I have access to a Generac 7.8HP,4000 running watts, 5000 surge watts generator. Here are my questions:
Has anyone modified the exhaust on a portable generator to make it quieter? Has anyone utilized any device between the generator output and the trailer to ensure cleaner power supply to the trailer?
I would love to purchase a new Yamaha or Honda generator but for the cost of modifications have the aforementioned available.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

There is a product called Gentury, it is a tube that attaches to the exaust of the generator, and shoots the gas upward, I ues one, I some times forget that I have the generator on, I do not hear it.
RV parts dealer will have them, on the other question, no can do. Navegator

If cost is your concern and you want these features then go with Honda, etc from the get go.

One of the problems with creating a quieter exhaust, is that you are changing the design and operation of the engine. Don't you think that the mfgr. would have done it, if they could, because EVERYONE wants a quieter genset!
If you add an extension or different muffler to your system, you are going to create additional backpressure on the system, which isn't good. Those extension pipes that redirect the exhaust up the side of the RV seem to work, but who really knows if there is a negative effect on the longevity of the engine?
As for filtering the electric....you can probably buy some sort of surge suppressor or "electronic filter box" that will do that, but as mentioned, you may as well buy the Honda, for what it's going to cost you.
Unless you plan to operate some sort of electronic specialty equipment, I don't see why you are too worried about the voltage coming out of the genset, as long as it 110VAC. Most of the normal equipment you will use, will handle what that genset will put out, without a problem.

for cleaner power, google double conversion. You may spend more on it then the blue or red options.

You might want to look at the Kipor 6000 series of portable generators. I have one and it is pretty quiet and has a 50amp plug in right on the generator. It runs everything (including both air conditioners) in my trailer. I found mine for $1300 on the internet. Bargains are out there, you just have to be able to spot them and pull the trigger as soon as you find one. I have never been sorry for buying mine.

Yes you can quieten the exhaust, but most of the noise will come from the engine itself. The better gensets will have low rpm engines on them, thicker castings for the components, some are in sound deadening enclosures, etc..

I made a muffler for a contractor gen that I had. It did quiet the exhaust but then you just heard other engine noise, it didn't improve the anything overall.
If the gen your looking at has 220v output, you'll only have half of the rated outputs available for your RV's 110v use.

We tried different mufflers, an insulated box, and finally just bought a Honda and don't regret it at all. I wish I would have done that in the first place, now I have 3 generators just taking up space.
