The rear furnace in my 2000 Pace Arrow Vision comes on by itself. Control panel has everything turned off; temp is turned down to bottom. Central control box for heat/ac has been replaced, but that did not solve problem. Everything else electrical has just been checked, and all works as it is supposed to. This even has my technician stumped. Any ideas?

The only way for that to happen is a short betwern 12volt plus and furnace on. Install a new thermostat and that should fix the problem. Unless you have wires shorted together.

Are there any flourecents lights on or being turned on at the time furnace starts?
What make and model of heating/ac control is it?
I am guessing bad ballast in flourecent light interferring with signal from control unit or sending a signal that the rear furnace reciever is picking up.

Disconnect the 2 tstat wires AT the furnace. Then see if it comes on. That will eliminate the tstat wiring and control system. I had a Jayco that did the same thing and we could not get it to happen in the shop. Then, I was checking the plumbing at the kitchen sink for a leak and after running a couple of gallons of water, the furnace came on. Found that the drain abs pipe for the sink ran over the top of the furnace case(5 feet from the sink) was cracked and the water dripped onto the furnace PC board thru the case housing and that shorted the control board and caused the furnace to run. Check your rear plumbing and check the Furnace control board for corrosion especially if you have afurnace model with outside access door. Doug

I agree with Donn0128. My front furnace would start with everything shut down, and even when I had the front AC on. It turned out to be a bad thermostat.

I have seen thermostats that are mounted on an outside wall get a lot of condensation on their back side and cause all kinds of strange things to happen.

Is the furnace putting out heat or does the fan only run? If it is putting out heat, try disconnecting the thermostat to see if it continues to run. If it is just the fan, you may have an issue on the control board.

Not related but once I had a "ghost" story.
a bunch of years ago my electromechanic told us a story:
he also serviced a bakery with an automatic oven, and sudenly in the middle of the night the bakery called to tell that THE OVEN WAS HAUNTED! it started by itself with no reason, all switches to off (it was a fairly modern oven with some electronic boards). This guy first "takes his time" to look around and sudenly he started to LHAO!!! (in front of the VERY frightened owner)
his explanation was that a few days ago some salesperson was selling a "very special" (BS) contact cleaner with free deostration, so the owner of the bakery allowed this guy to hose down the boards with spray.... PPPPFFFFFSHHHHHHHHST!
so the boards where squaky clean...
in the rear of one of the boards, a trail of carbon soot(sp?) made with a trail of a drop that the liquid cleaner had left (the board was mounted vertically) and with the right conditions of maybe ambient temp, humidity or else, the trail became conductive and triggering a transistor that turned on the whole oven!, with blowers, transportation belts, EVERITHING!.
he demostrated to the (very puzled owner) by bridgeing the trail of soot with a wire he got the "haunted FXs".
(now the very ashamed looking down) owner had to pay VERY EXPENSIVE for a swipe of a finger over carbon dirt!
moral of the story... clean your boards!

The white wire in back of the thermostat is heat.
