from here on out it's 95-100+ everyday in our deserts and doesn't get below 80 until 10PM. Save your wood for next season and do without a camp fire.

I have witnesed something like this (live coverage on the morning news). In the spring or near the high times (long weekends) the police in Ontario (OPP) will set up check stops, usually at service stations off the highway in known high traffic areas (North of Toronto). They look for safe towing practices and equiptment such as functional lights, tires as well as ensuring all the laws surrounding the road are followed (loads secure, adiquate tread etc).. I have seen (live coverage on the morning news) where they have even impounded vehicles at these check stops. I am not sure if they have portable scales but I would assume they probably do. Although they may suggest they target people towing.. they will pull in ANY vehicle that may not be within the set limits.. I was pulled over once in a small older car for a "Safety check" The officer went as far as to check the floor boards after checking the lights etc.. it does happen.

Thanks for all the other good info as well guys, Valero it is, but not for me, for a friend. Although I told him to dump a little bleach on the hose bib before hooking his hose to it and to wear a condom for extra peace of mind as you never know what kind of disease you'll pick up in Baker.:B
That's kind of fuuny, when I was kid that's what they used to say about Corona and Elsinore.

Whatever you decide do yourself a favor and put on a beter intake ASAP. I even prefilter my UMP system on my RZRS= cheap insurance IMO.

They started putting (cat/resinators) on PSD in 95 or 96, you had something before the muffler, and that is the cat/resinator so if yours was a 01 it had one or it was not a california equipt truck, according to my research I did a while back.
It will be interresting when they start doing smog checks on all diesels, because the first thing the look for, is all the factory installed EPA stuff. if it's not there they will not certify it as smoged, and then they turn it over to CARB or EPA then you get a letter from them, and a late fee from dmv if you go over the experation date.
Whether you pass or fail the smog inspection, send your check to the DMV for your tags so you're not late. You won't get the sticker until you pass the inspection, but at least your registration won't be late.
Been there done that (not on a diesel, but on one of the family cars).
Trailer, I attached the EO for both the 7.3 and 6.8 for 2001. Please notice the 7.3 has no special Equipment listed like the 6.8. There was a window when the the 7.3 did not require a cat even in CA. I worked my way through A&P school by work as a certified smog tech so I am comfortable recognizing a CAT, there was none on the vehicle. If I wasn't battling with the my supposed "brother" over the last 500.00 that I sold the 7.3 to I'd take a picture of the CARB cert tag showing NON Catalyst under the hood.

STSmark, you are totally correct about the 7.3 cat. issue. I purhased it new in so cal in sept.2001 afetr looking around for a non cat. truck. It has the Non Cat. sticker on the front lip inside the hood.
I had the smog cert for it at the time of my post and paid the dmv fees the next day. :C

x2. Even if I had pipes (stacks) hanging out of my truck, it does not mean that I don't have a cat on my truck.
BK, wouldn't that meet requirements for probable cause or reasonable suspicion? That would suck though as my 2001 7.3 did not come stock with a cat.

Had my 2001 7.3 smogged yesterday. It was a visual under the hood, connected up to the computer, no snap test. in & out in 15 mins. $58 total.
