RE: Truck Campers

We have gone full circle with campers, tent, pop-up, TC, 30ft TT/slide, 28ft classC, now back to a TC, so having some insite an all options the mobility of the TC is the big plus, and the weight beeing the only negitive.
1.the MPG with the C was it's biggest down fall.
2.the stress pulling the 30ft TT and mobility was it's biggest problem.
3.the pop-up was the dew/rain when ready to close it up, and the noise of an unrulely campground.
4.the first TC was very old and we wanted something nicer.
5.tent.......well it has it's + and - also, it's all according to what your doing.
6.with the newer TC it's an 03 Lance 1071/slide it's pretty heavy and i have done a ton of mods to my truck to make it better, i also get around 12-14 mpg according to where were at, but it's very nice and we will probly have on into our retirement years, if i don't downsize for the weight thing.
so for us it's a TC number one and a 14-16 ft TT with slide would be 2nd.

RE: C-60 for tc

My truck rids very harsh, but i drove a C60 for my job for a few years and mine ain't nothing compaired to it.
i think it would haul any TC you wanted but i would look for one of those stub nose little turbo diesel trucks if it was me.
unless you already had a nice C60 just sittin around.

RE: RV Debate: Best Boondocking RV?

A small high clearance TT with a nice 4x4 is as good as it gets for an extreeme off road boondocking spot, but i think whatever you can get to your favorite spot coupled with the off grid capabilities to get you through till time to leave is best.

RE: Rend Lake, Wayne Fitzgerrell State park, IL

I live 30 miles to the south-east of the lake, and although i do injoy watching the corn and alfalfa grow, there is not much to do that you can't do in your own home town.
lots of coal mines, hunting (duck, goose, pheasant, white tail deer, quail, squirrel, rabbit) shooting gar below the dam with a bow, and all the water sports things, horseback riding, but if you want to go somewhere and just relax by the fire it's pretty nice.

RE: Yellowstone -- East Entrance CG -- 1 night...

We stayed at Wapiti in 02, (in a tent) on out way to yellowstone, just before dark we watched a big cinnamon bear chomping some grass on the other side of the river.
needless to say we heard every little noise that night.
but it is a nice CG, in an awsome setting.

RE: Campground for Paducah Quilt Show

There are electric hook-ups at Fort Massac S/P ILL, a nice CG located on the grounds of a very cool fort on the Mississippi river. (10 miles give or take)
There is also one of my all time favorite C/G's located at Lake Glendale (Oak Point)ILL, with electric H/U on an awsome small lake. (25 miles or so)
Also at Dixon Springs S/P ILL, there are electric H/U, it's also fairly close to Paducah. (22 miles or so)
If you can't get in these there are litterly hundreds of spots in the land between the lakes area just east of Paducah.

RE: VA Blue Ridge Pky, Flowers ?

Like Jim said the peak bloom will be a span of about 2-3 weeks starting in the lower elevations and working on up.
you could call the Sugarland visitors center in The Great Smoky Mt. N/P and ask if there starting to see bloom, when it starts there you should have a couple weeks to get your trip in order. JMO

RE: Galcier National Park Montana

Roadlover.. this sounds like almost every trip we went on with our kids, try to see too much in a small amount of time, my wife and i see that we should have spent more time in each park but the kids are usually high strung and high speed so they didn't know any different.
We are now starting to go back and really explore each one (with out) the kids as they are grown.
Glacier is on that list.

RE: Avoiding Yellowstone Crowds

We were there in 2002 in the end of june, i was supprised at how few people were there.
I really hope it's that way when we go back, as i also have trouble with large agressive crowds.
i guess if half the people try to miss the crowds by going early and late in the year, it won't be so bad in the summer months, ha ha ha yeh right.
I do agree with the statment that was already made, the worst traffic jam in Yellowstone is way way better than the best one on the freeway.
