RE: Recalculating

Mine does not say "Recalculating". It says "OK, Stupid, how many times am I going to have to tell you that you are going the wrong way!"

RE: Water Hose

The problem with a garden hose (as has been said) is what the hose has been made from - and the fittings and the hose itself contain lead. It has nothing to do with taste. I have seen hoses sold now that carry labels that state that they contain lead. So if you wish to take your chances - go ahead. Lead poisoning is gradual. We drink from our fresh water tanks and fill them with a white, drinking water safe hose. Twenty five feet of white hose is less than $10. When at home I do not put a filter on the hose, but at a campground I do.

RE: GPS for RVs

Thanks all, this is great information. I would have thought that just watching clearances would be good enough, but like I said, I was driving on some E-way on Long Island in a car, limited access, and there were a series of low underpasses that were NOT RV friendly. I wouldn't have thought to be looking for such signs (if there were any) on the on-ramps. There was plenty of warning about the bridges, so you could stop in time, but I'm not sure what one would do once on the highway confronted with a rather low stone archway. It got me to thinking. In NYS, anything over 7'10" is not permitted on any state road with the name "Parkway". Some on ramps will say this - some do not. And a GPS will route you on these every time. This is why you can't trust a GPS intended for a car. Worst part is with the 7'10" posting on one of these parkways there is an overpass that has a clearance of 6'9" - and you don't see this until you are right on it - surprise!

RE: Electric hookup?

This one box is for two adjacent campsites? Get adapters - you can buy them in Walmart in the RV section of the Auto Dept. Get the ones with the socket and plug connected with a heavy cable in between and not the ones with just a socket on one side and plug on the other of the same rubber piece. These are harder to disconnect from your cable. If there is nothing else these work just as well.

RE: Magic Jack as a home & RV phone

I am using Magic Jack Plus at home - no PC required. (It does cost $30 more.) It plugs into your router. It can also plug into your laptop or pc when traveling and work just like the regular Magic Jack does. If you are experiencing problems with other websites using Clear this very well may be your problem.

RE: Insurance

Anyone have AAA? You are talking about AAA emergency road service, right? We have AAA for our cars. AAA charges an extra rate to cover RVs. And AAA does not cover RVs in every state. Some have been able to call AAA with their Class B without the additional coverage and because the Class B looks like just a van the guy that shows up does not know the difference. You really want Emergency Road Service that is RV specific and will send someone who understands that there are parts of your Class B underneath that need special attention when towing, putting it up on a jack, etc. There is Good Sam and CoachNet for RV emergency road service - asking which is better will result in a flood of conflicting responses as it is like asking what is better, vanilla or chocolate - everyone has a preference.

RE: walk through

Here are two articles about the delivery of our new Roadtrek - Delivery Checklist and Delivery Take a look at the following articles as well, as our delivery was not as good as we thought at the time... May you have a salesman or delivery tech who knows about what he is showing you... Take notes. Take photos. If you can have someone else do this - take video. At least one of you needs to be not distracted by notebooks and cameras to hear and see what you are being shown. Don't hesitate to say - "Stop, what was that again." Make sure that everything that you are supposed to be getting is installed and working. Do not leave the dealer without seeing everything works. We spent a night in a nearby campground that same night - and let them know at the dealer that we would be back the next day if everything did not work as it should - we were back there the next day.

RE: I Guess Camping Is Different Here....

If you want to "pretend" you are camping in the "country", try Battle Row Campground in Old Bethpage. It has water and electric hookups and it is in what looks like "woods" though you are not far off from the road. You pay a little more if you are a Suffolk resident as it is a Nassau County Campground. We have not stayed there but looked it over. We just put up with the traffic, tolls and gas prices and leave LI and head to PA.

RE: Gas Wars

Just returned to NYS for the summer. Gas in mid-PA was $3.46. Just before the NYS border, still in PA, it was $3.68. Just over the border it was $3.90. 44 cents/gallon difference in 100 miles. X2 on gas buddy!!Its called NYS fuel tax. I often get my gas when I make a trip south to Pennsylvania. And I make lots of trips to Pa! My doctor is there, my dentist is there, the grocery store is there, and my grandkids are there, etc. Yes, absolutely. Over $0.30 of the difference when you get to NYS is the gas tax. And you have all of the stations now playing the cash vs credit card game in NY - and other places too I am sure. So, it looks like $3.90 on the sign until you get closer and find out that this is the cash price and for a credit card you add from 10 cents to a dollar more per gallon. I don't carry enough cash to fill my RV several times on a trip so I have to use a charge card (and I have a small RV). That's lots of cash to have on hand just to buy gas - or pay the premium. And this is not always shown on Gas Buddy - often the prices quoted are the cash price when there is a difference between cash and credit.

RE: Campgrounds near Stamford, CT????

Put the location into this site - http://www.epgsoft.com/CampgroundMap/ You are going to see that there really is nothing in the western part of CT. You are going to have to travel west to find campgrounds. You can overnight for free at Foxwoods Casino and also at Mohegan Sun Casino (both no hookups). These are about an hour or so further east from the site you want to see, but you will have entertainment for the night and a nice dinner too. I can't resist ;) - when you go to the glass house, don't throw stones.

RE: Looking for campground in MD, PA, WV, VA with hotel on site

The Lancaster, PA area was mentioned. There are hotel/motels every fifty feet in this area. The Old Mill Stream Campground on Route 30 in Lancaster has a hotel next door and also several directly across the road. Of course, this is a much different experience than a park.

RE: BU programs for O/S restore/repair

Get yourself Acronis True Image Home and you can make an image of your hard drive with a fresh install of your OS with any tweaks you have made. Then if you want to go back to that install you just recover the image to your drive with Acronis (which will also allow you to make a disk to do an recovery without having to re-install Windows first.

RE: Insurance

Progressive has RV insurance with very good rates and FULL replacement coverage. Call them for a quote rather than use the website (no difference in rates but you can discuss your needs with a real person).

RE: T-mobile announces new No contract data plans

TMobile has its own network. It is a GSM network just like AT&T (Verizon and Sprint are CDMA networks and are not compatible with GSM service). TMobile does roam on AT&T for services that include roaming on other networks - no data, some voice. TMobile has no contract phone plans that will allow you to add wifi hotspot service for $15 per month and since these are no contract plans you can add that service only on months that you want it. The best of TMobile's current plans is the internet or walmart purchased only Monthly 4G $30 plan which includes 5gb web, unlimited text, and 100 mins talk. Add the $15 hotspot with an Android phone and you can use your 5gb as a hotspot for up to 5 devices.

RE: GPS Software

We have used both Streets and Trips and DeLorme and we prefer DeLorme. It certainly will do what you want. You start your routing with your home starting point and then put in your destination - THEN you go along the route and add your stops. It will route the trip completely stopping at all of the points that you have specified. Then save the route to your laptop and load it when you start your trip. For us DeLorme did this much better than Microsoft. As to your question about what GPS to use with Streets and Trips - Microsoft sells a USB receiver with some versions of the software - just like the LT-40. The LT-40 should also work with Streets and Trips - make sure Streets and Trips has all of the settings correctly set for GPS routing.

Charlottesville, VA Campgrounds?

We will be visiting Monticello this summer and are looking for campgrounds with full hookups in or near Charlottesville, VA. I have seen the two on RV Park Reviews. Any opinions or alternatives?

RE: Best TV Viewing options

DISH has a mobile system for RVs - pay in the months you are traveling. You will need to combine the box you get from DISH with a satellite antenna dish on your 5er or a portable unit that you set up outside when you use it. Obviously, in the rain it is better not to have to go outside to set up and aim the portable.

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

You don't have a very large hard drive to back up. I can back up my 2 Terrabyte HD to a USB connected drive in about five hours. Something is not right - obviously you know this. The USB drive you are backing up to is going to be slower than a hardwired hard drive - but with only 228 gb to back up it should take only a few hours with Acronis. Acronis makes an image backup. You can increase compression on the image in the software settings and create a smaller ending file - actually it is fileS as Acronis creates several files that together make up your back up. Make sure that it is not trying to back up anything else - any other drives that you have connected or the USB drive you are writing to. Have it do a full backup on "C" only - which I am sure you are doing. This also depends on the age of your computer and the types of drives that you have - and older CPU and older drives with older architecture will take longer to backup. Things you can do. Right click on your C drive in "Computer" and go to Properties and then Tools. Click on Check for Errors. Let that do its thing. Then after that Click on Defrag and defrag the drive. This will take some time but it will eliminate all of the empty spaces on your drive that sit between written spaces. Then it will put all of the written bytes together and in order. Then try backing up with Acronis. Also make sure the trial version of Acronis actually is a fully working version and not crippled in any way other than a usage time limit. I would not trust backing up my computer to freeware software. You want to be absolutely sure that when you need to restore you PC you will be able to.

RE: PDI

I am in the process of buying a Class B...dealer wants to charge $850. for the PDI...anyone out there with an opinion on that?! Thanks! That is absurd! Find another Class B dealer that has what you want. If for nothing else, you will have leverage to negotiate with this dealer.

RE: President's Club+Good Sams Junk mail

What am I missing here? I thought that Good Sam and Camping World had been combined and there is no longer a "President's Club". Now I am hearing that you bought a Presidents Club card for life for $20. How is that different from the Good Sam membership? What he bought is a Good Sam Membership that gives Camping World discounts just as the President's Club card did - and it is not $20 once for life but if you give them a credit card to automatically renew Good Sam membership annually you lock in the $20 annual rate for life. There is no more President's Club - and the discount now is only valid at Camping World's actual stores or mail order. Not internet sales which are discounted now for everyone. Good Sam members will get shipping discounts at the CW website.
