The GEO method may be effective for all I know but I haven't had any trouble with sewage tank residue and I have never used water softener. My problem with tank level sensors is unrelated to whether the tank is clean or smells bad. The level sensor on my tank is flaky and exhibits such little accuracy that it is no better than just guessing. The indicator is calibrated in thirds. However, I have determined experimentally that the tank can be less than 1/2 full or 4/5 full and it will read 2/3 either way. It shows 1/3 full after about a gallon has been flushed. Pouring Calgon or bags of ice down the hole will not improve that situation.

Yes your absolutely right! Yes I agree, these were bad suggestions in your case. I feel terrible now! I wish I could take back my post, I so wanted it to address "Every Single" situation that might possible present itself....

Didn't know thread was about your tank problem.....thought it was about OP's sensors fowling and suggestions were given....ice cubes, geo method, tank rinser, septic treatment, dip stick and my personal favorite.....ignore the pieces of junk and wait for the 'burp'.

good info. Thanks to all who responded. I will be using the geo method in the future as we are preparing for our spring trip to the midwest.
Thanks again.

I've had three units. None of them were accurate. I tried all the magic tricks. My black tank is 50 gallons. That is a lot of "stuff." The two of us can go at least a week with no problems. Just set up a schedule for dumping and stick with it.

If it's really important to you, scrap the junk that came with the camper. I did. I bought See Level. They use a self stick electronic on the tank. One for each tank. You do not have to rewire. Just use the old wires. I believe it to be accurate within a couple gallons. Cost around $240 maybe less. No worries anymore.I have 4 tanks plus battery.

X2 on the SeeLevel II level monitor system. Besides the external sensors that are relatively immune to tank fouling, the level readings are in percentages, making them much more accurate than the "Empty, 1/3, 2/3, Full" systems.

I only worry about the FULL indicator. As long as that works I am fine. I just don't need to know anything at 22%, 47% or 71%. I can about guess the progress. Usually the grey fills first anyway so I drag it over and dump all three tanks.

If you will look at the original post, you will see that the gentleman had already tried ice cubes and Calgon. Why suggest something he has already tried and it apparently didn't work? My post was to inform the person that tank level sensors are not always bad because they have residue on them. Some tank sensors are just so poorly designed that they will never give good results no matter what you put in them.
