RE: Michelin Ribs OK past 6 Yrs

My Michelin Ribs were made in Feb 2006. They still look like new, no cracks almost no wear with approx 37000 miles. Guess I'll try to make one more hot Texas summer and then decide what to do next spring. We travel 3 - 4 months per year then it's in the shed the rest of the year. Thanks for the tip about 10 years for Ribs. I'll Google it.

Michelin Ribs OK past 6 Yrs

Just called Discount Tire and he said Michelins typically are OK past 6 years. Said 6 years is beginning of danger zone, and they will not work on any tire older than 10 yrs. Said look for cracks; I have none; it has been in a shed when not used. Said he would be worried about a cheaper tire at 6 yrs, but not a Michelin as they use only the best material and mfg methods, so do not dry out as fast as cheaper tires. He was really talking me out of buying new tires. So, do I get rid of Michelin Ribs that look brand new, or chance another year or two? Getting older; sure don't need any of those Goodyear G type explosions I used to get before wising up to Michelins.

RE: Now I need a knee replacement.

Wife loves to garden but knees felt uncomfortable when kneeling after knee replacement. I bought some gel filled knee pads at Lowes, that flooring workers use, and she can kneel in the flower beds again.

RE: Freeze Scrambled Eggs???

Yes, the eggs etc would be inside a baked yeast bun, like char siu bao or a runza. Guess I'll just try it. Been having a lot of fun with yeast bread lately. Looking to branch out.

RE: Freeze Scrambled Eggs???

You're missing the point. It will take me an entire day to mix up dough, let it rise, encapsulate the filling in a bun, let it rise again, then bake; to make the kind of breakfast buns I have in mind. Yes, I could scramble the eggs each morning, then do the buns. Might get on the road by 8 PM that night. Yes I could do something simpler. Could just eat peanut butter and crackers three times a day like in college. Just trying to have fun now.

Freeze Scrambled Eggs???

Will reheated scrambled eggs be gross? I've been making char siu bao, a Chinese bbq pork bun and freezing them. They're excellent reheated in the microwave. So, I've been thinking; scramble some eggs, make hash browns, mix it all with some cheese, and use that for filling in the buns. I would freeze these and thaw in the microwave for quick breakfast on the road. I know all will freeze and reheat well, except maybe the eggs. I could also do burritos for something different.

RE: Pink Slime

I did some reading on the internet. Pink slime apparently was approved in 1991 over the objections of FDA scientists who thought it should not go into the human food chain. The woman who was head of FDA at the time, and who overruled her scientists, left in 1993 and was appointed to the board of the company who invented the product. Has been drawing a big salary (for probably little work) ever since. Also, that company was very proud of spraying ammonia on the product to kill ecoli. The government was so impressed that they approved spraying any ground meat product with ammonia to kill ecoli. Maybe that explains why my ground meat has been stinking for years when I cook it. Whether it has pink slime in it or not. So, I have ordered a meat grinder. I'll grind up steaks or roasts when I want ground meat.

RE: Does HD Satellite TV require RG6?

OK, I'm the original poster. My house has some runs of 60 feet or more to the furthermost bedrooms. I think I want to get the RG59 out and install RG6 throughout. Who might do this? (Not me) An electrician? Or some specialist?

Does HD Satellite TV require RG6?

I phoned Directv and told them I had RG59 wiring throughout the house and they said no problem, they could use that. I thought RG6 coaxial was required for HD satellite, right? Especially if you want a DVR. I'm guessing it won't be satisfactory if I don't get RG6 throughout.

RE: Snake Another Coxial, Roku Box, or What?

I'm pretty clueless on Roku; just know it's wireless. Does it get stuff like Fox news, history channel, cooking channel, animal planet, weather channel, etc? Or is it just for watching movies; don't watch movies much. It comes over your computer internet, right? What about when travelling and RV park has lousy wifi? Again, I'm pretty clueless, so maybe dumb questions. Oh, I read your blog and see that you do need a reliable high speed internet connection. That kills it for us as we want to use it in the RV too; so many wifis are lousy. Yeah, I've given some thought to tying a cord to the current coaxial, pulling it up into the attic, tying two coaxials to the cord and pulling it back down into the TV/internet area. Figure I'd probably screw it up and end up with no coaxial cable at all.

RE: Pink Slime

I have a large kitchen aid mixer. Don't use it anymore as it is so big, counter space, heavy, etc. Maybe I should drag it out and get the attachment for it? I had been looking at some stand alone electric meat grinders; thinking easier to clean and store. Oh, I did go to McDonalds and order one of their Angus half pound burgers the other day, since I heard they don't use pink slime. The meat did smell and taste better.

RE: Snake Another Coxial, Roku Box, or What?

OK, I watched the video. My cable has to come down from the attic. Guess I can find the fiberglass rods and drill bit at Lowes. I'm a little worried about chewing up the existing coaxial cable as I drill, but it probably is not in the corner as the drill bit will be. Shoot, I thought the Roku box might be a majic wand for me. I'll first try to charm the Directv guy to do it, but I'm guessing he won't.

Snake Another Coxial, Roku Box, or What?

We're going to Directv in the stick home, but want to keep our cable based internet. My problem is that there is only one cable where I need the internet modem and a TV set. So I guess I need to snake another cable in there, one for my cable based internet and another to carry the Directv signal in to the TV. Is this possible? It is an interior wall, so I guess not filled with insulation. Or should I use something like a Roku box? Don't they sent wireless signals to a TV?

RE: Pink Slime

I'll ask our Brookshires grocery if they will grind a roast for me. Really don't want to buy a grinder and fool with cleaning/storing it. Maybe it's just my memory; hamburgers used to smell and taste so good; not any more.

RE: Pink Slime

We're in a semi rural area and have had two or three butcher shops try to put in. They are good at first, then they start cutting corners to make ends meet, then they finally go out of business. When they get to the almost broke stage, I trust them less than Walmart.

RE: Pink Slime

I've seen the list of stores that do not accept pink slime. Unfortunately, none of them operate in our area. I grew up on a farm. We butchered our own pork and beef, cut our own steaks, ground our own sausage, etc. It was a little gross, but it didn't stink and it wasn't filthy. Dad took great care to see that none of the intestines touched any of the meat --- cut the head off, remove the esophagus, cut out around the anus, never ever puncture the intestines, then dump all the intestines into a #3 wash tub (us boys carried it way downwind in the pasture for the buzzards to feast) --- then wash out the body cavity with fresh well water. So don't tell me butchering has to be filthy. My wife has turned with colitis, a very difficult problem, and sometimes I wonder if it has to do with some of this stuff they add to the meat to make it weigh more.

Pink Slime

My wife about has me sworn off ground beef. According to news investigations, a lot of the meat companies are grinding up waste meat, fat, blood, etc that used to be discarded, and injecting it back into the ground beef. They have to treat it with a chemical to kill harmful bacteria. I have noticed that I don't like hamburger patties like I used to, and that the meat stinks when I start browning it for chili, etc. I'm about ready to buy a grinder and just grind my own hamburger out of roasts.

Dental Bridgework

My wife needs to have a four front teeth bridge replaced and we are having a hard time finding out who is good/bad in our area. We know this will be extremely expensive and a real ordeal, but we are prepared to pay. However we don't want to go through all this and end up with a lousy bridge. We've asked all our acquaintances; no luck. My question is general; how do you find out about the real abilities of people like dental surgeons? I can't find any blogs or real personal experience advice for our area. Of course all the dental surgeons say they are the greatest, best, etc. I suspect legal fears keep people from stating their real opinions online. Thanks in advance; this is a big decision for us.

Directv Bundles ---- Phone, Internet OK?

I'm going from cable to Directv. They offer a bundle including phone and internet service. Does anyone know how satisfactory these services are? How about long distance calling, how does this tie in with cell phone services, can you keep your existing phone #, etc? Is the internet service they supply as fast as cable internet?

Autonet ---- Switch On/Off for a Month??

Wifi in a lot of campgrounds is really bad. Canyon Vistas here in Gold Canyon can't even support Google maps it is so overloaded. Has anyone tried using Autonet just for a month or two per year; switch on/off; don't pay full years monthly fees?
