I have seen several posts on a exhaust pipe that clamps to the gen set exhaust that makes the exhaust exit higher than the RV.

What is this extention pipe called? Seems I read that this was store bought or a DIY type mod?

The commercial version is the Camco Gen-Turi. It works well for moving generator exhaust fumes and noise upwards and dissipating it above the RV roof line.

You can also build you own version.

I built my own when I had a motorhome. It is easy to do and can save you some major dollars.

I GOT CARRIED AWAY and spent $15 on this one. I made it out of alum 2"X4" gutter down spout and a 90 degree elbow. Already designed to slip together and cutting the 10' into two 5' is easy enough plus it makes it easy to store. 10' gets it above the roof.

You do not need the air gap, but it does lower the temp of the up pipe by 15 degrees to 120F.
The 4" suction cup came from Harbour Freight ($4) plus I had the white channel that slips into the joint. Not that it weighs all that much but the suction cup will support all the weight.
Putting a little paint on the two joints helps in putting it together. Just made another one for a friend and it cost $17.

This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

You can do like I did, find someone on E-Bay selling one fairly cheap. I paid >$50 delivered for mine.

Yes you DO need the air gap if you want your gen to last.
And 120 degrees or higher temp on a pipe along side your MH? again!

The Genturi Exhaust pipes are NOT hot to the touch good for you and passerby's AND safe for the wall of your MH. I don't leave home without mine and only wish they were 'mandatory' equipment for non/powershore events.

Home made pipes out of material that gets dangerously hot and not designed to prevent back pressure, is just IMHO an accident waiting to happen. Bet you put that bad boy away the first time some kid walks along side your MH and gets burned or your RV burns down!

This is just one add on that IMHO should not be homemade DYI. Spend the bucks on this one!

Please tell me how a 4 inch gutter will create backpressure even if it were welded to the 1 or 1.5 inch exhaust pipe of the gen.

Mine is home made from PVC 3" pipe. The up pipe is the pcv, I have a 90 steel elbow that slips onto the gen tailpipe tightly that enters the pvc pipe in it's center. I can rest my cheek on my pvc pipe it is that cool. You do not have to spend any $ on a "factory made" item unless you choice. Viable alternatives do exist and work and work just fine.
