Sounds like you picked someone close to going out of business to sell your trailer. Since they asked you to pick up your trailer, why did you expect them to pay for the move?
Why did you not move it home? I, like many pay money ($96.00 in my case) to have my RV stored since I can not keep it at home.
I can't see how you expect them to pay for your personally caused problem.

My question is why didn't you walk the field and refuse to drive into the wet field? Whenever I tell a large truck driver where to pick up my hay and that the area is OK to drive on, they still walk the area first.

Favor?
Unless I read the convoluted OP wrong, this is a dispute between a contractor and the business they contracted with. The driver was hired to provide a service as an independent contractor. In the course of providing that service they got stuck in a field. Getting stuck was the fault of the driver, not the company. If indeed the company did pay for the tow it would come out of the driver's earnings. The company may choose to compensate the driver but isn't obligated.
Unfortunate incident but I don't think bashing the company is called for.

hmmmmm...lets see....the field was 71 miles away so the OP could not know if the field was wet, so he asked and was told it was dry! The tow truck was called and cancelled so no cost there!...what am I missing?

You are the captain of your ship, in this case a P.U. truck. You mistakenly made a decision to enter a wet field. They had to pay for the tow truck whether you used it or not. If you can wrap your mind around this. You were both losers.

First you say you were contracted. Then you say you were doing them a favor. So is it true you contracted with them at 1.00 per mile as your post says. If so then you had an obligation to drive it to the field, get out and check the field and if it is too wet then call the company and ask them where they want you to put the unit. By taking matters into your own hands you also accept the risk and responsibility to do the job or to contact the company with the reason you cannot complete it.
This company maybe everything you claim but this post really says you need to rethink the blame here and accept your own mis judgement.

This is very simple: the dealer LIED. He said the field was dry. It was not. He lied.

If in question always check the field once you arrive. If you dont you have no one to blame but yourself.
Most commercial tow truck firms charge mileage and time whether there hooked up or not. Someone still needs to pay the tow company for there used time and fuel ASSUMING the truck was enroute when the call was canceled.
