We are heading west from Michigan to the coast this summer and anticipate a stay in Yellowstone Nat'l Park. (32 ft. Fiver) Any suggestions as far as a good campground inside or out of the park?

There is a Great Campground outside the park, right at the West entrance, in West Yellowstone.

If you want a RV park and are willing to pay for it, Grizzly RV in West Yellowstone is very very nice.

There are several Forest Service campgrounds just outside the park. The closest is Baker's Hole, about 3 miles north of West Yellowstone. It has electric, no water or sewer hookups, and vault toilets. There is water close to the sites. We stayed there and used the dump station at Grizzly on the way out, for a small fee.

We spent a month in and around Yellowstone last season... We loved the In-Park campgrounds but you most likely will need a reservation to guarantee space. Most of these are above 7000 ft. We were there in late August, and it's not quite as busy then. Other year's we've visited in May and September - both our favorite times. The only private campground I would suggest avoiding is closer to Grand Teton's near Moran, WY....

We stay at either Fishing Bridge or Madison CGs in the park and Grizzly outside. Several CGs in the park are run by private vendors. I'd recommend making reservations early.

I agree with Grizzly at West Yellowstone, as already mentioned.

We also like Yellowstone's Edge RV Park, on Hwy 89 S., 35 miles north of the YNP if you are coming or going from that direction. As the name suggests, it is right on the Yellowstone River, has a nice central campfire every night (weather permitting), delicious locally made ice cream, and the cleanest restrooms you'll ever see in a public RV park. It is an easy, scenic drive from there along the river to the north entrance, and many people stay there and drive into the park daily - it is more convenient to stay there especially if you're touring the north side of the park (and a bit less traffic than at West Yellowstone and driving in along the Madison river).

Fishing Bridge Campground is the only campground with full hookups inside the park. The sites are very close together. We like it because we don't waste time and gas travelling to and from the park. Make reservations now and have a great trip.
