RE: replacing siding on 2007 superlite 2300

I'm curious as to where the water was coming in to cause the rot. Could you see it from the inside, or were there other indicators?
Sorry I can't help you on where to get the siding. I'm sure someone here will chime in. You may also search on the "Travel Trailer" forums as they will have the same problem.

RE: OUCH$$$ Fuel station pump

Either way, a new pump will be less than $300 and is easy to install yourself. My first failure was the swollen gears issue, but since my trailer was in for service anyway, I had it replaced under warranty. The new pump failed after 6 months. I thought it was the gears and didn't want to take it in. I popped the cover and found the gears to be just fine. I removed the pump and took it apart on my bench and found that one of the magnets inside the brush assembly had grenaded. I buttoned it up and took it to the dealer who sent it back to the manufacturer who replaced it under their warranty. They even shipped it back to me so I didn't have to drive to the dealer.
Do the work yourself. It's one of the easier things to fix on your rig.

RE: Fuel spill and now c02 alarm won't stop

Well I eventually got the alarm to stop going off before heading out. However, the second day in the desert it started going off again... all windows and doors were open and nothing was running. I fixed it with a pair of wire cutters. I'll replace it next weekend. Might just get a battery powered unit from Lowes like someone else suggested.

I assume you just disconnected yours and replaced it?

RE: Fuel spill and now c02 alarm won't stop

I've got it opened up. The smell is hardly noticable, but the CO2 alarm keeps going off. I'm not a chemist, but do gas fumes equal CO2 and make that alarm go off?

Fuel spill and now c02 alarm won't stop

So I screwed up at the end of the last trip and didn't shut off the petcock on my bike. It has a slow leak (stuck float valve) that dripped onto the floor (I always have cardboard under the bikes). Anyway, I brought the trailer home and discovered the problem and resulting smell. I've taken the bikes out, as well as the cardboard. I cleaned the floor w/ simple green and have had a fan running for the last hour or so to air it out. The Co2 alarm has been going off and I have to kill power to reset it, but after a while it starts going again. I'm assuming it's the gas fumes setting it off as I have the propane turned off and the generator isn't in use. I'm hooked up to shore power to run the fridge. Any ideas on how I can kill the fumes quicker (short of lighting a match and going hauler shopping)? If I don't get this thing smelling good I'll have a whole weekend of whining from the wife! Help!

RE: Turkey, how are you cooking it while camping this year?

We are also headed to Ocotillo tomorrow. Ours will be a trash-can turkey. Buddy does it and it tastes great! We'll be doing the sides tonight before we leave and just heat everything up. Supposed to rain on Thursday, so could be interesting!

RE: Do Not get caught!

Actually they do provide training on smog equipment systems. While the CHP does no check for smog, they do check for OEM smog equipment. Any aftermarket stuff related to smog must have a CARB EO number tag or stamp on the product, or a sticker on the firewall stating that product meets CARB standards. The CHP, or any other cop for that matter, can stop you for something as simple as loud exhaust (CVC 27150(a)). Once the stop is made, the inspection begins. If the CHP officer finds a single piece of equipment that is non-CARB compliant, then he can cite you and send you to the BAR for a COMPLETE vehicle inspection. Missing cats will also get you a trip to the BAR.
The CHP and other agencies do train on these topics.

RE: Do Not get caught!

To piggy back on what that guy just said, the CHP Commercial Enforcement officer (they typically drive the pickups) probably know more about your diesel pickup than you do. They don't just focus on big-rigs. If they stop you for speeding, they have the authority to do a vehicle inspection (not a "search") for any equipment violations and that includes the authority to pop the hood to check for CARB EO numbers.
They are also the ones who are hot to pop people for towing their 40' fivers w/out a Class A non-com.

RE: What tires are you running

My WW FB1900 had "C" rated tires on it when I got it that were TransAmerica or something like that. I just put on the "D" rated Maxxis tires that I got from America's Tire. Just got back from a 10 day trip to Yellowstone and back w/ stops all along the way. No problems whatsoever. I don't remember the weight tolerances on them (trailer is not here) but I had doubts about my rims working w/ the higher PSI "E" rated tires and 16" rims aren't in my plans.
I went w/ America's Tire for their warranty and locations near most of the places I go. Had to order them as they don't stock them at my local dealer.

RE: South OC, CA service / think i'm in need of contraception

I live in SOC as well, I use a guy called roadman mobile tire 909-641-3232 and he comes to you, last March he came out and installed 6 maxxis LRE tires mounted and balanced, repacked my bearings and installed new grease seals on my fs3000 WW
paid cash and it only cost me 890.00 he beats anyones prices on tires and like I said he brings his mobile tire shop to you. He also sells tires on ebay.
I'll have to keep that in mind for next time. I just bought 5 new Maxxis Tires from America's Tire Co. I wanted their warranty as they have stores in most of the western states I travel in. My neighbor had their warranty on all 6 of his tires and he got his money's worth on the warranty. Unfortunately they don't do brakes.
When I picked up my trailer from El Toro RV I questioned their pricing and seemingly doubling up on labor. They wouldn't budge and said it was an industry standard labor rate and time for the job. I should have done the brakes myself instead of paying for the convenience.
So, lesson learned. EL TORO RV does not get my referral and I would steer anyone away from them.

RE: South OC, CA service / think i'm in need of contraception

Well I wasted too much time and too many things need to be done before I head out on my big trip, so I took it to El Toro RV Service in Irvine (Sand Canyon / 5).
They're hitting me for about $250+ to do the bearings and brake inspection. They called me to say that my front brakes on the right side are cracked and in need of replacement. They said I would need to replace both sides (front only) at a cost of $352 for parts and labor. I told him I thought I was being robbed and he said that's a going rate for the RV industry. I asked if that was on top of the $250 for the bearings and inspection and he said "yes".
At that point I should have told him to skip the brakes and finish the axles. I should have then waited for them to call me to pick it up and then request the brake work done at the quoted rate. I think it's shady that I have to pay full labor for a job that's already part way complete (tires and drums removed for inspection as part of the bearing job).
Anyway, I'm going to discuss that with them when I pick it up. This will be my last time I pay for the convenience of a local shop.
Am I wrong to think that those prices are high?

RE: South OC, CA service / think i'm in need of contraception

I have used orange trailer repair many times and they have always done a great job. Someone on this site recommended them and I have been pleased. They have a mobile service also that will come out to your trailer even in storage which I have used mainly. They are welding a bracket on my WW as we speak. Number is 8662927486.
What type of bracket are you getting welded? I'm thinking of having a hitch receiver mounted to the back of my WW to put a bike rack on for non-toy hauling trips (I don't like having to unload bikes every time we stop for the night).

South OC, CA service / think i'm in need of contraception

I'm looking for someone in South Orange County to do brake and bearing work on my 2-axle hauler. Does anyone have any recommendations? I've used El Toro RV before but felt the pricing was a little high and a little Jiffy-Lube'ish (you know, while you're here your flux-capacitor looks worn...). I'd do the work myself, but since I'm the "Pro" in "procrastinate" I'm running out of free time before my upcoming vacation.
This is the year for tires, bearings, and brakes. I'm going w/ Maxxis tires, but the tire folks don't mess w/ RV brakes or bearings.
Thanks for any help!
