RE: Getting ready to go full time!!! Where to winter?

We have wintered in the Rio Grande Valley, Alabama Gulf coast, and Arizona. Our preference is Arizona because the weather is fabulous. With some research, you should be able to find something in your price range -- or look for a workamping job. You work a few hours a week in exchange for a site.
If you aren't familiar with workamping, just Google it and you will see it is a huge industry. There are websites that list job openings such as office and registration, maintenance, housekeeping, kitchen work, pool work, camp host, tour guides, nature preserves, visitor's centers, lighthouses, national parks, state parks and on and on... Check out the forum here for workamping information, too.
Most jobs are just an exchange of hours for site, but some jobs pay wages too. Summer jobs are much easier to find than winter jobs because they are more plentiful.
Workamping can allow you to stay at 5 star resorts for "free."
Enjoy fulltiming -- it is a wonderful life.

RE: Newmar, Monaco, American Coach

We have owned two Newmar products - a Kountry Star motorhome and a Kountry Star 5th wheel .... hence "2 Stars." We never had a lick of trouble with either. Newmar makes an excellent product.
Our most recent purchase was a used Winnebago and we are very satisfied with it, too.
Most people say you should buy from a company that is still in business, and that's probably wise.
Enjoy whatever you pick and happy travels.

Hwy 89-Flagstaff to Page AZ & southern Utah national parks

In mid-May we are planning a trip to the national parks in southern Utah. We will be traveling from Flagstaff to Page, with first stop at Lake Powell. Will we have any problems on Hwy 89 with a 40' MH and toad?
Are there campgrounds throughout the area of Bryce, Glen Canyon, Canyonlands and Zion? We don't object to boondocking occasionally if there are places available. Will we need reservations this early in the season?
How is Hwy 191 from southern Utah to I-70?
We would appreciate hearing about your experiences and preferences on a trip like this. Thanks in advance.

RE: Travel Supreme Select coach ???

A neighbor in our current park has a 2006 TS Select 45' that he needs to sell. It is absolutely beautiful. He's very motivated and will look at any offer. Current location is southern Alabama, but it will be in Tennessee by the 1st of April. Let me know if you want his contact info.

RE: Not returning to the valley

We have spent 3 winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas, 2 winters in Phoenix, and this winter on the Gulf Coast of Alabama. This year has brought lots of rain and wind. We love Arizona and have decided that's where we will go from now on. To each his/her own. It would be kinda crowded if we all liked the same place!;)

RE: Suggestions for Mesa Area

We looked at a dozen or so parks in the Mesa area last winter. Of all the Cal-Am parks, we liked the looks of Valle del Oro the best. It is newer and more spacious and would be our choice next time. Val Vista and Mesa Regal were a bit too crowded for our tastes.
Canyon Vistas looked okay, but it was too far out.
We drove through Meridian and said "no way" -- very very cramped spaces.
Viewpoint on University Drive had a nice view of the mountains and would be another place we would consider.
Everyone will have varying opinions so you probably should just pick a park and go for the first season. Take the time to look around and see what appeals to you. Cal-Am is offering great rates if you go between September and December.
We have stayed at Palm Creek in Casa Grande and it is our favorite park ever.
As for weather -- RGV is warm and very windy. Personally, we don't like it there. Arizona can be quite cool at night, but 99% of the days are PERFECT. We commented on the wonderful weather every day.
Good luck and have fun.

We have done some long days as well, but prefer 300 - 350 miles.

If your air conditioner is not cooling well - read this.

This is our first summer in our 2003 Winnebago Journey. With extreme temperatures in the south, we weren't able to keep it below 87 degrees inside and the unit never cut off. We were miserable all day and all night.
We arrived at an RV park in Alabama and were talking this over with our neighbors. They told us about some friends of theirs who also had a Winnebago with A/C problems. Turns out the duct work at the rear of the coach had separated and they were losing most of their air.
DH went to the back of our MH and felt around where the ducts connected. Sure enough, lots of cold air was leaking out. We fixed it with some southern ingenuity (e.g. duct tape and chicken bands) and now our A/C is freezing us out.
Happy now! :C

RE: Wow it's hot out there! Class A is not cooling much!

We traveled through Oklahoma and Texas almost three weeks ago. The temps were so hot, the dash air couldn't keep up. We had to leave at 6:00 a.m. and quit shortly after noon because it was just too hot to go any further.
Sitting in the heat can be tough, but we also learned traveling is no fun when it is extremely hot.
Next summer we will be in the Colorado mountains or somewhere along the west coast before the heat gets too intense. Our house is on wheels and we are gonna use them to find the "perfect" place.
The summer temperatures are setting records and the winters are setting records for cold and snow --- what's up with that?

RE: cg's with large sites

Palm Creek in Casa Grande, AZ and Bella Terra in Foley, AL are two of the nicest places we have stayed. Both have large sites and beautiful facilities.

RE: Bella Terra

There were a few high dollar rigs, but not all. Don't let that idea scare you away. The people were extremely friendly and did not make us feel like paupers in our Winnebago. There were a variety of makes and models, but the Resort rules do require the MH be less than 15 years old.
It is a beautiful, well-run resort. Go to campground reviews and read the glowing comments. Nearly everyone gave it a 10.

I-81 from Knoxville into VA

We are in Mt. Airy NC and will be driving to Pigeon Forge TN. Mapquest says I-81 into VA and then toward Knoxville is shorter than going I-40.
We would like to know which has the fewest mountain passes.
Thanks, Marilyn
