RE: Upgrade Tundra to F150 HD?

OP....i used to own a 07 tundra and can say it had no problems pulling or stopping my trailer. I moved up to gain some cargo capacity, if that is your plan than skip right over all 1/2tons and get a 3/4 gasser.

RE: My tow pig/DD build thread. F350/Cummins 6.7/twins/6R140

In all fairness to the OP, i wouldnt sweat too much yet, as long as the engine is the same year or newer it should be ok. Of course they might want to see/test the smog, In ma they do smog testing and plug into the computer. My 08 ford 6.4 was missing a few pieces and every year it would pass. The computer even displayed during the last test that the Exhaust filter was on line and ready...in reality it was in my shed at home. Just my opinion, but i think a lot of this testing is BS!

RE: Interested in diesel truck for camper -

i am driving a ford so there is no bashing just a fact....Avoid any ford 6.0 unless you are prepared to do some engine related upgrades! The 6.4 was a better engine, once the DPF fell off! Dodge, i would target year 2001-07.5, dodge did have tranny problems, 94-01, mostly caused by high HP numbers. Dmax, i am not an expert, but from what i have read 06-07 was the best year, pre DPF.

RE: NAPA DEF sale

Napa sale has been going on since last month, i picked up a couple jugs. Im glad to hear it is still going as i will need some more soon. Yes, monthly i use about 2.5 gallons....4000 miles.

Ma has the same testing, but only on 2008 on up trucks do they plug them in to test diesel....certain it wil catch up to all years that can be plugged in soon or later.

RE: My tow pig/DD build thread. F350/Cummins 6.7/twins/6R140

I'd rather have a clean 5.9 but I'm looking forward to hearing of your progress. My diesel guy has done these swaps before and i am not sure about other states but in Ma because of the year of the truck you would have to swap with an engine of the same year or newer. You couldnt do a 5.9 in a 2008 truck as it wasnt offered.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

60-65 is what i typically run at, this is traffic pending.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

Current "D" tires have a 65psi rating, just because a tire is rated for that pressure doesnt mean you have to run it at max. I was always under the impression that max pressure was for max weight rating. I will find out the rim rating when they pull the old tires, i assume the stamp must be on the inside.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

my real biggest reason for going with the maxxis is they were one of the few i could find that offered a "E" rated tire in my size. Not because i thought they were made in a better place.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

discount tire, shipping was free. I dont mind pulling the wheels and dropping everything off to have them mounted/balanced, this will give me time to check bearings and brakes.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

Speed and pressure were not the issues with the good years, they completly blew apart.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

ok, i just ordered 4 maxxis m8008 "e" rated from discount tire, they were $35 more each vs the bad years.

RE: Maxxis trailer tires

Yes, i was not happy with the badyears when the first one exploded and took the side off our trailer! Then when the second one went i started looking at them closely and see that they are nice and round like a motorcycle tire. Yet set 2 lbs below proper pressure. I guess the maxxis it will be, they are only a few more $$.

Maxxis trailer tires

Are they really that good? I am geting ready to replace all 4 of my goodyear MArathons, last season i had 2 blowouts in a row. There is nothign wrong with my trailer and i religously check the tire pressure. goodyears will not be returning to my trailer! I have 225/75 15d and see that maxxis makes a E rated in the same size, i think thats the route i am going. But before i click the purchase button i just wanted to hear the opinions of maxxis owners. thanks.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

I dont have a toy hauler, but the few times i have had my HD in the bed of the truck i would put a 4x4 and 1x4 block of wood under the frame at the engine. Then hook my straps to the fram at the crash bars, the wood acts as a stop so you dont over compress your forks. Also you didnt mention which model HD, but i know my ultra has rubber mounted handlebars so i would strap to them. My fathers TH has tracks in the floor which allow for hook points, he also puts some wood under the frame and then straps till the bike is sitting on the wood.

RE: Michelins.. ouch!

i think some of us are talking about different tires, i am certain in the big truck world there are better tires than michelin. however on my pickup trucks i have had very good luck with michelins and wouldnt hesistate to buy them again.
