RE: One for the weight police - off topic

My guess is that they had the truck too far down in the ditch when they loaded the taurus in the back of it. Noticed that they didn't get the car sitting on the bed of the truck evenly.

RE: Drop on a bed of a truck when your fifth wheel jacks are up.

Mine goes down a lot more than two inches on a one ton. I am carrying about 2300# of pin weight from a 13000# fifth wheel. I think mine goes down at least 4" before it rests on the overloads. After having everything weighed out by RVSEF at a rally they said I'm in good shape as far as weight on truck and fifth wheel. They are the real experts at determining everything about weights in RVing.

RE: National fishing license

I would think there would be an enormous interest by seniors who like fishing and the money generated -although maybe not as much for each license- would add up to a pretty tidy sum for each state. I do respect the states right to set their own rules and regulations because they know best how to regulate their own wildlife and to protect their own environment. I would think this would be a huge benefit to some states that most people don't think of as offering quality fishing.

RE: National fishing license

I would think the states could split the proceeds of a national fishing license. I wouldn't expect to get a license for free and even if one license cost more than an individual state license it would be nice to be able to get one that allows you to fish in Fl. in the winter and Mn. or Idaho in the summer. The main benefit I could see for a national license would be if you were traveling through many different states and would like to stop and try fishing in many different lakes or rivers.

RE: Closed under bellies and rodents

I don't understand why some of the first answers were allowed to this post. It makes you wonder about if there is a minimum age for people to be able to post answers on here. I just feel like if somebody asks a legitimate question on here they should get decent answers to those questions. Even if the question doesn't concern me like "what did you do to your truck camper today". I respect the persons right to ask questions about what interests them. Who knows-- you might have the same questions some day and do you want to read through a bunch junk to get to the answer your looking for.

National fishing license

Is anybody besides me trying to get a National fishing license law passed in this election year. I would like to see a National fishing license available to seniors 65 and older where we can fish in any state with just one license.

RE: Surge protectors?

The low voltage that some of these surge guards protect you from is what does the most damage to your appliances. Especially the appliances that have a motor in them. I'm betting that in the case of a huge surge of electricity that something else will fail before it gets to the expensive appliances. We had a close strike in our mobile home one time and saw the flash jump from the range hood down to the corner of the range. All it did was burn out the fan switch for the range hood.

RE: How many miles on your 7.3 PSD?

Hi. Assuming you purchase the truck used. And assuming you have maintained it. Have you ever had a fuel delusion check preformed on the crankcase oil? With 220,000 miles it maybe time to check the oil. I have seen where people have their oil analyzed for various reasons. Is there one particular lab that they deal with? I would think you would have to contact them to find out how they want the oil handled, shipping, and cost, etc. I keep a very close eye on the oil and never see any fluctuation in the level and what I would think would be normal break down of the oil. What I mean is when it is fresh it is naturally cleaner and slicker than after 5000 miles.

Are you calling my styrofoam board by the proper name or something?

RE: How to get wife to relax

Get rid of bills! Don't worry about reunions, kids, who shot John or what's on tv. Throw away the clock. Buy a Pontoon boat and let her take you fishing. How ironic, my wife wants to buy a pontoon boat and fish all the time now. I had quit fishing for a few years, I would fish and she would read a book. Now she loves fishing and I enjoy it again. It sure feels odd to buy fishing tackle now that she is taking an interest in it.

RE: packrats attack

Wish I could help more but it looks to me that those who said to put repellents out would be the best answer-- moth balls and dryer sheets and such. After that you might have to use something metal to cover the bottom of the trailer. Most animals that gnaw their way in won't gnaw on anything metal. I would try to drive them out before I sealed up the holes. Joraz sounds he has a handle on the problem.

RE: How to get wife to relax

We went to Yellowstone the first trip after I retired. I found out that she is afraid of the scenic view type of roads. We left Yellowstone by the northwest exit because it wasn't as steep and swung back around through Montana. I would love to go out to Yellowstone again and beyond because there is still so much more to see in the North West. But on the other hand I understand what it is like to have a phobia and that you have to want to do something really strongly before you can do it and overcome the phobia. I used to be afraid of flying-I just couldn't relax. I had to take an anxiety pill to fly to Hawaii and again to Cancun but now flying doesn't bother me. I think I was as afraid of not being in control as I was of the altitude.

RE: Washing my 5ver

I wash the whole thing-top to bottom with- Totally Awesome from the Dollar Tree. It costs $1 a bottle and I had some guy that told me that my fifth wheel "looked newer or that I must wash it more than he does his". I wash it when we tow 950 miles to Fl. in the winter and when we get home to Il. in the spring and maybe in the fall. I do use Tedfords black streak and bug remover on the front if the tar and bugs won't come off with the Awesome.

How many miles on your 7.3 PSD?

I have 220,000 on my 2000 F350 and have been towing a 13,000# fifth wheel for the last 50,000 miles. The fifth wheel weighs 10,600# empty and is rated for 14,000#. I saw the post about boosting the hp and wondered how many miles others have been towing and how many miles total.

RE: Are window frames made of steel and magnetic?

I went to Menards and bought the 1/2" pink insulation board. it is made out of styrofoam. I cut the sides to fit snug and the length a few inches long. I used a coffee can to trace and mark and cut the top radii. I slip the pink board up inside the window frame and pull the day-night shades down over them. I haven't had one slip out of place yet. I only do the smaller windows 3'x4' and less. you can really tell the difference in the living room slide out and the bedroom when it gets below 40* outside. The whole trailer stays warmer and the furnace doesn't run as much. I just leave the big back window natural and don't feel any draft there because the big windows are a good source of light and something to look out of. It is easy to find square pieces of foam rubber that fit in the ceiling vents and they stay up very well if they are a little oversized.

RE: Maybe not meant to go!

When my truck broke down I got on the computer and looked up the symptoms and new what was wrong with it before the dealer called the next morning. The diesel truck sites are pretty good and I don't think there is a problem you could have that somebody hasn't had already.

RE: 4 Cut Tires

Sometimes it is just a matter of maybe your property wasn't as well lit as others. Usually the kind of cowards who damage other peoples property aren't real deep thinkers. I hope you don't have too much trouble getting everything fixed up. I had a car stripped one time when we lived in the country and had to leave it near the top of the driveway because we were having a blizzard and the snow was too deep to drive all the way down to the house. I was young and going to school while trying to raise a family. I bought parts from a salvage yard and the cheapest tires I could get for what the insurance paid for.

RE: Backing Up to Engage Hitch

Thanks for the tip I will try that. I have a hard time judging when the pin is centered to the hitch, even looking back, and I can see where the mirror would straighten the line of sight better. Trying to adjust, side to side just doesn't work for me when I am getting close to the hitch. It's either centered or it's pull up and try again. My Reese 18K has to be pretty close because it has the single finger, on the one side that wraps around and that makes the slot a little tighter.
