I'm not sure what you call this but tour hosts is all I can think of. One of our local TV stations weathermen & his wife are the host of an upcoming fall train trip in the Canadian Rockies and I'm pretty sure for doing so they get get to go for free or at a very steep discount. The trip cost about $4,500 per person!

I like organizing stuff like this so was wondering if anyone had any experience doing so and how you go about it. I guess I could contact the travel co. they are going thru and see what they would tell me. I know I've seen info at school for teachers to "sponser/host" trips to place with students and they get to go for free.

Any suggestions and info are appreciated.

I am sure each tour outfit is different but for W.I.T. (Winnebago/Itasca travelers) before you host you have to start out as "tail-enders". The itinerary as well as arrangements, tour tickets, meals and stays are all done 'by the home office'. Tail-enders also get their trips paid for as well as the hosts. Both have to report for briefings and training as felt necessary.

I have seen these tours advertised with local TV personalities from several stations that I watch occassionally. I think those folks are not so much hosts as "names" to get regular folks to consider going on the trip. I did see some ads in one of the RV magazines for Rv tour hosts. don't remember the company, but it was in the classifieds in the back of either Motorhome or Trailer Life.

If you are not a local "celebrity" you ain't got a chance. They are just using the known name to attract folks. There is one being advertised here not about an Alaskan Cruise with a local Sportscaster known all over the region.

I know a woman who's always been an 'over the top' organizer. Her job at the local bank was eliminated and she went to work for a much larger bank 30 miles away. Pretty soon she's in charge of their bank-sponsored trips. Short trips, long trips. Perfect job for her.
