Hello,

In reading through the mods section, I noticed some folks have positioned their surge / voltage regulators next to their thermostats. I'm curious on its placement though, as I would think this should be mounted next to/close to the fuse box.

In the multiple pix I did see, there was no fuse box or panel near this regulator. In my TT, the fuse panel is located near the floor level, and being a newbie, not certain if that is a standard location for most fuse boxes.

So my questions are:
1.) is it just preference posting the regulator eye height?
2.) Or is it best installing it next to the fuse box?
3.) any tips for installing this or is it pretty straight forward?

(Progressive Industries - 30amp RV Hardwire Complete Protection $245)

Thanks, Joe

What you are seeing is the remote read-out for the EMS hardwired unit. The actual unit is somewhere by the convertor and electrical panel as you need to plumb the 30A shore cord into it, then the panel and convertor.

I agree - it is the remote display that you've been seeing. When we installed ours we put the actual unit where the 30 amp cord comes into the trailer *before the converter* and then installed the display unit inside a closet so we wouldn't have to see it blaring all the time.

Sounds like this is a required add on!! Until I read the posts on surges / drops I wondered how often that occurred. I was thinking lightning storms being a primary. But brownouts seem to be the real issue. I have to justify the ROI for everything and this one seems to be pretty easy.

Now for the newb question... As for installing it where the 30 amp cord starts on the outside of the trailer, and btw, I had only seen the trailer three times total, average visit being 1 hour. Would this area be accessable from the outside or inside of the trailer? I cannot recall seeing a panel on the outside in that area. The 30 amp cord is on the port side of the trailer and the fuse panel is located inside, but on the on the starboard side. I did look on the inside of cabinets, under the sink where the water heater and plumbing was for winterizing. That is the same cavity where the fuse panel came into, but much further away. So I'm guessing the fuse panel could be removed and the EMS could be installed and mounted in that area. But I'm guessing. I can't stand that this is in storage and I can't just walk over to it to check something out.

I will ask Prime Time Support Team on location access and see what they say. Initially when I asked them about EMS additions, they did not recommend or denounce adding such an item, so in skirting that question, for liability reasons of course; I'm not certain if they can provide a straight answer on placement or accessibility, instead they will likely refer me to the dealer. My dealer could certainly do it, but again, I like the ability of checking real world use on things, and so I look to these great forums for guidance. I have the Tracer 3150BHD, if that helps. Thanks!! Joe

The remote display should be placed where it is easily viewable and convenient to mount. Mine is in the entertainment center by the TV because it is easy to view and was extremely easy to run the cable there.
