I am thinking of adding a satellite system to our motorcoach after expieriencing 24 days in key west with no TV. Travelers dish roof mounted by camping world is where i am leaning. I would like some input, recommendations etc if anyone would like to contribute to this. Thanks

For a MH you might be better off getting one of the inmotion dishes. Problem is they are not HD compatible. At least with DirecTV they are not. No matter what roof dish you install you will also want to carry a portable dish for those times when you are in the trees and unable to get reception. We installed a wineguard automatic dish on our trailer, and it works very work, as long as I have a clear view of the sky.

We have the dome atop our RV but we never use the in-motion feature. If you want more than one TV, make sure the dome has dual LNB's and that they wire your RV for them. We like DirecTV. We have a TracStar. We met Al Maturen from Cobham SATCOM at the Brooksville FL rally. He is in Orlando, FL. www.cobham.com/tracstar
He referred us to another sat guy in Houston to have an add'l TV wired.

I will never again own an RV with a fixed mount rooftop dome. For us, there are just too many places where we could not get reception due to trees or other obstructions.

We switched to a carry-out type (VuCube in our case) and have not regretted the decision for a minute! Setup takes 15min. It switches automatically between satellites. Received DISH HD and with a 50ft cable, we have always been able to get reception.

We have had a Trav'ler SK3005 (DirecTV) for almost 4 years. I replaced an operating, in-motion dome so we could get HD. I wouldn't go any other way. We've got almost 65k miles on the bus, and have used the Trav'ler from Key West to Alaska. It tunes quick, never had a problem with it and is very quick. Push one button and you're tuned in about 3-4 minutes. Prices are down since I bought it. I did the install myself without incident.

We've had a Winegard Trav'ler for two years. Seven to eight months a year on the road and we have only run into 2 or 3 places where trees caused a problem.

Love the Trav'ler, push a button and walk away, come back 15 minutes later and it is locked on all three Dish Network sats. Works with our DVR, we can record two channels and watch a recorded show or record one channel and watch another.

X2!! We have a roof mount that was on the coach when we bought it. Works great, until you park under a tree. We frequent a lot of state parks, who would of thought they would have so many trees. After having to sit for 3 days inside because of rain, we went and bought a WineGard carry out portable dish. Couldn't get anything on over the air antennae. I have used the carry out more than the roof mount in the last 3 years. And Key West was one place we had to use it as well.

I can't answer your question, but no TV in KW because you can't pick up a digital signal there with a batwing antenna?

Thanks

We updated from a dome to the Traveler roof mount a couple a years ago for HD. One of the best upgrades we have done, it works flawlessly. Before setting up in a campsite I check Sat finder on my smartphone to see if we have a clear shot. If not move forward or backwards until we do, or change campsites. At a couple of state parks there were too many tree, but there was enough channels on the bat wing that we didn't mind. The speed of locking on the Sats with the traveler is 3 times faster than my old dome.

I just replaced my King Dome with a Wineguard Mini Max. It is the same model that can be used as a carry out. It is not an in motion model, and I don't think I would ever use that feature. It is also not HD. However, it is so easy to use and is is not prone to rain fade. I like the Wineguard Traveler dish, but it costs quite a bit more money. Both Wineguard's dishes are great. You simply need to figure out how much $$ you want to spend.
