x2 on Beavers Bend. We stayed there between Christmas and New Years and it was wonderful. Great hiking trails too.

From where to where, along what route. From most places in Texas, to central Arkansas I wouldn't route through Oklahoma. I-40 goes into NW Arkansas, and most of my best Oklahoma campgrounds are well north of that, on the way to the Kansas-Missouri corner.

My favorite in the southeastern part of the state is the COE facility called Strayhorn Landing, on the west side of Tenkiller Ferry reservoir (AKA Lake Tenkiller), not too far north of the dam, off of highway 10A. Strayhorn is a very small campground on a high bluff, overlooking the dam three miles to the south.

There are also two very nice state parks, Greenleaf Lake SP a little further north on Highway 10, and Pine Creek Cove SP at the southern end of Tenkiller Ferry Lake.

All of these facilities should be open by April.

If you are coming through Oklahoma City, the best place to stay is Twin Fountains. Great park, lots of room between sites. Near Cowboy Hall of Fame, Zoo, many other things. This is our favorite place to stay in OKC.
