My eyes have never been great, but as I age they are backsliding from good. Is there a monitor similar to a portable DVD player that can hook to a smart phone to give me a bigger sreen? I love this phone and leave my laptop at home a lot now when we travel, but a bigger viewing area would be great. TIA for any input.

It depends on your phone. Some models have a mini HDMI port on them, others don't. Even if it does, it may not mirror the screen in real-time - some models only support video out so while you might be able to watch YouTube via the phone, it wouldn't output other apps. I suggest checking the site of your phone manufacturer for further details.

What model phone do you have? Not all smartphones are created equal. Some can connect to a wide screen TV others can't. Some have docking stations they can connect to, others don't. Tell us your model and I am sure the answers will appear.

The phone in question is a Motorola Droid 2. The only connector is a mini USB port. Thanks for your input. I am trying to avoid lugging a full size laptop around.

Can you tether the phone to your computer? Or are you simply talking about phone functions?

I just did a search for a lapdock for your phone and it looks like the Droid 2 might be a little outdated for that. Those are the closest to what you were looking for in something in a portable DVD player type screen. The newer phones will plug into anything that has an HDMI port, but the older phone are limited with the mini USB only port.

Thanks all, looks like an upgrade is the only way.
