RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

D, how's the renovation project on the '67 coming along?
We stopped working on the Avion in February to get another construction project out of the way. I hope to be finished with that by Mid May or thereabouts. I actually went and picked up the Corian for the counter tops today so they'll be ready to go.
The good news is that I am ever hopeful of getting the Avion on the road. The bad news is that my sweet Jane says we're not traveling anywhere - nohow until the Avion is finished and ready to go. No planes trains or automobiles. Speech delivered while stamping foot.
So, I've definitely got my motivation.

RE: Tire Pressure on Beach and Desert

Hi Larry,
I learned a while ago there are no stupid questions on this forum, thank goodness...
The WRT is also know as the White Rim Trailclicky
You'll find a lot of strings on this site from TCs that have navigated this tough Utah challenge.
Surfrat that is a really sweet install. I was having trouble visualizing how the pump was attached to the frame and was also curious about the wiring set up. Many thanks for the photos.

On the question of the bezels. I think the more polished rivets the better! Go for it.

RE: points of interest florida to canada

Hey gbopp you overlooked the site of the Johnstown Flood that killed thousands and Happy Valley where Joe Paterno used to coach in your proposed Pennsylvania tragedy tour. No doubt Gaetan would head with relief to the Yuengling Brewery and drown his sorrows : )

RE: Retro trucks for restored TC's...?

I think these would look neat on some of the older smaller TC's that folks out there are restoring:
I think you have a point, though its hard to figure how the TC's would ride on the Forward Control, for instance. But there is no doubt that a C-10 Avion would look good as a rig. Maybe next year Jeep will consider taking an Avion and making it part of their concept cars in Moab.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

Great news. We'll soon have a bakers dozen of Avion/Cayos on this thread. I was wondering what year this C11 was built, and are the vents OEM?
Update: I just read your notes on the Airstream Forum and I am really impressed with your breadth of knowledge and skill. You are a really welcome addition to our string.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

Its seldom, I think, that members of a Forum thank a moderator for anything other than stamping out a flame war. But you, Wayne, and the other moderators do much more to make this an uncommonly friendly and informative site. I remain in awe of the knowledge base of the members, and their collective generosity...all of which is a compliment to you and the gentle herding that you and the other mods apply.
Now, I hope to finish up the rebuild by early summer - with glorious photos and a champagne launch. Then its on to enjoying the open road.

I haven't stopped in for a while. Luckily, our construction/housing business is going full steam. But, What a job you're doing.I'll bet you're on the road before we get old 67 Avion running. Congrats.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

I'm looking for the "Avion" name plates that are front and rear in big chrome and orange paint. Also the Bargman back door knob assembly and grab handle just to the right of the door. Maybe one of the jacks if it is good shape. I will try to snap some pics in the daylight. Thank you very much! Anyone else looking for parts of any kind?
I went out to the Avion yesterday and talked to the owner. There's good news and bad news. The good news is that he's decided to restore the camper. The bad news is that he doesn't want to get rid of any of the parts.

RE: Avion camper rebuilds - dozens of photos

There's a C-11 on the outskirts of town that I spotted some time ago, that has been severely damaged by a storm. I'll try to stop by and see if the owner is interested in selling some of the parts. Let me know exactly what you are missing or need. Photos would help.

Great work. I am especially interested in the window repair. In the not so distant future I want to swap out the old windows...in the meantime I want my windows to be waterproof.

Some would say your brilliant reports are the "next best thing" to being there. I'm beginning to think they are better than being there. To experience the trips through your eyes is a pleasure and a privilege.

RE: The government

OK. I really understand the concern that it will be all venting all the time. I get it. But still there has to be a way to be a way to talk about these issues in the context of this community. Or at least I think so.
Perhaps I'm wrong. That somehow we open the door to extreme political positions or oddballs or worse. But, isn't that the thing that makes this Forum so unique? Is it possible that the comments will be thoughtful and insightful? Is it possible that we will learn what this community holds dear?

The government

I hesitate to breach the Forum rules: "Political and religious posts, pictures, links, signatures etc. are not allowed in these forums and may be removed without notice or discussion."
I think, overall, these are wise and reasonable.
However, it is clear to me that much of what we face as a community is a result of increasing governmental regulation, such as the post from North Carolina, "OBX TC Challenges". Or, alternatively, the governmental mandates that increase the complexity and costs of diesel and gas engines.
Then there is the possibility of $5 a gallon gas/diesel that we may face this driving season. That's governmental policy too.
All of these things, collectively, are causing enormous hardships to our community and to the manufacturers of TCs, the auto industry and the tourism industry.
How would it be possible, under the rules of the Forum, to discuss what I think of as the fundamental issues that we face?
In my opinion our entire community is under threat, and we have no way, in this Forum, of carefully sorting it out.

RE: OBX TC Off Road Challenges

It's been a long road to get to this point - where the various levels of government seem intent on fencing out the American people. It sure has happened here in Illinois as the Department of Natural Resources was gutted in order to shift funds to the corrupt politician's constituencies. Campgrounds are closed, boating is not allowed, and this magnificent resource is almost off limits. I don't want to break the rules of this forum and get into a political discussion, but the reality is that it is a political process that has gotten us to this point. We need to take the government back.

RE: which tv for tc to buy

Good questions and answers. I have been looking for a 12V TV/DVD that folds up under the counter. I've seen them in the past inside tractor trailer trucks, but am unsure what brand, etc. Don't know if the OP has something like this in mind or not.

RE: 1958 noncabover Alaskan

I used to have an Alaskan. Beautiful camper, innovative hydraulic lift, but very, very prone to leakage and wood rot. This one looks pretty rough, and I doubt that it is worth $500. But then, you actually have to go and take a look to be sure. Here is a site where they list Alaskans (I think this is current). click
