Good Sam is proudly touting the new savings benefit by partnering w/Pilot/Flying J. The truth is that Flying J has offered a fuel discount through their "RV Plus Card" for years, discounting $.02/gallon gas and $.03/gallon deisel, with no connection to Good Sam. Now Good Sam has partnered with them to unveil "BIG Savings" (cover story on this month's Highways mag). The "big savings" amount to $.03/gallon gas and $.05/gallon deisel. That's just a penny per gallon different (on gas) than what Flying J was already offering.
Not to look a gift horse in the mouth, but seriously? The average RV'r probably travels no more than 5000 miles annually, so at 8mpg, we're talking about 5 bucks in savings over an entire year. I suppose every penny counts, but big savings - hardly.
The other discounts outlined in the new partnership were already offered previously to Flying J RV Plus cardholders including 1/2 off dumping fees and a discount on propane purchases.
Seems to be much ado about nothing.

This thing has been hashed over many times. However, as previously stated, those of us who are lifetime members do receive .06 and .08/gal. And as many of us know, there are numerous RVers that drive well over 5000 mi/yr. If people are not happy with GS, they should quit. But for some of us, we are totally happy.JMO Macktee

A lot of new benefits have come out in the last year and the new CEO has listen to the members. We've had the Good Sam ERS for 10 year with great service and VIP insurance threw GMAC has been great on claims and cost. The discounts available to members now with the merger of the President Club and Good Sam at Camping World was one of the best things in years. I fine the discount on fuel to be very reasonable since most service stations charge more for fuel when you use a credit card including there own comcvany cards.
I have found that those that complain about any club benifits would still complain if they got everything for free. We have been involved in Good Sam for over 20 years not only in our state but also going to other states and Rallies. It's more than paid for our memberships.

I agree. If you don't like GoodSam or any of its affiliates, don't join. The constant complaining about GS gets really old. I have been a member since 1990 and have had the ERS for over 10 years and I have had none of the issues that some of these people continually post about. I get it; you don't like GoodSam. But quit subjecting the rest of to your constant negativity and complaining. OK, now I'll sit back and wait for the flaming to start.

My complaint about this feature is that it discriminates against those of us who prefer to use cash...

I don't know about other locations, but the 2 FJ's near me are 4 to 10 cents a gallon more for diesel than most any other place in the county. I do have there RV card but got it before Pilot took over and jacked the price up. I don't use it anymore.

Good comments, folks. Let me remind everyone - this is a forum for opinions and information exchange. When opinions are offered, please don't slam them just because they differ from yours. One poster referred to the "constant complaining about GS". Let me point to the obvious - if topics keep recurring in these forums, then I would submit that perhaps there is indeed an issue and it would behoove GS to take note of it.
And please, the notion that "if you don't like it, then quit" is getting old. Noone is submitting that there is no value in GS membership. But just because some of us take issue with "club benefits" that really aren't, doesn't mean we are dissing the whole program. Lighten up folks.
This forum and others like provide a great resource for making informed decisions. In order for it to be effective, all viewpoints have merit.

I guess I must be alone in this. I am not a member of Good Sam because of any discounts, or even the Highways magazine. I am a member of Good Sam because of the Standby Sams (which I believe is where the origins of the Good Sam Club comes from), and to support the Action Line consumer advocacy and Good Sam’s Parking Rights Council. (I have also used the Trip Routing service as well.) I believe these two advocacy groups are well worth supporting, especially in a day and age where governments tend to want to regulate too much (in my opinion), and RV manufacturing quality appears to be struggling (at least from what I've been reading in the posts on the Forum). And, of course, I get a LOT out of this Forum, which is part of the Good Sam/Affinity family. While I have not had any personal issues with government regulations concerning my RV, or manufacturer quality issues (after all, my fiver is ancient), I do enjoy the political and consumer clout "Good Sam" gives to RVers. For me, that's worth the membership fee. All the rest is just icing on the cake.
With that said, there is always room for improvement. To Good Sam's credit, I do think the amount of junk mail has been reduced (and it was a bit annoying), and the number of membership "renewal" requests (even though your membership could be 9 months or more from expiration) have been reduced (and I did find those VERY annoying). I do agree with the OP in that I think the currently advertised "UNBELIEVABLE SAVINGS!" is -shall we say- slightly overstated.
So, I guess when it comes time to renew my Good Sam membership, I'll renew.
