My wife and kids will probably be spending the week at the beach in a few months and we're debating these two for now. I know KOA was hammered by the hurricane, so I'm not sure if they'll be fully repaired and rebuilt by a certain date or not. I typically keep a KOA membership and in May I see they're throwing in a free night which does make them reasonable for the NC coast CG's. CH charges for more than two people, the dog, cable, etc. Any experienced opinions appreciated and we're not necessarily set on these two. We already spend one long weekend at HTP Emerald Isle. I'm guessing very few sites have any shade, so I guess that's not part of the equation.

We personally likes Camp Hatteras better due to the concrete pads, and having the option of Ocean side or Bay side sites. I know the KOA is in the process of an extreme makeover since the storm. CH also had to do repairs, including the indoor pool etc, which will re open soon. Some will mention about Ocean Waves CG right up the street as an option. We never stayed there but walked thru. They also have concrete pads and some sites with shade. Do visit the area. The OBX is beautiful and there is so much to see.

Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go CampingOur pics

We have been there twice. It's pretty remote where these two CG's are located, but very nice. Thanks!

Ocean Waves is our choice because of facilities, price and location. However, there are not a lot of things for kids. There is a nice pool and the ocean is just over the dunes, but no planned activities, playgrounds, game rooms, etc.

I would check with he KOA and Ocean Waves, I think thy were both pretty much demolished and may not be open, I know Cape Hatteras is open and it is our choice. We have stayed there 5 times.

We always stay at Camp Hatteras usually 2 times a year. Our next trip will be in April and I want to stay on the sound side cause we have never been on that side. Going to Sycamore Lodge 3/1-3/12 for 10 nites. So excited. It is one of our favorites. You should try it Mike. There are a lot of activities for the boys. Hope to see yall soon.

My vote would be Camp Hatteras. We were there July 2011.

We went to Sycamore for the "free" deal when we bought our trailer from Tom Johnson. Nice place, but not into buying into that "timeshare" kind of deal. I still need to find the info on the club ya'll belong to that gets you into CG's for $10 a night or whatever it is. Thanks again, and Grammie, hope to see you again this year!

Been to both, prefer Camp Hatteras. Sites are a little better and you've got your choice of ocean or sound side.

Camp Hatteras. They honor the KOA discount card. At least the last time we stayed there, they did.
