RE: Why am I getting this error every time I try to post?

No problems with using Firefox or Chrome. Try using CTRL+F5 to do a fresh reload of a webpage without using the cache. Works with any of the major browsers.

RE: Magic Jack as a home & RV phone

I will add, though, that MJ is a bandwidth hog. Unless you have a really solid connection, you're going to hear a lot of distortion or the person you're talking to will. I doubt bandwidth is the issue. I personally measured MJ bandwidth consumption, and I got 83mbps upstream and downstream. This is easily covered by Clear 4G, or even most 3G mobile connection. Also, about 1/10 the bandwidth of a typical YouTube video. The problem is that VoIP needs a fairly consistent data rate over time for a quality voice connection. It typically has a limited buffer, so quality can suffer from data delays. YouTube has a much larger data buffer, so can generally weather data delays better than VoIP.

RE: Magic Jack as a home & RV phone

Did you have an issue with your MagicJack when you started using Clear, or did it work fine? There have been some complaints on the Net about the quality of VoIP when using Clear. Some have pointed out higher latency and jitter rates, both of which can effect the quality of calls. I've experienced some issues using Google Chat phone calls in the past. You may want to run a VoIP test of your connection at myspeed.visualware.com. Clear is not scheduled to roll out 4G LTE until 2014, which will supposedly be the fastest 4G network data service available.

RE: Questions about forum is it just me?

If you're using Internet Explorer(IE), then take a look a the Free spell checker add-on Speckie. You can see a demo of how it works at this forum post. Firefox, Chrome, and Safari browsers have spell checkers built in.

RE: Thunderbird Question

There are only mail lists in TB. You then select the send method as to:, cc:, or by bcc: from the drop-down when you compose an email. If you are going to bcc: the same email addresses all the time, then go into TB "Tools>Accounts>Copies&Folders>BCC these email address:" and list the emails addresses separated by a ; symbol.

RE: Recalculating

That's one function I quickly found on my TomTom, as nothing is more aggravating to me than the GPS constantly recalculating and hounding you when it thinks you've strayed off your route. For instance, just to exit to fuel up or to grab a quick bite to eat. I would think most GPS have the ability, but not necessarily intuitive.

RE: BU programs for O/S restore/repair

What I would like to know is a simple step-by-step process of capturing the O/S after a fresh installation and any customization I may make. This is what I do with any new OS install, or when I buy new hardware with pre-installed OS such as a laptop. I never use the restore discs that come with a computer. It'll ultimately save you time by making your own "fresh" install restore files. The reason being that the factory restore discs tend to include "bloatware" and also tend not to have updated OS program, hardware, and security updates. Microsoft's paranoia with copywrite infringement will probably prevent you from making a copy of the OS that you can use later. It's not an issue for making backups of your system. If it was, Microsoft would not include a system backup app built into WIN 7 for doing a system restore. You could use it to make a fresh install system image. Though it's not a license issue to restore your system from a image backup, it may technically violate terms if you restore to a different system. I believe it depends on what version of Windows license you have. For instance, upgrading a motherboard on a computer may violate a Windows OEM license as it is based on specific hardware. Microsoft may consider this a new system. Apparently, not an issue for upgrading memory, graphics, or HD. So, you can simply use the system backup in WIN 7, or use a third party image backup for WIN 7 or other versions. I prefer using the freeware programs Easeus ToDo Backup Free or Paragon Backup & Recovery 2012 Free. Both offer paid versions but have never personally needed the extra features. They're fairly straight forward. Select what partition(s) you want to image, select the type of destination storage type, and let it do its thing. You'll also need to make a restore CD or USB flash drive, which is generally self booting Linux files containing your restore app and necessary hardware drivers for your backup medium. You can also make a Windows 7 PE restore disc or drive which does offer additional restore options, but somewhat more involved to configure, which may also involve downloading additional files from Microsoft. Still, not particularly difficult in Easeus ToDo Backup. It may also be an advantage to have a separate Windows 7 OS disk. I tend to buy just the Windows license with no disk. Though somewhat obscure, you can download some versions of Windows 7 .iso files from Microsoft authorized download sites, and burn your own OS DVD. They're not really meant for consumer end users, but apparently don't restrict downloads. You can also make certain versions of Windows 7 OS disks from other versions. I once needed a Windows 7 Starter disc for an older 32-bit laptop. Problem is that Microsoft does not offer a Windows 7 Starter OS disc to end users. I just took my Windows 7 Professional disc, and changed the configuration file to tell it to load Windows 7 Starter. Used it to do a new fresh install of Starter on the laptop. I did have one unused Windows 7 Starter license.

RE: cant post pictures

I have been trying to post a picture from photobucket, and it keeps telling me server is having a problem. If your Photobucket's folder name has a space such as RV Pictures, it has been causing a posting issue recently if using the RV.NET forum portal. You can either use a different forum portal, or use a website such as bitly.com to shorten the photo's URL address such as explained in this post.

RE: Motorola XOOM 10.1” 32GB Tablet on WOOT $250

Motorola's Android upgrade info. for their products can sometimes be confusing, if not contradictory on some websites providing roll out schedules. But it would appear the Xoom WiFi only edition(MZ604) has an upgrade to ISC Android 4.0 already available. Since there are multiple versions of the Xoom, the question is whether this is that version? :h

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

Not personally having issues in posting to the forums, but experience the same stalling with the % symbol using RV.NET. In order to post this suggestion about Photobucket issues, I had to use the html code equivalent for the % to display the post. For those who may not be familiar, the html code equivalent &#37 will be displayed by a browser as %.

RE: Home Page Suggestions

Learn HTML and write your own 'home page' which resides in your computer. Disadvantages: It is not accessible from any computer other than your own but this can be easily overcome by copying it to a 'thumbdrive' and taking it with you when you use a 'public' computer. Good idea! You could use a cloud service such as Dropbox to store your home page html file. Placed it in the Private folder would keep it encrypted when syncing between your computers on the Net. Not only would it be accessible from all your other computers, but making any changes to the home page from any one of them, would automatically be reflected on all computers with Dropbox installed. http://i.imgur.com/Fxozj.jpg "border=1" I used to use browser based weather and time apps, but switched to desktop based widgets instead. The one on my Windows computers is similar to my Android phone's widget and animates when it refreshes. You can set different styles and other custom settings. This free desktop widget and others are available at HTC Home.

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

Unless you've actually done a restore with a particular software's image backup, how do you know that it works? What does a paid version of backup software actually by you? Maybe some form of tech support? I've personally done multiple restores with the freeware version of ToDo Image Backups with no problems. The paid version uses the same backup engine as the freeware, except with additional features added.

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

I must not be using it correctly. Keeps telling me that I have run out of disk space when I know this shouldn't be true. So, you're using ToDo Backup and not Windows 7 Backup?

RE: FF 12.0 no delete cookies on exit

Type about:config in the Firefox's URL address bar and ENTER to go into Config. In the search bar on top, type or copy and paste privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies and check if all line entries are set to "True". If not, double-click each line. Close down and restart Firefox. Go back into Firefox Config, and re-check each entries. Are they still set to True? If not, than either some addon may be overriding your settings, or your Profile folder could be corrupt.

RE: FF 12.0 no delete cookies on exit

Which cookies are not being deleted? If you have Firefox set to open a homepage website, and have accept cookies from sites checkmarked, then Firefox will load those cookies on startup. They will be erased upon shutdown. You can find out by running a separate program such as CCleaner after you shutdown Firefox to see if any cookies actually remain in the cache.

RE: Window 7. Can't run back up

You don't need to buy a backup application in order to make reliable system image backups. I use the freeware EaseUS Todo Backup Free 4.5, and have used it to restore hard drives on more than one occasions including to dissimilar hardware. Very easy to use and restored my HD with no issues.

RE: Stop the Tracking Paparazz

So, all that is left to track you are the "Do not track" aps themselves? Not to mention your ISP. I am a born skeptic and trust little. It depends on whether referring to tracking for commercial purposes or for privacy purposes? Complete privacy really doesn't exist in electronic media. Just assume all your email is being monitored, whether encrypted or not. Including your cell phone communications. Ya, I know both GSM and CDMA use voice/data encryption. Your electronic billing and banking records. Even most encrypted files transferred electronically which copies may already being stored, if not already un-encrypted. No, I'm not being paranoid. In fact, in the larger scheme of things, I'm not on the whole really concerned. Privacy and encryption measures are meant to control unauthorized access to personal data by the vast majority of individuals and organizations, even by most hackers. But not all. For an entertaining read, do a search for Stellar Wind, or take a look at this recent Wired article on the new NSA facility in Utah.
