RE: Couple of water related questions

The water pump will cycle if the demand is less than the flow rate of the pump which happens when a faucet is opened part way. If your faucet is full open, I suspect you have a partial blockage in the water line that feeds those faucets. You would also have low pressure and a low flow rate downstream of the blockage. If you have a water filter, check that it is not blocked and/or remove it to see if there is an improvement. Is the flow rate acceptable when hooked to city water?
If the electric water heater switch was on with no water, the element is most certainly toast. When the switch is on there is always power to the element if plugged in to a 120v source, regardless of the position of the switch inside.

Check out my combo in sig pic. This is the fourth season for this rig and I wouldn't change a thing. Maybe it works because it's a Tundra!;)

Solar Panel Tilt support rod

I'm in the final stages of my solar installation and have designed the panel mounts so that the panels can be tilted along any of the four axes. I have not come up with solution for easily adjustable support rods. How have those of you that do "the tilt" solved the problem? At this point I'm not really interested in commercially available tilt systems.

RE: Best Deals On Inverters? Where To Look?

Hodges Marine
Purchased this inverter earlier in the year and just got it wired in with the new batteries today. Runs the microwave nicely and the vacuum and hairdryer (not at the same time). The price is right.

RE: Dometic 2652 - Am I missing a shelf?

Interesting. Our Cougar also has the DM2652. When we got it home after we bought it in 2009, the DW said "we are missing a shelf". We had the one with the large cut out and the small one that goes on top. Our old camper had the same fridge and had three shelves. We also looked at the brochure online which shows three shelves. We called the dealer and they ordered the missing shelf under warranty. The missing one is a full-size shelf without the cutout.

RE: Another gray/black question, sorry.

I'll throw a little kink in the calculation for you. Actually the bottoms of the waste tanks are not flat. They are deeper at the discharge end and taper to the other end so they will drain properly. Mine are about 6" deep at the deep end and 4" deep at the other. To do the calculation correctly you need to know the length, width, and difference in thickness from end to end. Mine would require about 8 gallons to cover the bottom completely if the trailer is perfectly level. Putting that much water in would be wasting about 20% of my tank capacity.
However, there is absolutely no harm in draining gray tanks completely and leaving them "dry" until the next time they are used. There is actually no harm in draining a black tank completely and leaving it that way if you flushed it well. I do add a couple of gallons of water and an odor packet to the black tank after a trip just so it's ready for the next trip. This method has worked for 12 years with no problems.

RE: keystone cougar, good quality?

As to your question I would agree that this is a solid built unit. I'm very familiar with pricing on Keystone and it's very hard to believe that you could get this unit for 22 especially in California. For that price I would snap it up in a heartbeat.
I agree completely. That's close to what I paid for my 245RKS in 2009.

RE: wall outlet>>>> HELP!!!!!

ryanallie1 writes "Wall Plugs can go bad. But I doubt that is the problem. I would still do some more checking."
If the outlet the OP has looks like
THIS
They are complete junk, and MUST be REPLACED with a regular outlet..
I have to ask. If they are that bad, how is it that you will find this type in nearly every RV? They are rated for 15 amp.

Not really. The extra you use going up you save going down.

RE: Repairing enclosed belly

The first time I removed the belly cover, I cut it into three sections to make reinstallation and any subsequent removal easier. I added a secondary aluminum cross member at the cuts and secured the coroplast to the new cross members with the same type fasteners as existing. I taped over the cuts with Gorilla tape.
In case you're wondering, the Gorilla tape holds very well. I just removed belly cover again today to facilitate some mods and had a tough time removing the tape that had been on about a year.

RE: Tank level indicator: Upgrade cancelled!!!!!!

I was also going to suggest SeeLevel. They are very straight forward to install if you are handy at all. The hardest part is removing the belly cover if your trailer has one. Since you don't have a monitor system you would also have to run a few wires.

RE: Please splain something to me Lucy

The fifth wheel hitch applies mostly tension or compression loads on the pin box. The extension of the gooseneck acts as a lever arm and in addition to the tension/compression loads it also adds a torque which is the tension/compression load multiplied by the length of the gooseneck.

RE: My "Level" Best!

I remember when I bought my first 5th wheel. I asked the dealer about some bubble levels. He said "Oh, you're one of those" in a rather sarcastic manner. I'm not ashamed to admit, yes, I am!
Doesn't take but a few extra minutes and makes the use of the trailer more enjoyable.

RE: Anode rod-no change

Electrolysis usually occurs even when using a water softener as it's an electrical issue not sediment. What KIND of anode are you using? Zink would be normal for your heater I think but some are made from aluminum and may not protect as well (that's a guess)
First of all, it's not electrolysis, it is galvanic corrosion. Suburban water heaters use magnesium or aluminum not zinc. Magnesium is more active and will deteriorate faster than aluminum. If you are using aluminum, I would go to magnesium for better protection. Suburban recommends magnesium unless it lasts less than a year in which case they say to use aluminum. This is quoted from the package of a Suburban anode rod.
