After researching the topic and tired out fighting the dish pointing fiasco, we have decided to purchase the Winegard Carryout GM1518. Might get the ladder mount also and semi permanently mount the Dish/Dome. Has anyone done this. Trying to figure out if I should just zip tie a 6ft pc of coax to use as pigtail and splice into that to run to satellite ready outlet in command center. What about the DC converter as well. Thanks in advance. Steve

I did not opt for any of the accessories like the ladder mount or the tripod. I went with the standard throw it out on the ground or table method. I put on top of my toad and on top of the MH.
I use a DC receptacle that I installed under the hood. unit comes with fifty feet of cable that allows for great movement for optimum positioning.
You could put a 12 DC receptacle in different locations but the input coaxial cable could be a problem unlesss your rig is equiped with a satellight coaxial cable installed at the factory. I ran a new one to a location adjacent to the DC receptacle.

i just set mine on the roof of 5th wheel. It does not have to be setting level.
can you travel with it on the ladder bracket if not why the coax pig tail just attach the coax before setting it on the mount.
I connect the coax cable to the satelite in connection in the trailers outdoor connection center
power is supplied with a 12v receptical connected to the trailer battery both power cable and coaxial cable supplied with the carryout are 50ft. long plenty for most situations.

I bought the Carryout and both the ladder mount and ground tripod. We are on day 13 of a 30 day trip and using it for the first time. Works great, in my opinion. I installed the ladder mount but have not put the carryout on it yet. I think I need some sort of additional reinforcement bracket to keep from damaging the ladder bouncing down some of the great roads we have been on. Ladder mount comes with extra 50 ft 12v cable open ended with switch to install inside the MH, which I have not done yet. I have talked to 2 other owners that experinced some minor problems and both said that Winegard's customer service was great to work with.

I bought the ladder mount. I installed it. Had to add a support bracket, drilled to the roof. Too much weight on the ladder. It would probably broken the ladder( come out from the back). I ran wires through the refer vent. Ran the 12 v power straight to the converter. It works great on the ladder mount. Can't seem to get it to work when I take it off.

The portability of the Carryout has proven to be the best feature for me. It's great to be able to camp under the trees and run the Carryout out to where it gets an unobstructive view of the birds. The ladder mount didn't seem to be designed for travel and even parked it was not all that stable so I sold it and now use a ground mount or put it on one of the slides. Just, remember to keep the Carryout secured against theft.

Would have broken the ladder? I'm guessing that any ladder which can hold my 200+ lbs can easily support a portable dish. I ladder mounted our VuCube 2 years ago and have never had an issue traveling with it up there yet.
