dual transmission oil cooler? We are looking at a Dodge dually and it doesn't have this? Is it important for hauling a TC?

You will want an auxiliary tranny cooler if you are going to tow with this truck...I guess a "dual" one would be even better.
The cooler you can run, the better. Heat is the killer of transmissions.

Most trucks that are configured with the "heavy duty towing package" include extra transmission cooling.

typically there is a small trans cooler built into the radiator. An additional cooler would be a seperate cooler attached to front of the radiator to provide extra cooling. Most all "trucks" have a cooler other than the one in the radiator. IMO I would want a trans cooler if I where planning on any towing.

Don't worry about trans cooling, it is set up for what ever you want to do. There is plenty of trans cooling on that unit. Macktee

I can't speak for Dodge, but my "02 K3500 Chev ran warmer than I like to see when I first got it. It came with an external cooler (as well as the one in the radiator) but I had a deep oil pan installed on the Allison. Now I have to really work it to see abnormal temps.

Ditto with my Ford Dually. Very small factory tranny cooler, mounted directly under the main radiator.

An extra tranny cooler is the absolute cheapest insurance you'll ever get. I bought a TruCool Max. It dropped my tranny temps consistently about 40 degrees, loaded or empty. In the winter, it barely makes it over 120. Fully loaded, even with my 18,000lb toyhauler, it keeps tranny temps 100 degrees above ambient--70 outside, 170 tranny temp.

Also wouldn't hurt to put in a tranny temp gauge. I have an Autometer.

I don't know about the newer trucks, but I am not aware of any truck equipped with a transmission temp gauge from the factory. My truck is a '96 Dodge, and I installed aftermarket gauges. My point is, without a gauge, how do you know if you do or do not need more cooling for the transmission?

I have a temp gauge in the pan, and a second gauge after the fluid leaves the transmission. Very different temp readings. I have had this truck for about 11 years, with a 4000 pound TC. It does get hot in the summer, pulling long hills, but the factory cooling has done the job.

Wayne,
Our 06 Duramax came standard with a tranny temp gauge.. It seems accurate (it responds quickly to changing towing conditions)
I did add an EGT gauge for when I pull long hot grades.

Reddog1: My 08 Silverado has a built in tranny temp gage also. My temps run around 160 here in Fl. with camper on and in traffic. On the road , it drops to around 145 at 60 mph.
