RE: One goodie you save just for camping/trips?

My neighbor had a little goodie he saved for solo camping trips. Unfortunately for him, his wife found out about her... :S

RE: Dutchman brand? Any good?

We bought our 18B in 2007 and have had no problems at all. We compared many TTs at an RV show and the Dutchmen was much more solidly built than other comparably priced/sized TTs.

RE: whats your career?

USAF for 24 years, first as crew chief on fighter jets, then as a cardiopulmonary lab tech. Now I'm a respiratory therapist, which can be interesting at high altitude.

RE: You know you're getting old when.......

you go out to do a quick job on the car, and when you sit down you sit on your keys because you put your sweat pants on backwards! (Mrs O says she's going to write that one on the calender!) I do that, and am pleased becuse it means I remembered my pants this time...

RE: I love camping

If I had to narrow it down to one moment, it would be after we're leveled, set up, the site is in shape (firewood/chairs, etc.) and I sit in my chair, put up my feet and open something cold to drink.

RE: Easy 1st Trip to Colorado Recommendations

We have now upgraded our TV to the point where I can consider a trip to the more hilly, mountainous terrain areas and am looking for some recommendations to break a novice in to this type of towing experience. There are many areas I want to go however some of them seem pretty intimidating when watching videos, pictures, reading stories...etc. So basically Million Dollar Highway is OUT at this time. We live in Kansas City metro area so likely quickest route would be to take I-70 to CO and then from there pretty much open to recommendations. Would like to keep it to the western side of the state (just looking for a 4-5 day trip with at least 2 of them parked at the final destination to enjoy some R&R. Thanks in advance. One of the easier spots to get to would be Leadville then to Buena Vista (about 30 miles south on Rt24) Possible to do Rt 92 -- Independence Pass -- over to Maroon Bells - so much to see and do in the area Twin Lakes - Arkansas River - Collegiate Peaks - 4X4 trails and many just gravel roads with scenery to die for. Turquoise Lake - Quincy's for steak dinner - I could go on and on. This will give you a taste of the mountains without making it to difficult. BOL, If the Million Dollar Highway is out of the question, Independence Pass (Hwy 82) would be way out. Otherwise, I agree that the Leadville/Buena Vista area would be a good introduction to Colorado. Limit yourself to 4-5 days and you'll be wishing for more. Happy camping!

RE: Share your favorite primative Colorado Campground

My favorite spot? It's classified; I'd tell ya but then I'd have to kill ya... ;) We're planning to go back to Silverjack at least once this summer, hope it doesn't get too crowded now.

RE: Fun Words!

Gazinta. It's any of those leftover plastic tubs with lids, like for margarine or Cool Whip. When it's empty you wash it, keep it, and it's what leftover food "goes inta." Gazinta.

RE: Extra deadbolt

Thanks, Don, that option looks like it would work. I know how flimsy the door really is and don't imagine anyone will ever try to get in anyway (except maybe a bear or two), but DW has an active imagination so if I put in a token lock it will make her feel better and I won't be camping alone. Now I just hope she doesn't read these boards... ;) I'd love to just get another dog but that's not an option right now. Thanks for all the input.

Extra deadbolt

Has anyone out there put an extra deadbolt in their TT's door? Our guard dog passed away this winter and DW would like a little more security when we camp this summer. Does anyone sell a kit for this? I'd hate to have to do all the camping by myself this year... Thanks!

RE: Diesel clatter in the campgrounds

People talk about generators being loud...diesel trucks and motorhomes are far worst in my opinion. There's the need to rev it up like its not loud enough. And then those that come in after dark definitely get attention. Was stayin Myrtle Beach las year and was in bed and sometime around 11pm or midnight, I was woken up by the sound of a DP backing into the site next to us. And then it sat there idling while they set up/leveled the beast. If the guy didn't look like a linebacker, i would of said something the next day...lol Plus he had very hot wife...that made it all better. He looked like a linebacker and you took his wife's temperature? I'm impressed...

RE: Is Reading Better Than TV?

The OP makes a valid point, gave me something to ponder. It does occur to me, however, that I've never looked at someone reading a book and thought, "I wish he'd turn that thing down."
