then when things like the Air conditioner compressor tries to kick in the generator stepper motor tries to speed up but still not enough AC is being produced. Until some actual measurements are taken, all the speculation is pointless

Silicone has a film that causes a mess. Even furniture polish that has silicone causes a film. Arm and Hammer washing soda will help remove the film.

Just an update, Thanks everybody for the help. The problem appears solved. I have replaced the control board with one salvaged by BillS and am no producing AC enough to run my pancake air compressor. By using GB anti corrosion on all of the connections the only note I can find is the inverter temp circuit is showing 8.5K ohms and according to the specs should show 10K ohms plus/minus 500K ohms. There may be a capicator degradiation due to age but I have learned...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it" The generac has aluminum wires and Lance cut the DC wires during instillation and then rejoined them with wire nuts in a J box inside the generator compartment. This area being exposed to the elements is open to corrosion so I would recommend that these wires be coated with GB which can be bought at Lowes or Home Depot. Also the control cable from the generator to the inverter which is 12 ft long has the pins crimped, I had a broken wire on pin 9 which was causing an intermittant connection. I was too cheap to purchase a new cable ($140) so I disassembled the cable and soldered the pins to the wires. There is a trick to disassembly and reassembly which I will share if anyone needs the know how. Again thanks to the forum and especially BillS and NRAlifer

There is a fellow on the Lance Owners web site that is very knowledgable on generators. He goes under Mowerman and is in the section on generators. http://lanceowners.infopop.cc/eve/forumsThe 7.5 amp fuse and holder and the DC wires in the Generac are aluminum. Suggest all Impact owners put a glob of GB anti oxident on the DC wires under the wire nuts and on the 7.5 Amp fuse. Both the 12 pin control wire and the remotes start wire ends can also be coated. The 12 pin plug contains 8 wires from the control board and 2 wires from the stator. They connect to a ribbon cable inside the generator that has 8 wires connecting to the control pannel. The start stop switch is a simple 3 position switch on the generator and is duplicated on the stove hood through a green,yellow,brown, black cable. The brown wire provides power to a little light at the stove to show GEN when power is being provided by the generator. The other 3 wires are start, stop, and ground. All of these wires are subject to corrosion as they are aluminum. On later model generators, Generac replaced many of these wires with copper as they had so many problems. Be sure to exercise your impact and look for poor grounds and corossion problems before giving up.

Hi I understand your issue----we tried several times on our 'US road trip' to get our generac working but finished up bringing to England not working------------------Just by chance(well I was phoning around to get it repared) I spoke to a guy who used to work on development at generac at the time mine was developed, he reckons he knows everything about the 'older' models ????!!!!-----------------well he said they are sooo complicated that he is the only person in UK who MAY be able to fix it !!!!--------------------------------------------------I am looking for a boat enthusiast who wants a unique anchor !!!!!!!!!!!! Nigel & Pamala----Spain I just swapped my Impact 36 out with another impact 36 I picked up cheap so I can work on mine with some time and not cut into my camper usage. I accidently broke the 15A circuit breaker and had a hard time finding one (Generac listed for $64.00 but i found the identical dual pole breaker from Blue Sky marine for $37. If you want to work on your generator, I have both the owners manual and the service manual in PDF form. You should have a knowledge of electrical circuits as this is a DC generaator and the DC current is changed to AC by a inverter which is located by Lance under the floor of the Dinette. DC current produced is 187 volts and can Kill. I did not find the service manual hard to follow....but then I had time to kill

I suggest you hang a amp probe on one leg of the 120v line going to the micro wave to see what it is drawing when running. There is always the possibility that your transfer switch which is under the sink has dirty contacts and making a resistance problem when drawing off the generator. Your generator has a stepper motor which speeds up the generator when a load iss placed on the generator. If you have a air conditioner, turn it on to get a load on the generator. if not plug in a small electric heater that draws about 12 amps and see if that works.. Also the DC wires in the generator are aluminum and they carry 187 volts. They are joined in the generator compartment with wire nuts. I suggest that you disconnect all power then apply some GB anti oxidation paste The easiest place to hang an amp probe is to have a little plug in device that has a probe circle but if you can't borrow one, you can open up a socket and hang the probe on one wire while the microwave is plugged in and started. cheap amp probes are available at Harbor Freight. They are poor quality but work well enough for a camper tool. Good luck

Right next to a large drop off is the kind of place you really don't want a locker. When you spin one tire you may have trouble moving forward and backward. When you spin both your rear axle will discover a new direction: sideways. I fould that out with our 1996 F-250 PSD SC 4X4 with rear limited slip the first time I drove it on black ice. With all the weight on the front axle, the torque of the turbo diesel and no weight over there rear axle; all that truck wanted to do was to swap ends. Like you said, with an open diff, one tire spins and looses traction, but the opposite side tire rolls along keeping the rear end straight. With limited slip, both loose traction and the truck wants to naturally move the heavy end to the rear and lite end to the front. :E :E :E I don't remember what I did to get out but I do remember losing about a gallon of sweat and had some stained underwear. I am sure glad I had a 4X4 with a low range and the diesel got me out with very low rpm. I should have gotten some local knowledge before venturing into the unknown. After I got out I explored on foot. I have front and rear air lockers on my jeep and they are great for getting places that would be impossible with open diffs. But there are times when lockers work against you, so if you are going to have lockers, selectable lockers are the way to go. Brad

A couple of years ago, I was off the beaten track in Kansas and went about 20 miles off the interstate to some ancient cliffs. I had my 4000 # Lance on board and I got stuck in a mud puddle on the track that had me parallel to a 100 ft drop off and I could not get out of the driver side to see what was wrong. Even in low 4X4 creeper gear the duallies just slid and I was wishing that I had a lock differential. I was not sure what I was up against and from the look of the track, I doubt if the area was visited frequently. The vista was spectacular and after doing a little wheel rocking and brow mopping managed to get out. After that incident, I decided not to venture down a canyon wall trail just past the ranger station in Canyonlands National Park that led to the Canyon bottom. I love back country but some times it may be best to go on foot.

In my Lance, there is no floor to the compartment. On later model Lance campers I believe they use Onan Camp power generators so that may be something different. If you have an impact 36 by Generac then possobly some one installed a floor to make a compartment for storage. Please verify then PM me as I have the PDF file owners manual that has the install instructions and the parts list.

The camper needs to be raised on it's jacks to it's highest point then the generator (80 lbs) must be placed on a floor jack and the jack raised as high as it can go. The jack will fit under the fan shroud.....but the generator will not balance due to the muffler protrusion. A helper is necessary to balance and guide the generator as one slowly lowers the camper until the brackets are near the same level. A small flat pry bar is helpful as the tolerances are close to clear the regulator. Also the harness should be connected and the DC wires conduit needs to be twisted in place as the camper is lowered. The holes in the brackets are difficult to line up so a drift pin tool will help. Also the 9/16 bolts have to be in perfect alignment and screwed down....but I used a high speed diamond rasp to slightly make the holes a little bigger to ease the job. The nuts are locknuts which will take forever to screw up manually. Your helper has to put a box wrench on the bolt heads while the nuts are placed from the bottom. Also when you place the inverter, Lance located this part under the dining room floor and the DC wires and harness enter the generator compartment through the metal wall that can be accessed by removing the fire extinguisher and it's housing. Do not cut or shorten the 12 pin harness which is 12 ft long in any way but the DC wires can be cut to a more sutable length PM me if you need more specific help

Impact 36 generator swap out

I just swapped out my Impact 36 LPG generator in my Lance with a reconditioned one as I did not want to be without a generator while I repaired my old one which is running but only intermittantly putting out AC current. I would like to share my experience with anyone with a Lance that will help in doing repairs. The Impact 36 is a DC generator which converts DC to AC with a sine wave inverter. Lance puts this inverter under the floor in the dinette. The 10 control wires that go between the inverter and the generator go through a 12 pin plug and this 12ft cable can be accessed by removing the fire extinguisher housing. The 4 DC wires from the inverter to the generator also go through the same route but separate and go into a square J box inside the gen compartment. These entry points are sealed with gobs of RTV. The inverter itself is held down with 3 1" screws. The generator is mounted on mounting plates held in place with 8 9/16 bolts and locknuts that require deep well socket to access. The lock nuts are difficult to remove so I recommend using (I did) an air impact wrench. DO NOT REMOVE the generator from it's rubber motor mounts. The tail pipe is held in place with a couple of muffler brackets and it is attached to the muffler with an adapter that has a 5/16 set screw. Since the muffler protrudes the bottom of the generator, the only flat area to support the generator during removal is by placing a floor jack under the fan shroud which means the generator will not be centered and must be balanced by a helper person while the camper is raised off of it's mounting brackets. Before removal of the generator remove the control cables, remote start, and DC wires. Also be sure that the generator does NOT hang up on the regulator protruding screws or circuit breakers as the camper is raised. The removal of the battery cables requires a 11mm box wrench and I suggest that one purchase 3/8" plugs to seal the LPG line to generator and the generator it's self when removed. For testing one needs to have a digital volt/Ohm multimeter capable to read below 0.9 ohms, DC voltage of 187 volts (can kill) and 120 V AC. One also needs to have a couple of tiny jumper clips. Since the generator weighs about 80 lbs a floor jack is a must and I suggest the following tools: 1. SAE and MM box/openend wrenches 2. Air wrench 3. phillips /st blade screw driver power 4. wire strippers, knife, Ice pick, tapered drift pin, high speed metal rasp,flat pry par 5. wooden support box about 19" square and 6" deep for test bench mount. 6. LPG (barbacue type)hose/regulator and 3' of battery cables for bench. 7. A helper (this is a 2 man job)
